This was very pleasant and peaceful to watch - loved the music and your sleeping dog. I too very much enjoy doing various types of faceted thrown pieces, but I don't get to throw as much as I would like and I have not yet managed to throw such a tall narrow diameter cylinder to be faceted. I will try your technique of putting your left hand up to stabilize it as you are collaring it in and see if that will help me get the narrowness I'm aiming for. Since this is 3 and 1/2 years ago I'm sure you have done many more of these since. I'd love to see this done with a wiggle wire (stretched spring). I've seen potters remove the straight wire from a regular cheese cutter and replace it with a wiggle wire, but I haven't found a cheese cutter where I can do that yet so I just have to hold my stretched out wire between my hands and do my best not to cut too deeply. I look forward to checking out your other videos, website and facebook page in the future.

Hey amazing work ! It is so hard to open up from the inside without sustaining the wall from the outside. Also week spots on facets always want to stretch more. Have you seen asato ikeda’s work? he take a facets to a whole other level .

Hi Janice, I love the pot. What is the name of the tool you used to open/compress the base of the vase? Is it something you made yourself or ca you buy them? Regards, Melissa.

@EvolutionStoneware 5 лет назад
Hi Melissa - thank you! That tool is home made. A few years ago a potter posted a video about how he uses these PVC tools for opening larger amounts of clay & keeping the bottoms flat. You need 2 angle connectors, a T connector, & pipe. You can cut PVC with an inexpensive pipe cutter btw instead of a saw. Just make your middle length shorter than the 2 outer ones by however thick you want the bottom of your pots to be. I don't use it very often, but some times it comes in handy. Hope that helps!

I made mine with the center piece threaded, so I can vary the thickness of the bottom if need be.

Great work as always. Love your stuff. (What type of clay is that? Suggestion: would you consider doing a video about setting up a home pottery workshop?)
@EvolutionStoneware
@EvolutionStoneware 9 лет назад
Thanks Alec, that's a great video suggestion. I appreciate the idea! This clay is a cone 6 buff stoneware with grog. This is the clay that was rock hard & rehydrated. It was sitting around my studio for a few years. I think it's Standard 205G
