There were 15 republics of the Soviet Union when it collapsed in 1991. Let's see how some of them are doing today! Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Georgia! Economy, democracy and tourism!
Kazakstan and Azerbaijan are the winners.😊 It is quite amazing that these countries despite being muslim majority has freedom of religion and is secular in their politics despite being authoritarian governments.
Who told you that democracy leads to prosperity? These countries refute this nonsense! Just like democratic Colombia and dozens of its countries confirm that democracy today is the support of the West to maintain its hegemony! The “struggle for democracy” has long become a weapon against independent states: Ukraine is a shining example!
@@user-vm3tg4gu9d lol most prosperous countries are democratic. I am not arguing for democracy, I just said that authoritarian governments can work just as long they are chill about it.
@@user-vm3tg4gu9dsimple statistics prove that democratic countries provide better lives for their citizens --- higher incomes, better standards of living, more employment and enterprise opportunities, more educational opportunities, longer lifespans and better medical outcomes.
I'm an American that lived in Kazakhstan for a year. More civil, safe, and moderate than anything I've ever experienced in the states. Most people drink in moderation and I saw less hijabs than I did in my neck of the woods in Ohio. One would assume that it's not a very religious country, but on the contrary, it is far more religious than America. They just practice Islam a bit differently. One of the most mind bending experiences was landing in their Caspian seaport of Aktau. Everyone was dressed like 1930s depression era Kansas. Women in dresses similar to what my great grandmother wore and men unironically sporting peaky blinders hats. More pickup trucks than the other cities in the country. But lots of camels and Persian rugs. I absolutely love the country with all my heart and If I could eventually work remotely for an American firm, I would move back in a heartbeat!
Most likely, Aktau is a provincial city. You should have visited Astana and Almaty. The scene there is completely different. People are very progressive, stylish, and educated. There is no religious influence, and the reason they practice Islam "differently" is because, for them, religion is like Christianity for an American - just a matter of respect for history. Kazakhstan has always been an atheistic country, and only in the last 5 years have discussions about religion begun, somehow integrating it into daily life. But I agree that in provincial cities, the situation is different
As an Indian I would say Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are my favourite. Hopefully I will be able to visit next year and see the beauty and taste the delicious looking food there.
Even though I'm French, my opinion was the same as you, and likely still is. I highly advise Samarkand in Uzbekistan if you're into history. If you like futuristic cities, Astana in Kazakhstan is THE place to go! Tashkent in Uzbekistan is interesting capital, it's busy but safe, and its metro should really be visited. Almaty in Kazakhstan also has a nice metro and amazing mountains.
I guess each country has its own strength and weakness but potentially Kazakhstan is with the brightest future because it is huge and with a lot of resources. The problem with Kazakhstan is that its economy and internal politics are driven by corruptive interests. If they fight corruption successfully, they can build very attractive country. If not, they will lose.
Коррупция есть во всем мире, даже в США и Китае. Просто в некоторых странах предпочитают об этом не говорить и молчать как например в о колоссальной коррупции в России, Узбекистане или в Туркменистане.
Thanks. But corruption is awful in Kazakhstan . Kazakhs wanted to change the situation in January but Putin didn't let do that. 🤦🏽♀️ Russian dictator saved our dictator.
I've visited Baku, Azerbaijan and the city centre may look like Paris but I think it's better! It's cleaner, less crowded, and the people are more relaxed and friendly. I'm going to Georgia later this year and this has helped me to frame the visit, get a sense of the country's history, and has given me ideas on what to check out.

