I don't know what kind of pierogi are you made but they are not Polish Pierogi. Original recipe is with potatoes and special cheese witch is hard to get in UK or USA if you don't have shop with European food.
I guess it’s a good try to make a filled pasta dish but the only thing that’s really similar to the real pierogi is the shape. Looking at the ingredients it most definitely looks tasty, but Polish people most definitely take their pride in this dish it’s like stuffing a traditional ravioli with sweet and sour mix xxx take care ;) x Perhaps add the the title that it is your family recipe ;)
Excellent recipe! Made several batches today and they came out just like my grandparents used to make! Family loved em with sautéed onions, mushrooms and side of greens! Thanks for the great video and recipe!
Fun fact:Pierogies are a classic Polish dish There are also sweet pierogies with blueberries, strawberries, apples, … Also a fun fact: I’m from Poland 🇵🇱
My mother is Bulgarian and Father is Ukrainian so this recipe is not exactly Polish. My family calls them Vareniki :) We also fill them with blueberries and sugar sometimes. But I love the savory ones the most! :)
My husbands baba made these. We’ve tried to make them but struggled with size. (Too large. 😂) but after boiling we put them in the pan of butter and fry them. I would like to try this recipe!
A vegetarian friend of mine mentioned pierogies so I decided to give them a try. I found a recipe for the dough but I liked yours better. For the filling I had an old yam and a sweet potato. Added cheese and some store bought corn salsa. It just seems that these can be filled with just about anything your imagination (and pantry) can come up with.
Hi Timothy, yes pierogies really are versatile since you can adjust the filling per preference :) Glad that you decided to give this pierogi recipe a try and happy that you loved the dough :) Thank you for your feedback :)
Thank you! You can add braised cabbage, mushroom, ground chicken, pork, or beef. We also like to fill them with cherries and sugar or sometimes farmers cheese and sugar.
Just starting making them. This is the second recipe I tried I will look no further! I add my own insides but this shell beats no other! My family and friend love them! and my husband and I love making them. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you all enjoyed this recipe! If you can could you please leave this feedback on my blog, it would really help me out😊 simplyhomecooked.com/potato-pierogi-recipe-perogies/
Hi Dina. I want to make these without cheese. Do I need to alter the ingredient amounts to compensate? Also, since you are measuring salt by volume which type of salt are you using? If you are using table salt then I have to use twice as much kosher salt. Thanks.
These are the best perogies ever! I added diced thick cut cooked smoked bacon to mine. They went faster then a bird at Thanksgiving! By the way, the recipe makes ALOT of perogies. You can half it and still make a few dozen... I ended up freezing half the dough and made ravioli out of the rest, fabulous dough!
You are one of the few who ACTUALLY INCLUDES CHEDDAR with carmelized onions and mashed potatoes...my Croatian grandmother always used cheddar...lol pierogis are NOT made with cream cheese or riccota...no WAY! LOL Thank you and May God bless you!
I loved the texture of the wrappers, Thank you for this great recipe!! The only thing I’ll do differently next time is cook the onions only until they’re translucent so they’ll be less sweet.
