Thomas, great job as always! I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do in these long form videos. I have been watching them for quite a while now while learning CW and trying to head copy along as I watch. Finally this past weekend your videos helped give me the courage to not only do my first POTA activation at park K-0688, but did it exclusively on CW! Definitely wasn't very pretty and sent a LOT of question marks, but I still stumbled my way through it and made 23 contacts. Thanks again and keep up the great work, you are an excellent teacher! 73 de KI5RGK

EXCELLENT, Kevin!!!! Well done, OM! I look forward to working you park-to-park sometime this year! Thanks for sharing your kind note. Very proud of you and I think you'll find this CW POTA stuff incredibly addictive. :). And, hey, if you're like me question marks will be a very frequently used tool!

I keep trying to work you but it is very hard to hear you from central Ky. You sir have rekindled my interest in working CW. It’s been 25+ years since I worked CW. It’s like riding a bike after all these years. I’m working more Park CW than I ever have. Hope to work you soon. 73 DE K4MNF

Suggestion to go closer to an AM broadcast tower and test out the that Xiegu G106 with a ham whip and the BCI filter.

Oh if you are concerned about ads playing in the middle of the video you can disable that when you enable monetization. I have it turned on and it lets me choose exactly where to put ads and I always disable them mid video. I would see about getting access to monetization simply so you have more control over ads in your videos (as well as to take your deserved cut of the revenue)
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
Can you set it to only show ads before or after? I would consider this, as you say, primarily for the control of what ads play. Some have told me that no ads appear, others have told me that they do appear.
@JonathanKayne
@JonathanKayne Год назад
@@ThomasK4SWL yes, I believe so. When you go to publish the videos it has a checkbox for before, mid, and after. I always leave the before and after checked but disable mid-roll ads. I can't really tell if ads appear in your videos or not because I have RU-vid premium so I've paid to not see them. Some people might have an ad blocker preventing ads too which would explain why they have mixed results.

I’ve still never seen an ad on your videos, replays, playlists. Like you, I have monetisation turned off on my channel. Perhaps there’s a connection there.

Thomas, Thanks for the Farnsworth, I might miss some of the fluff, but I get the RST, and the BK. I try to put my pitch off to the side on XMT. Question Thomas, is the higher pitch or the lower pitch more preferred? The CW community is a neat one. I recognize calls signs on your log. Some LICW guys in there, and lots of park regulars. POTA has really helped my CW come along. I did my second solo POTA on Easter Sunday. More to come. Watch for me on the air. Thanks for all you do for the CW community. DE W4EMB, Ed in TN

Hi, Ed, Hmmm....I'm not sure what is better low/high pitch. In the end, I suppose it's a personal preference. Might be interesting to read up on what's best for ops with reduced hearing range. That might influence things too. GReat question--I'm good with either lower or higher.

Hi Thomas, greetings from the UK! Great video and great intro - your channel is among a few that I watch and that have no adds. I like that but I also appreciate if in the future it starts showing. On a different note, regarding this Begali paddle that you used in several of your videos, I think I fell in love just watching you keying and giving good review of its quality. Only thing putting me off is that the website says it weighs 1.5 pounds?! Is it really that heavy? That's probably twice the KX2. Thanks for sharing.
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
You're correct, Vitor. It's a heavy paddle, like most Begali paddles. For POTA, it's not an issue for me. I'm not going to add it to my SOTA pack though on those long hikes. It's a wonderful key, though. All Begali keys are!

So my daughters and wife all are hams. :) They love it that I'm so into POTA and SOTA and are very supportive. My daughters are super busy with school so rarely get on the air. My wife has a license because she promised it as a birthday gift to me a few years ago! :) They're all well and I hope your family is doing well too, OM!

@@ThomasK4SWL I think our daughters are the same ages. Man they keep me running hence the lack of pota for me lately. Lol. I think they’ve adjusted to the Morse playing in the living room. 😂 glad you have a great support team. Hope ur parents are doing well too om. Give hazel belly rubs from us

How long are the ground radials? I have 2 sets of 4 16’6” and can’t seem to tune 40m with a coil. Thanks
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
I'm not entirely sure--they're the standard length for the MC-750. I have no issue tuning it to 40M based on the whip's silk-screening. Might be worth contacting Jesse at Chelegance if you're having issues.
@truckinguy92
@truckinguy92 Год назад
@@ThomasK4SWL I’m not using this particular antenna. The reason I ask is because I've been using 8 16' 6" radials trying 2 coil setups (Super Antenna & BuddiCoil) both with appx 2 11" shafts below the coil and I can't get the SWR below 2.5-3.0:1 anywhere on or near the 40m band. Using a stainless steel jaw mount, Chameleon 17' SS whip and an 18" SS tent stake as far into the ground as I can. This is in average ground, not particularly dry. Laid 4 more (12 total) 16' 6" wires and it made very little change. I did try folding all 12 wires in half yesterday and still had an SWR 3:1. I removed 8 (now 33’ total) wires and was able to get 1.5:1 or less across the whole voice portion of 40. So now I’m really confused, because all of the research I’ve done says more shorter radials is better.
@ThomasK4SWL
@ThomasK4SWL Год назад
@@truckinguy92 Interesting. So I should think that the coil itself would have more to do with obtaining a low SWR than the ground radials. Those coils can be very fiddly--small changes to where you tap the coil could have a significant impact on the SWR. My only exposure to antennas like this are Wolf River Coils antennas. I have the TIA but rarely use it because tuning it takes a bit more time than my other antennas.
