Those of us who are old enough to know who Mr Crabtree is will know that par-boiled potatoes were once the carp bait of choice 😉

These 2 are just like skool kids at Christmas, so excited in every aspect, and whoever said that you need to be quite whilst sat on a peg

Those new potatoes in can, it is quite a common notion that Specimen carpers used to hook 'em. Probably died out with medern boilie type baits. It makes my day when a challenge pops up in RU-vid

I'm sure Bob Nudd used potatoes covered in coffee in a match once it was on screaming reels a long long time ago well done Andy you well and truly smashed Jamie 😀

I’m sure I have a book somewhere written by John Wilson and he goes on about potatoes as bait. There are a lot of other weird and wonderful stuff like using lentils and chickpeas covered too. My grandad tried those, I’ll never forget the day he told me to smell the tin when he’d opened it. He clearly knew something I didn’t 🤣🤣

Despite the incorrect Northern stereotype I thoroughly enjoyed that lads! Northerners don't use bloody bisto! We make proper gravy with the roast stock, browning, and a bit o corn flour. 🤣

Used to use potato pellets years ago punched out to 6/8mm and soaked in coffee over night in fridge before bands existed

I've had a 5lb common, and a 3lb chub on floating Hula-Hoops. I'd ran out of bread, and noticed fish 'topping' in the local 'Salford Anglers' pond. The Chub was a total surprise, but then hit into another 4 smaller ones, and a few Rudd on broken up peices, (banded), and they were the BIGGER Rudd too!! Bit of a frenzy on top, as I remember. Brilliant week as I also caught a big 3lb perch on LUNCHEON MEAT on the same pond! I also have a pic of a BEAUTIFUL common carp I got on my pole, on bread from same Salford Angler's pond.

Loved this. Besides the usual banter and showmanship, the bait is a bit of going back to basics. I've often used baits like potato, or peas, chickpeas, when river fishing in wild areas. Also, another killer bait is arpacaș (Arpacaș is a Romanian basic food produced by husking and refining wheat, spelt, barley or millet.). Boiled until it pops up, it's good as both groundbait, hookbait and it probably even sticks on methods. It's a killer for stuff like Rudd, bream, crucian and carp.

To be fair, using surface baits on a water that doesn't allow it was always going to work, great job down the edge though Andy!

These challenges are ace and you two are mad 🤣

Don’t know if you guys have already done it, but you should do a challenge where you watch each other’s float, telling each other when to strike, while still watching their float while you play the fish also. You can’t even look at your float when you bait up..so bait up for each other etc, The winner is whoever lands the most fish..but If Andy lands the most fish, that means Jamie won because he’s the one watching Andy’s float, baiting up etc…make sense?

Now the lads must get a show on prime time tv, just imagine the amount of new anglers from watching the lads just having fun. Absolutely brilliant 👏👏

This is up there for me. Proper enjoyable to watch.

A couple of challange ideas. Biggest weight difference so two fish biggest difference in weight between them. Count to 10 catch a 1lb, 2lb, 3lb up to 10 and fastest wins or who gets the higest number from 1 so you might catch 2 10lbers and nothing else then the other can win with a 1lber. Guess the weight 30 min match but who ever is cloest in guessing the weight of the newt wins. Love all your videos. This should be on TV if monster carp can be on TV this deserves to be

I was once stood on a bridge admiring a rather large chub when a nipper came along and threw a monster munch into the water, the chub, a good 6lbs plus, promptly gobbled it up... Crisps for the win for me from now on.

Watched this while fishing the feeder had to pause it a few times 😂 brilliant I'm going to do the tater challenge my self ☺️

Marinated potato pellets work well. another one to try is dried fruit. raison, currants etc.

Im fairly sure I remember 50 years ago reading Fishing with Mr Crabtree, who was used parboiled new potatoes to catch chub

Love the vids you guys make as a junior coach I always advise our junior section to watch you guys. Could you guys make a video blog aimed at junior anglers especially first second year junior anglers. We tend to find that youngsters especially our first and second year youngsters after watching angling Videos online turn up to our coaching sessions wanting to emulate you guys,now that’s great but most of them aren’t quite ready yet. If you guys could maybe make a video couple of simple rigs why’s and wherefore does don’t aimed at youngsters 7 to 8year olds Mainly fishing a 6m pole in water upto 7ft and maybe some advice to go along with it.now that would be a great help to lots n lots of clubs with junior sections 2 of the best match fishing guys on the planet giving them advice it would make our juniors stand up n listen especially when they think they can run before walking.thx

I'm sure there was a well-known angler back in the 80's/90's that thoroughly recommended spuds, garden peas and chick peas for carp and tench, probably the jolly beard JW .

Way back when before Carp puddles were invented and a 20lb carp was big news, the old carpers used par boiled potatoes as bait.
