Competition ratios for all specialties this year were astonishing. Hang in there Ollie. Wishing you the best.

It's been fascinating joining you through this journey Ollie. I hope things go well with whatever life has in store - but I certainly hope it is an NTN in what you like!

I see your videos on my feed occasionally, so I don’t know if you’ve mentioned this in the past: the MSRA is normalised such that 500 is the mean annually, and 40 is always (?always) the standard deviation. Radiology having a cutoff above 540, wanted people in the top ~16% of MSRA takers, which is tough. A few years ago both were taking people with scores below 520.

What a frustrating and stressful journey. The artificial bottlenecks and prospect of constant relocation are so disruptive to personal life. Thanks for sharing the reality of it, Ollie. Best of luck.

Could you make a video about the new UKFPO allocation results?! I’ve seen so many people so upset about it and wondering how likely it is they’ll come up with a new system

Damn such a difficult situation, be careful about your mental health . Very important . I’m sure Dr K would make a great conversational video about this topic

Hi Ollie, I have been following you since nearly the beginning of your journey. Although I live in a different country, I'd like to let you know that I am also in a similar situation with lots of interviews and uncertainties, just like many other junior doctors. I just wanted to say that you are not alone in these challenging times and with your passion and hardworking, I am sure you will get your dream job!

I find it extraordinary that even a candidate as impressive as you struggles to get to the next stage. I hope you had good news, but on behalf of other people in the medicine jungle, it would be fabulous if somebody with your integrity was influencing the leadership.

It seems odd that they're so strict on limiting your time working in neurology. I can appreciate it might give a more even distribution of exerpiences to drs but surely they could allow you to work in a speciality you love and only take into consideration the first year or 1 year of that experience when looking at your interview etc.

Currently finishing FY2 and finding myself at a similar situation to you. Have you considered the SAS route, aiming for CESR? Is this something that happens in neurosx, given its very high competition?
@OllieBurtonMed
@OllieBurtonMed 5 месяцев назад
It does happen, it can just be very unstable - and lots of competition for training between NTNs and CESR pathway surgeons. At the moment my preference would still be an NTN due to the increased stability.
