Welcome back to Rocky Mountain Farmer! It’s Day 11 of our potato harvest, and things are starting off with a challenge. In today’s video, I’m tackling some unexpected repairs after a key piece of our potato cellar equipment went down. With harvest season in full swing, keeping everything running smoothly is a must, so I dive in to get the equipment back in action.
Once that’s handled, I head out to the field to do some vine beating and clear the way for our harvesters. The process of removing potato vines is crucial before we can dig the spuds, and it’s always a satisfying part of the day.
After finishing up with the vine beater, I finally get a turn behind the wheel of the potato harvester. Just as I’m getting into the rhythm of the operation, we hit another snag-the harvester breaks down! With the clock ticking and potatoes waiting to be dug, we scramble to figure out the issue and get the machine running again.
Join me as I walk you through the ups and downs of this day in the life of harvest season-where no two days are ever the same! Whether it’s fixing machinery, managing the fields, or troubleshooting mid-harvest breakdowns, this video gives you a front-row seat to the challenges and rewards of farming.
Don’t forget to hit that like button, and subscribe if you want to keep up with all the latest from our potato harvest and everything else going on at Rocky Mountain Farmer!

The few Ag channels I really enjoy all say the same thing. "I keep repeating myself." One guy who's about an hour or so south of me was thinking about stopping doing YT. Thankfully the enthusiastic subs like me told him how much we continue to enjoy the content and he felt better about things. Never worry about repeating yourself. Even though I'm new here, I think most would agree, your content is really excellent and very hands on. I've learned more about potato farming in the last month than I've ever known in my whole life. Like many, I'm also a huge fan of watching how the machines function. Every single adult who knew me as a little kid predicted I'd either be a large road builder or a farmer. That was based on my interest in huge machinery. How I ended up as a trader instead still escapes me. I'm absolutely blown away at the quantity of potatoes you guys can harvest in a single day. Lastly, as I've already said, you make things easy to understand and you're very articulate in your delivery. I'm grateful that you and your family made the decision to share this great content. Cheers to you and yours.

A few years ago a friend of mine bought a book about homemade wines, one night we were sat at his house to try out some wine which he had made .As we were drinking he started to tell us about the recipes which were in the book and how good the book was, except that there was no recipe for spud wine .when we all started laughing he couldn't understand why until we told him , he'd have to look under , p , for potatoes.he never lived it down , Even year's later😂

Next time you pull a new belt, suspect the roll on a fork or hang it under the conveyor on a pipe so it can roll off rather than pull the weight on the ground. Half the work in half the time. Less likely to damage the belt !

I'm going to tell you one of my many stories, about what happened to me when I was there, it's related to the band that broke up, one day a co-worker came and told me, well, you act very intelligent, Find out how to put the bands on, since they are very heavy and difficult to put on! -Wait for me a little while, let me think, look! You tell those who weld, to make you Rectangle, with metal, to put 2 fixed tires and another two that move, where it is narrower, to put some triangles, so that they can sit a bar, they put the bar in In the middle of the belt, since it is going to be heavy, they lift it up with the forklift, so they can arrange it where it is going to go and it can be unrolled more easily. The funny thing is that others kept the merits. Greetings and have a good day.

One thing for sure is good service is hard to come by, so when you do find it I like to tell everyone who to go to. Likewise if I get bad service I tell people about that too. I'm fortunate in that I still live in the town I grew up in. I know people, and that's a good thing. When you've known someone since childhood, you'll often get service they wouldn't do for anyone else. My problem now is everyone I grew up with are retiring, like me. Back to the farm, I believe I could watch the earth 🌎 devouring machine all day long. Unlike you, I don't have to be an octopus, using all my senses, and having to have my head on a swivel constantly. Bet you're tired by the end of the day!

I'm not sure but, you guys bought all brand new equipment, so that you wouldn't have breakdown, and it seems like you break down an awful lot. So that begs the question, is the quality of the machinery not that good, or are you guys that hard on the equipment, or is this normal? I'm just asking I have no idea I was just curious.
