Yes, we sure do! I had a spinal headache too, but it wasn’t after an epidural. It was after a spinal tap that couldn’t be completed until I had been poked more than a dozen times. They finally did my spinal tap under an x-ray machine but because of all the holes they poked I ended up with a spinal headache. So I definitely understand, you being a little more complicated than average I was one of the first women to receive a blood patch. Thankfully it worked for me but I did not know that I was having a spinal headache so it took me 10 days to reach out. At the time I had four kids, including a not quite two year old toddler , you are not kidding when you talk about excruciating pain I’m so glad you’re on the other side of it and now it’s time for you to sit back and get to know your son. Congratulations and virtual hugs from all of your many supporters here. We love you guys!

God has a way of taking the ugly and allowing the joys to be the main remembrance. Baby is healthy, Daddy is marvelous and Mama is healing mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Give your self room for a 5 minute cry if needed, and then recall every blessing as you hold your baby boy. Covering you all with prayer. As a nurse I'm seeing all the overcoming moments. Becky, thank you so much for sharing your story. It is, by far, the most difficult postpartum story I have heard. When you mentioned the doctor saying that your body hadn’t read the textbook, it reminded me of my experience with my firstborn. I ended up going to the ER on my third day postpartum. While I was in the ER, my husband was taking my son for his daily check since he was jaundiced at birth. The doctor came in and asked me why I was there and I completely broke down sobbing, and attempting to explain my issue. He was so good, he just patted me on the shoulder and told me that the third day postpartum is the worst. When you talked about being at day 5, I really felt for you. I really hope that sharing your story was cathartic for you. And if God blesses you with more children and you decide not to have an epidural, don’t worry, your body knows what to do. I have three grown children and each labor and delivery was different, but your postpartum story sounds much worse than the fleeting pain of delivery. Please give yourself as much grace as possible. I’m glad your body is healing and your heart will too. Sending you love and prayers.

Me too. Also a severe chronic pain sufferer AND had spinal leak from a spinal tap from meningitis testing. It was horrid. I was severely ill already too, while Becky was post partum going through it. We are all 3 warriors. We must pray for the good days when pain is more bearable, cherish them. While the days pain wins the battle, we just keep fighting the good fight and try keep a handle on what we can control which is our mental and emotional state. Trying to not sink into despair from severe pain. Instead focus on every good thing or memory in life, focusing on those we love, and focusing on our dreams to keep hope alive as long as we are still alive enduring. So glad Becky is doing better and recovering more and more every day. I'm glad she's slowed down and just focused on healing. We all feel that guilt while in severe pain of what we could or should be doing but absolutely cannot. But knowing we are doing the best we possibly can and that's all we can do- it's enough. God knows and knows our strength through our bodies pain and suffering. 🙏

Those of us who also have had challenging postpartum and birth experiences can very much empathize with how very raw it may still make you feel at times, as you process your experience, Becky. Be super kind to yourself and feel the feelings as they arise, as it is part of letting go what simply was beyond one's control in those first days. Postpartum migraines are very painful and debilitating, and it is wonderful to hear that you no longer have them. You have a beautiful, healthy little one who you nurtured in your womb incredibly well. I would absolutely leave your options open, not close anything down, you do not know how things will go, some people sail through others need help. Personally I’ve had 2 births which was way before epidurals were available, I would chose to have an epidural. Every birth is different, but I think here, her doctor should have picked up the high blood pressure, because this is the reason it should be avoided. Her swollen feet before she gave birth was a sign.

Epidural for sure you have no idea how long you will labor for some people labor for more than 24 hours and without an epidural they are so exhausted from the contractions that they can't push as effective as they would. My sister in law labored hard for 28 hrs when it came time to push she didn't have the strength. Personally I had an epidural for my 3 births and delivered anywhere from 7 to 12 hours. Wouldn't think twice about it.

As a mother of 6, think of things like this... Josh got to bond with baby A, something many new dads are terrified of as well as having to share baby with the mom. Not only that, but he rocked it! Josh was worried about you and did everything he could do for you to get better. You both are Rockstars! You are much better for them at your best health, physically and mentally. It's normal to feel a bit like you let your baby down, but you didn't! You did what was needed so you could heal, and no one ever would think that anything you did for your health was a letdown. You are here and on your way to returning back to the best(healthy) version of yourself. I felt horrible when my first born was born at 28weeks and I went home while he spent 2 months in NICU. I think I blamed myself for a long time and tried to think of what I could have done differently but in reality, my body and my son decided when he was arriving. Emotions are always high after birth 🙄 but you will get more normal as time goes on. And it is okay to have your moments (crying is OK too), but know that I speak for many of us, we are so grateful you, baby A, and Josh are all doing well. Thank you so much for being so transparent and thinking of us through all you have gone through. Welcome to motherhood. ((Hug)) It really looks good on you. My thoughts are with you as you continue to heal.

Yes! That dad bonding is so important too. I got very sick with what we eventually come to find was a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis when my son was 5 months old. I had severe vertigo (causing vomiting) and I could not walk without assistance because of the vertigo, I would fall. After about a week my husband said, "Look, I can take care of you or the baby but not both of you. One of you has to go!". Lol! I was so relieved because with having the baby with me I felt like I needed to care for him and not just heal. He kept the baby and I went to my parents for about 10 days. They would come visit with me of course but it wasn't the constant stress of caring for him. I could not have told my husband that I needed to be apart from the baby, I felt like a bad mom for thinking it. I was ever so grateful when my spouse spoke up.