You always produce great content Slava. I really enjoy watching them. My number one choice of a place to visit would be Kazakhstan. I just find it to be such an interesting country where literally, east meets west. Plus, I would love to witness a rocket launch at Baikinour,
World scientists have recognized that the world's first horses, tulip plant and apple tree appeared in Kazakhstan. People of the world call the name of the first human being Adam. Kazakhs have long called the human race Adam, and still do. Russians call a person a Chelovek, and the English call a Man. Only Kazakhs say Adam. This leads me to believe that the first man in the world appeared in Kazakhstan. It is also convenient for the spread of people from the territory of Kazakhstan to Africa, Asia and Europe. He is in the center. You can also see the Nuhbing ship in the Turkestan region of southern Kazakhstan. Not very big, 30 meters. but God is able to put the genes of all creatures into this vessel. This ship is stuck on a hill. There was no sea here even during the Arab invasion in the 7th century. Local residents say that there are places like Noah's shrine in these areas. I am convinced that this is Noah's ark, hidden from the world.
All these countries are great, they potential to grow is huge. It depends only on how these countries will use their institutional, cultural and human resources for the development of civil society, democracy, progressive knowledge and technology. From my point of view, Kazakhstan has achieved much more in terms of economic and civic fundamentals to become a well-developed country. The Kazakh people, I used to work with, had very good western style education, work skills and progressive mindset. Almaty is the best city in the region and has all you need what many western mega cities offer, like good restaurants, cafeterias, retail shops, wellness and gym clubs. The only complaint is the airport and public transports, taxies. The overall experience was excellent and we will definitely consider doing business in this beautiful country. With love from Singapore
I would like to visit the Silk Road cities of Bukhara, Khiva, Samarkhand and Tashkent. I have read so much about those cities. They were parts of various empires. I am particularly interested in seeing the Gur i Amir where Tamerlane and his grandson Ulugh Beg ars buried.
YESS, I highly recommend you to visit Uzbekistan in spring! April is the best option. You are always welcome! As an Uzbek girl, I'm always excited to visit Samarkand even if I were there for hundred times, every time it feels different. You must visit these cities, especially if you're interested in history!
I am from Norway but have visited all of these countries. I would say the most safe, secure and rich ones are Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Least favorite is Georgia and Tajikistan.
Azerbaijan’s and Georgia’s GDP per capita almost same. Big applause to our neighbour Georgians for their effords to have this figures where they do not have any oil and gas. Both countries are great locations to visit.

Yeah, Uzbekistan is not as modern as 🇦🇿, 🇰🇿 or 🇬🇪 , but without any doubt Registan is the most precious gem along the Great Silk Road, located in the very heart of the ancient city of Samarkand. Restored thanks to meticulous work of work of hundreds of restorers, this sight can claim - in my opinion - to be in the top ten list of the wonders of the world. Or Shah-i-zinda . Meaning of Shah-I-Zinda is Tomb of the Living King, and the structures with amazing colourful domes, intricate windows, finest glazed tilework, is a must see for any traveller visiting Samarkhand. Most sacred Tomb is that of Qusum ibn Abbas, a cousin of Prophet Mohammad, who brought Islam to Central Asia during 7th century. And I'm talking about just one city, about Samarkand. You are all welcome to Uzbekistan at any time, but for best experience, its advisable to visit in Spring! I feel really grateful for it's peace and quite, and for growing up here without knowing what War looks like. Come, visit, and see all the historical, nature, cousine beauty with your own eyes.
As a native from Uzbekistan🇺🇿 I think religion Islam ☪️ has contributed the most on safety and low rate of homicide. Living here is cheap and for the last 5 years we have witnessed a great deal of development in terms of economic and social life. Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 is also a good destination for travellers as well, and I would like to visit Astana in the near future😊
@moonrabbit5107Don’t go to Kazakhstan, the mentality of the Kazakhs is completely different, they are rude, there is no politeness and respect, they are also nationalists, they hate Uzbeks.
in England people say that Kazakhstan is a European country and is closer to European cultures and religions and mentality and cities that are similar to Eastern Europe, so as an Englishwoman I say Kazakhstan is a developed cultural economic and closer to the Western world and countries such as Georgia Moldova Ukraine Estonia Latvia Lithuania🇬🇧🤗🇰🇿
You are so right! A bit annoying when we are thrown together with other Central Asian countries in one bucket or referred to as "one of thr stans", I mean technically we are😅, but I don't really feel related to them
@@assfghjkl Imagine being like you and ashamed of your origin as if “being other stan” is something horrible. What makes Kazakhstan different from other Central Asian countries? If not for oil and gas, we would not be far from any of them economically. Even with “richer and more prosperous” economy, you don’t get to see high quality of life in Kazakhstan. You really must be fun when you talk to foreigners trying hard to prove how we are soooo different from other “stans”. Grow up!
Great summary! I didn’t expect a scientific approach to comparing counties! Agree with all points with regard to Kazakhstan’s issues. Thanks for the video and a non-biased opinion :)
Greetings from Kazakhstan, thank you for the video. Every aspect you mentioned was correct, which is impressive to hear from non-native. I personally would like to visit Georgia one day, those villages are marvellous
Cheers to free, democratic, independent states in Caucasus and Central Asia. We are more than just post Soviet Union countries. All of these countries have centuries of history and unique culture. As a young Georgian, I can say that our choice is clear and loud. We choose freedom, equality and democracy. Never back to USSR and never with Russia. Thanks for your good work.
I love my Uzbekistan and InshaAllah it will has bright future And I respect all of these countries, because they are our neighbours and relations Salam from Uzbekistan for everybody

