Head Coach Dawn Staley, Senior Forward Aliyah Boston and RS Freshman Guard Raven Johnson met with members of the media following Friday Night's 73-77 loss to Iowa in the semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament
I am a huge Iowa and Caitlyn Clark fan and as a rule I do not care for the SEC all that much. That said, I am really shocked South Carolina lost tonight, I thought they would win by 25. From the standpoint of being a WBB basketball fan, South Carolina, Coach Staley, Aliyah and her teammates are the real deal. It was a great game and a game that we should all feel thankful for the fact teams and players like those on both Iowa and South Carolina are the face of the sport. That face is beautiful. Coach Staley and Coach Bluder great job. Winning basketball games is great, teaching young women to win at life is so much bigger and all these young ladies speak volumes for the great job you are doing and you have always done. Thank you 😊, the sport is great, and you are all the face of sheer joy and the image of true sportsmanship that makes it that way. Winning is a tough thing to do, being humble and keeping defeat wholly in perspective is an even higher bar. For everything else there is South Carolina and Iowa and the fine young woman who represent for these 2 great programs.
@Jim Dombrowski me being a South Carolina fan it was tough to see them lose but it was a great game Iowa had a smart game plan set for South Carolina and it worked to beat them. They couldn't make the shots when they needed to huge shot out to Caitlyn Clark and her teammates

As someone from Iowa, I felt that this team played with class while playing a hard game. Aliyah is incredible as a player and a speaker. Whoever gets her in the WNBA is going to be a very lucky team. South Carolina as a team was great to play against, and it's too bad that one team had to lose. I wish nothing but great things for these ladies in the future.
I have been a Lady Vol fan since I was 9 years old, I have loved everything Pat Summitt, and for my dollar, until Dawn Staley - there has been no one that honors WBB better, that has taken what Pat started and IMPROVED and ELEVATED WBB like Dawn. Caitlin Clark does more for WBB because she’s such an exciting player to watch. The NBA was just getting by until two exciting players entered the league, Magic and Bird. They garnered interest for the league, and then came Jordan, the most unpredictable and exciting player ever. That’s what made the NBA big, and will also make the WNBA big, exciting to watch players. It’s far more them fun-to-watch players, than the coaches.

Class is when you acknowledge what a great player is instead of making excuses that they lost cause it was too physical. This is the only team including their coach that hardly gives credit to some one great like Caitlin Clarke. Listen to other teams that lose: Tennessee, UConn players and coaches always give kudos to the players and coaches! Very little by South Carolina!!!

Aliyah displays so much class and character, in my eyes she raises her future value more in this loss, nowadays character and integrity counts. These women exhibited nothing but class in a postgame interview that had to be very tough for them. Still a great season and as Dawn Staley said it’s tough to lose a game like that, but it’s all about building strong young women who will ultimately be successful in whatever comes next for them. There are no “losers” here.

The season didn't end the way the team and fams all had hoped, but we are just soooo proud of all you. As in life, you won't win all the time. But a loss does not define you. Congratulations to Iowa! South Carolina will always be Champions and Dawn Staley has established a program that will continue to be at or near the top. Dawn Staley is a class act and so are her players. South Carolina has some of the most passionate, dedicated WBB fans in the country and that's awesome for the sport. But what a game! What a player in Caitlin Clark! And go LSU!!
This Gamecocks team and program will be remembered forever. The players and coach exude discipline and class....of course they are disappointed, but in years to come, they will realize how important they are to the game......I feel lucky enough to have witnessed history being made.

I have become a fan of hers by watching the tournament. To take questions like these after a 36-0 record before the loss, wow. Classy lady. I’ll be watching both Iowa and SC a lot more next year. Amazing game. Amazing inspiring ladies elevating the sport. Way to go Dawn and SC. You will be back.

I love my gamecocks, but it seemed the starters were off their game last night with the exception of Zia. LOTS of missed shots and lapses defensively on the pick-n-roll giving up several easy buckets to Iowa made the difference. Raven should have started shooting from outside earlier in the game to draw defenders out of the paint. That was not even close to playing to our full potential and we still had a shot to win this game. Great season though. Great run. Next year should be just as good or better.
I just watched UConn’s press conference. Geno’s Best player was on the bench in foul trouble basically the whole game. In his press conference, he said nothing about it and nothing about the officials. Staley could learn a few things.

Raven Johnson should have been A-LOT more aggressive shooting the ball. Shooting allows your bigs to get the rebound. Even if you miss! Your strength is your height/size. It puts pressure on Iowa. Play to your strengths.
Raven Johnson shot 21% from 3 this year. They out rebounded them 25 -4 on the offensive boards at one point. Let them shoot look there week point is they never had outside shooting consistently all year that is the week point of this team. All year they had to offensive rebound if they didn't they would have gone down a few more times. I mean where did youwant Dawn to all of a sudden get consistent shooters pull them out of her butt. Outside shooting allows your bigs to get rebounds. With SC it made no difference all year outside inside shots they were gonna rebound either way because they're so big. I am sitting here trying to figure out what the hell your talking about LOL.

If, and that'a a BIG if, ANY reporter ever judged her team by the color of their skin, and if, and that's a BIG if, ANY reporter ever called her team monkeys, then that reporter is gutter trash and should never have been taken seriously as a reporter. And it's not like other NCAAW basketball teams are not dominated by black players. So, the way I see it, those two comments by Coach Staley are completely out of bounds. I can understand the disappointment, which I'm sure is massive, but geez Louise. The two players were very classy and well spoken. And as somebody who has paid lots and lots of tuition money to USC I wish I could say the same for Coach Staley. Sadly, I can not.

Iowa played an outstanding game, have to give credit where credit is due, sincerely a UCONN fan. This sort of thing happens to gest teams, look up the 1990 UNLV Running Rebels losing to Duke in the Final Four after crushing Duke in the championship game by 30 the year before. My Uconn team losing to George Mason in the Elite 8 in 2006 as a 1 seed, or even my Uconn Women losing to Mississippi Sate the year before. When you are on top, it comes with having a target on your back every week. They will be back. Today, Iowa was the better team, and color has nothing to do with it. That Iowa team can ball!
TN Men's basketball got accused for playing rough and "bullying teams" and Rick Barnes handled it with class. I didn't feel like Coach Staley did the same. It seemed like she turned it into racism and that is never good for anyone! The players however were very graceful in their interviews.

SC dominated the boards and driving the ball to the basket. Iowa played better as a team, didnt miss as much and didnt turn the ball over as much. SC got outcoached and failed to adjust especially with Clark. She was the X factor and SC had no answer. All those things cost them the game.
Honestly, I was not aware that we press women not to cry. Agree that it is a natural emotion and it is not a display of any sort of weakness. And what could be wrong with tears of joy for having someone special in one’s life.