My 'baby' is 26 years old, but watching your videos brought back a flood of emotions from the first 2 weeks after I gave birth. I ended up with a kidney infection the day after coming home, pain, fever, chills, but that was nothing compared to all the feelings I was having, from failing to follow my birth plan by asking for an epidural after being induced and laboring for 24 hours, and then failed at pushing baby out, ended up having a c-section, breastfeeding didn't just come naturally like I thought it would, couldn't get enough sleep and even had a hard time finding time to shower! My son never slept more than 20 minutes at a time and my Mom had come down with pneumonia just before he was born so she couldn't be there to help. I was a mess and I cried quite a few times. I wish someone would have warned me that I might be a tired, emotional mess for a little bit! But eventually things fell into place and I enjoyed being a Mom and raising my child. My only complaint now is that the time went by so quickly. Try to enjoy every moment, even when he's naughty, someday you'll wish you could go back and do it all again! My son just got engaged, so hopefully there will be a grandchild to love not too long from now!

When healing from my birth of my baby boy I said you never hear about these things it’s not glamorous it’s hard no matter what. No one talks about this. You are amazing for putting up your story. I had my baby the beginning of December I was induced, 36 hour labor, pretty sure the epidural stopped working at the end, pushed for over 4 hours, vacuum birth, 4th degree tearing, and baby in the NICU for 5 days. I also feel you so much when you feel the guilt and the mourning of missing time with your baby, breastfeeding was hard (still really is for me) I’m so glad your feeling better and I am wishing you and your family the best! Enjoy your son I know I am! He is the sweetest boy and I am so happy to be his mommy and would also do it all over again. ❤

So true. You are on a good path because you ARE being open and honest about your experience. TALK!!!! It’s going to speed up your healing in a way that you cannot even imagine. If you were telling this story without the emotion and just “telling a story” it wouldn’t come off as real, or truthful. It is emotional but absolutely not depressing. Your story is one of hope and victory. So many have expressed their glad and grateful thoughts for the opportunity that Josh had to show his love for you and his son in such a real and meaningful way. God knew what all three of you were going to need…. I’m so happy that you are ok and that in His Goodness, he has provided for you all!!! Also, as a Mom of three adult children and their spouses, and as a grandmother of five, your Mom was waiting for your call to come running to you!!! Love your work and blessed by your story. Thank you so much!!! 0:45

As a Nurse/Teacher, mom and gma, your story isn’t depressing. It is honest and will be with you forever. Bless you for sharing it, in doing so you gave other women who might experience these same issues knowledge. I hope you realize this also gave you a strength that just trusting your body to heal itself makes you a warrior. Many blessings on your healing journey even a year later🫶🏻❣️

Hugs Becky! My first delivery ended in a c section. It was traumatic for me and I went through a lot of the feelings you expressed and I’m sure are still going through. I found telling my story helped me and I’m glad you are telling your story. It’s a lot to process. I had a second child that was also delivered c section but with no dramatic long hospital stay and I found healing in that process! Talk when you need to, it’s not depressing to hear your story…it’s your story to tell and it’s all apart of the healing process! And you were so smart to stock your freezers with meals…I didn’t do that and that is one thing I’d go back and change!! Enjoy baby!

Girl, you've been thru it, haven't you?!? But you also have an amazing support team/family/friends/neighbors (dog-sitters included!). We are so happy to see you. You gave an honest accounting of your birth journey. There is nothing to feel guilty over, hon! Pain, hormones, things just gang up on you at times like this! You did great! I'm so glad to be one of your online...support? ...team? I am in awe of you!

Your experience will help so many people moving foreward. I've had numerous spinal cord leaks and I know every word is 100% true. I was injured after many epidurals (2 C-sections and then so many following a broken back that led to a severe spinal cord injury. I live with tremendous pain day and night. Know the knowledge you share will literally save others. Bless you, and I understand. Big hugs!❤ One day and one night at a time.

I have always been terrified of getting an epidural…and after hearing your story I am so glad I was able to have both of my babies natural and without medication!

Same! There are so many reasons to not get an epidural. Inductions are generally a bad idea as well as it can make the labor more difficult if the body just isnt ready and leads to needing more pitocin causing even more pain and more need for pain meds, artificially breaking the water, distress of baby, risk of tears, c-section and trouble breastfeeding. One intervention can often lead to exactly what happened in Becky's story unfortunately. Birth IS painful but our bodies are smart and strong enough to do it on its own.

Becky, you are such an a amazing & strong woman and mother. I can’t even imagine a fraction of what you went through - I’ve never had children. Thank you for sharing your story. It wasn’t easy and yes, I was crying along side you talking. Also, Josh is a super hero too!! I can’t imagine being responsible for a new born all on my own while worrying about my spouse. Team Acre Homestead going strong!! Sending all my love, light and strength your way. ❤ and BIG HUGS.

I have never watched a You Tube video before that made me want to climb through the screen and give someone a real big cuddle. Now you're through the worst of it I'm so happy to think that the three of you will have some family time together to build bonds. I wish you all endless joy and happiness together in 2023. Thank you for sharing your journey - you are a real warrior and a teacher. What an amazing combination! 🤩