I paid attention to the comments. Azerbaijan is the least known of these countries. But the most beautiful among these 4 countries is Azerbaijan. Since it is an oil country, they do not care about tourism. This country has excellent tourism potential. Nature, people, food...
Greetings from Kazakhstan! All Central Asian and Caucasian countries are worth visiting. These countries are not about hotels, beaches and luxuripus lifestyle (although they have) but about local cuisine, unique music and culture, theatres and arts, nature and tracking. Almost all of them have good interconnectivity and visa free for EU, North America and East Asian countries. I travel almost weekly between Astana-Almaty-Tashkent-Baku-Bishkek-Dushanbe, having morning Azeri Chai with baklava, noon Uzbek Palau and evening Beshbarmak in Bishkek or Almaty.
I think Kazakhstan is greater than others. But Uzbekistan also seems interesting for travel. I hope all of them will be managed democratically one day.
Love the video and the comparison. I wish you added Armenia to it, though, as it's a beautiful country in the caucasus region, and it deserves to be there in the comparison list. I visited all these countries multiple times ( the only exception is Azerbaijan, I visited it just once). They're all beautiful and hidden beautiful gems, and they are truly worth visiting. Personally, it's so hard to say which one I prefer, but I found the architecture in some Uzbek cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva incredible and breathtaking. The food there in Uzbekistan is also great and the people (especially in smaller cities) are incredibly kind and hospitable. Kazakhstan is relatively modern and developed, and living standards there are quite good compared to its Central Asian neighbours. In fact, I felt that I'm somewhere in Eastern Europe when I visited Kazakhstan. People are also nice and friendly and the food is good but not as good as in Uzbekistan. Nature is great there, but the history and architecture aren't as superior as in Uzbekistan. Georgia is lovely! The food, the people, the cosy streets of Tbilisi and of course, the nearby mountains and nature make the country a perfect holiday destination. There's some political unrest there though because of its political position between the West and Russia. I guess a good solution for a country in this situation would be neutrality and establishing balanced relations with Russia and the West. Azerbaijan is beautiful and it's capital Baku is very modern, clean, and organized but I probably need to visit it again before I have a comprehensive opinion about it. It's very hard to say which one of them I prefer but if I want to compare them in terms of historical beauty then Uzbekistan would be on top, in terms of nature, Georgia would be on top, in terms of food, Georgia would also top the list, and in terms of peace of mind, safety, and easy living, maybe Kazakhstan would be number one. In summary, they're all beautiful but not only these 4 countries are beautiful but also the rest of the former USSR countries. Luckily, I visited 14 of them and loved them all! Thanks for the nice video, Slava!
I forgot to mention that Uzbekistan is developing fast. I visited it this summer for the 2nd time (my first visit was last year) and I noticed that Tashkent improved and developed a lot. The country had many reforms as well, so it is progressing, which is great news. I also forgot to mention that if I had the chance to choose one of these countries to live for about a year or so, I would probably choose Georgia. Mainly because of its proximity to Europe and the Middle East and also because of their relaxed visa conditions and the overall financial and personal freedom there.
@RussianPlus haha you're absolutely right. I hope to be able to visit it next year. When I finish, I will be one of the very few people who had the opportunity to visit all the 15 former Soviet Union republics 😄
Wow, I was only able to visit Russia, Georgia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Though I am from Kazakhstan

I am not sure, why you did not mention that 20% of Azerbaijan was also occupied for 30 years, and still some part s not under control of Azerbaijan. But you mentioned it about Georgia. Maybe a bit biased?
@@RussianPlusI would add another remark. With my all respect to Georgia, which is the fascinating country, Azerbaijan has more to offer in terms of mountain tourism. Azerbaijan got both Grand and Minor Caucasus mountains, Talysh mountains and numerous mountain chains in the Nakhchievan Autonomous Republic
I agree, author should've either mentioned both or left both out. But in the case of Georgia it at least shows the reason for bad relations with Russia. What would it show in case of Azerbaijan? The interim result of a pointless hate that didn't affect the economy much?

Georgia for visiting, been there short time (24 hrs) between two flights already, but it seems too much pro-West to me, if you say 75% are pro-EU...unfortunate because I really like Georgian food and drinks. I moved to Georgia 10 years ago from the US and would never consider moving back, or anywhere else for that matter. The details here on Georgia are accurate other than about the political situation. There are no pro-Russian parties in government or people, that's an unfair criticism from pro-Western camps about people who want to pursue a balanced political and economic strategy. The fact that 20% of the country is occupied by Russia and was attacked multiple times in 30 years proves that nobody can be pro Russian in any sense here. Totally true about safety and the almost complete lack of corruption. That being said, I agree that Kazakhstan has huge economic potential but Georgia is at the crosswords of the world, with Asia to the east and Europe to the west. Simple geography and global sea access gives huge potential especially with an incomparably rich, proud, and self-aware culture and society.
