what a wonderful and thought-provoking discussion. I am studying English literature and your lectures are helping me throughout the course. wonderful sir
I randomly came across your youtube video on the idea of marginalisation and marginality. Just watched it and found it extremely helpful. I am a Master’s level student of psychology and they seemed to make alot of sense! So thank you sir. Starting this one now.. :)
Thought provoking, thank you. The term “slave owner” was prestigious in American history- ignorant of the evil core of slavery. Binary thinking enables allows us to justify and normalize horrible behavior. Distilling it out of the way we perceive others could help us see our actions more clearly.
Sir, I have been doing an assignment. I am analyzing two post colonists poets poems with the perspective of binary opposition/binarism? Should I analyze it with this concept? My argument is the oppressor/ oppressed that if colonized got oppressed by colonizer than in Wole Soyinka soldier and civilian after decolonization people got oppressed by their own government and people? So the violence and oppression are still followed after decolonization? can you please comment on this?
Sir could you please share your own experience of facing such binaries while living in that society. Do they still put the East on the right side of binary system? If you haven't been prey of this binarism what is the reason behind it?
Such thought processes exist everywhere, partially because language and cultures do rely on binary structures. I have not had many such experiences, but maybe it is because I work at a university.
