The Studio hit a bulleye with this one. Once again Gandy and Sourpuss's shared dream space takes them to a 'land', in this case 'land of the future', where they have their outlandish adventures, or maybe just cartoonish adventures. G and S have a pretty interesting relationship for a cartoon, with lots of quirks and that is, even Sourpuss, in the end, very good natured. The look on S's face at about 3:12 when he was in that pie was worth the price of admisision. Perhaps 1:41 was a little hommage to Warner Bros, who, if memory serves (it often does not) used to do these gadgetized future cartoons. For a moment, I was a bit surprised at the TV, in color no less, but I guess since the 1939 World's Fair and proto broadcasting in New York City, near the Terrytoon studio, the animators would be fairly familiar with it, including commercials, but it would still be a wonder to G and S. Iimagine if TVt could send floating images all through the house! (Coming soon no doubt). Anyway an irruption of rhino like robocritters (firebreathing too) from the innards of the tv after its screen is breached and things get wonderfully wild and wooly from there til the bang up conclusion. Great stuff.
Some people were already looking forward to the end of World War II......and thinking about how WONDERFUL the future was going to be- ushering in a new era of prosperity and gadgets. Paul Terry's staff decided to see how Gandy and Sourpuss would react to several of these new "wonders".....including, at 4:05, COLOR TELEVISION. Great score by Philip A. Scheib!

Paul Terry was the only animation pioneer to come from San Mateo, California (the same city that gave us Merv Griffin, Tom Brady, Lina Basquette, Diane Varsi and Katherine Ellison).
