I like the efficiency challenge of the solo mode, but I also really like the narrative. My solution for times when I want more narrative is to use the multiplayer scenario sheets, and just reduce the number of available days to balance it out, with the boss fight as a requirement rather than all option. Also, I include at least one extra story icon in the timeline set to enjoy more story moments (the writing is pretty fun).
Just got this and was and found the solo a bit lacking too. Played 2 handed first and got a bit blown away. Will try 2 handed now and I’m stealing your dice broadcast token rule ❤
How timely! I was finally going to settle down and try this game and its expansions solo this week. I’ve done 2p and 2 handed several times… was thinking “man, it’ll be nice to just solo this and relax and exploooore…” Thanks for the heads up 😊
Update: instead, I decided to skip over Resistance and go right to Journey Home. And… Highly Recommended! Something about the asymmetrical setup, more little side mission doohickeys, and no early end trigger makes it feel a little looser and sandboxy. Not sure if solo is any better, but definitely an improvement on the base game.
Nice video… it’s been an awhile since I played it but the solo game tracker “Timer “ can move back and forth depending on play.. also, the turn tracker with the Broadcasts …also has character tokens that you place there …and when you uncover your character token to refer to the story book… tons of flavor and immersive story as you play. … it has a lot more story potential than the first edition of this game. … I find it to be quite engrossing and plays super well as a single character. The expansions add a lot to that story .. especially the Journey home expansion…you start in the wilds and are working find a settlement. Just brilliant.
I know you like the game a lot! It ended up really falling flat for me after playing it some more. I actually greatly prefer the original version. I find that it offers up just as much theme, without as much work.
Thanks for another great review Daniel! Just wondering, did you play with the expansion Journey Home? Wondering if this would help with Enhanced narrative / additional missions?
I don't understand why that huge board was not chopped into 4 individual boards. It's a shame this game is not very good for solo, i'm always interested on post-apocalyptic games.
