There were women with me who were up and walking pain free within hours. They went home the next day. I and one other lady stayed in for. 4 days. My pain was so extreme that I fainted 4 times while trying to walk. This man is the top of the exceptions. Everyone recovers at their own pace. Don’t judge yourself on the recovery of others.

I needed a walker the first day. And I clearly remember day 12, it was my daughter's wedding day. I was actually walking and doing stairs very well WITH MY CANE, I could barely take a step without it. Saw my surgeon a week later, he told me I was doing better than most.

I had a total left hip replacement 2 years ago and I was not up prancing down the hall like the guy in the video! I was in a lot of pain, my legs were swollen, I was loopy from pain meds, so this video is not what the majority go through. I went home and didn’t know what day it was from the drugs, got cellulitis in my right leg needing more medication on top of what I was already taking. It was not a blissful time.

Which form of the surgery did you have - anterior, posterior or the procedure (can't remember the name momentarily - where they keep the ball intact/shaving?) Thanks! Hope you're doing well. And how old are you, if you don't mind? I'm 72 and need my right hip done.

I'm 72 and having my right hip replaced this Thursday. It will be an anterior approach, however, a bit of an obstacle in the way. I had a spinal cord stimulator put in in 2018 so he's going to have to work around that. I pray that doesn't change the approach. I understand that the anterior approach heals much more quickly.
@obsidianbutterfly6003
@obsidianbutterfly6003 3 месяца назад
@vickykent353 it doesn't heal quicker, you just don't have the same 90° bend restrictions. The other thing I've learned being in a few groups is that a lot of anterior approaches have more fractures & a continuous numbness down the front of the leg. Do a little research & chat with ppl that have had it done.

No way, I've had both hips replaced, the second took two ops because it dislocated. In the UK you're not allowed out of bed until the following day. No way could you walk unaided in so little a time and no way could you twist in a turn around like that, your tissue has to heal and grow around your new hip or you risk displacement. Having said this for anyone thinking of hip replacement.... do I think it was worth it.... absolutely I have regained mobility in my hips without the use of walking aids 👍

UNBELIEVABLE is right. I am 17 days out of total hip replacement surgery. It is possible that I could walk these few steps unassisted for a video, but I find it very irresponsible to lead people to think walking is as easy as rhis looks so soon after a total hip replacement. Also, my mobility highly depends on how much pain medicine I take, which could lead to overuse too soon and new problems.

This is misleading and untrue unless this guy wears the same clothes to the surgery and then to the doctor’s office 12 days later? What is the likelihood of that? Regardless, I highly doubt that the first clip is really 4 hours post-surgery as no responsible hospital would let you walk without a walker that soon - a fall could do a lot of damage and completely ruin your joint. Most people (myself included) would likely still be in bed in a hospital gown waiting for the spinal to fully wear off so they could actually feel and move their legs completely. I had anterior total left hip on 4/24 and was up and walking with a walker and doing up and down 4 stairs with a cane about 5 hours later (had to do to be able to be released that day) but there was no way I was able to walk like he is supposedly doing at 4 hours (he looks the same as 12 days, btw). I also had tons of swelling in the leg after about 3 days that made it hard to comfortably walk unless using the walker or cane - that swelling took over a week to subside I’m now 3.5 weeks out and can walk unassisted like shown here - have been since about 20 days out. So… don’t despair as most folks will be up and moving well by 3-4 weeks after surgery - but you almost definitely won’t be able to walk like this at 4 hours after surgery. In fact, it could be dangerous to try to do so. My surgeon stressed no walking without the walker for first 1-2 weeks and then I could switch to the cane in week 3 and unassisted in week 4 as tolerated. His advice was not to rush things and risk injury - his slogan was “this is a surgery for lazy people” and, beyond increasing walking distances each week, the focus should be on healing in the first month. There is plenty of time for PT and strength training after that!

This is misleading video. I had 2 times of hip replacement surgery. Not after 4 hours or 12 day walking is like this. They are kidding with us

I just had my hip replaced on Thursday. It’s Sunday I feel great off all pain medication and I’m walking. The only thing is I have formed a bad habit, so I have to be really conscious of not continuing my weird walk! I didn’t get any instructions on PT. The only thing my surgeon said was to walk every hour for about 10 minutes for the first two weeks.
