Like you video. Our girls Bina 11 and Gia 6 are pad trained... except when they aren't and just go where they feel like it. But accidents are inevitable. Its really not practical with IGs like mine, who refuse to step outside when it's below their preferred operating temperature of 69-80 degrees to not pad train them. Gia even does a little dance when she's been a good girl to let you know she deserves a treat.

Hi David, I am certain i answered your post, but it keeps coming up unanswered. i loved hearing about your Gina and Bina. i totally agree. i am looking at our first snow and I am so happy Nicky and Beezie are pad trained. No shoveling snow and not putting on boots and coat to have them stand on 3 legs and not pee. hope you are enjoying the latest videos on Gifts for dogs. thank you, joyce nicky and Beezie

Hi David, thank you for your comment. Yes, my girls Nicky and Bebe are both pad trained. It is so convenient when the weather is lousy they don’t have to go outside. It works well for them and me. The girls use the pads and They are really very reliable. The only time they do not use the pads is when the pads have pee or poop on them . They won’t use them if they are not clean. Bebe dances to me to tell me she has used the pads. I give tons of praise and a small treat every time they use the pads. Both girls were in previous homes and I was told they were not potty trained. Nicky had been in 3 homes before I adopted her. She is almost 100% pad trained. Thank you. I hope you enjoy the videos. Joyce

Thank you fo the comment and congratulations on getting your new puppy. In the beginning I cover the entire floor with the pee pads, then my puppy cannot make a mistake. I find with some puppies, they go potty faster if I move out of sight . I check frequently to see if they have peed. It does take a lot of patience. 10 minutes in the potty area, 10-15 minutes with total supervision in crate or attached to you . And then Back to potty area. Let me know your progress. I can try to answer your questions. Some puppies did and chew at pee pads . If you secure them with tape or put them in tray, sometimes that helps. Your puppy just thinks the pee pads are chew toys . Good luck

We already have dogs that have been outdoor potty trained. The problem is that we are moving to an apartment and it will not be easy for them to get down 14 floors every time they need to go. Is there anyway we can retrain them? Have u ever had to do that? Any suggestions? Thank u so much for taking ur time to film and post these amazing videos! I am learning a lot!!

Yes, it is definitely possible to indoor potty train a dog that has been going to the bathroom outside. it takes patience. Your dogs are not puppies so they will need to go to the bathroom less often which will make it easier for you.

thanks so much for your videos. i adopted a senior dog with health issues. they went outside at first, but as years have gone by the long walk from apt to grass is too much for them. i am not able to carry them. i must be able to transition to potty pads so i can keep them. thank you for your help!

Hi Joyce, I got my puppy a couple days ago, and I’m already seeing progress! I put the pee pad tray at the corner of my bathroom, and my bathroom is pretty small, I can only put the tray in a corner. Right now, he pees in the bathroom, but only on the extra pee pad area, not the tray itself. How can I point him to the tray? Or do I not need to worry about it for now ?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 3 года назад
Hi Miranda, in the beginning, I cover the whole floor. Wherever my puppy pees, it is good and on the pee pads. You will see where your puppy likes to pee and then you can move the tray there. Hope this helps . Any other questions, please ask.

If I put a pee pad and a bed in the playpen for the puppy to sleep at night, should I bring the puppy back to the same pee pad during the day? Or it is okay to have two separate pee pads, one is the eventually designated place in my bathroom, the other is just for at night ? Can I move the pee pad after the puppy get used to it?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 3 года назад
It is fine to have a per pad in a separate location during the day. I have pee pads downstairs in my bathroom and upstairs in my bathroom. My last answer will also answer this question. Thank you Joyce

Separate question-do you ever find that puppies regress in potty training progress? My 3 month old iggy has been making more mistakes lately
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 4 года назад
There are so many possibilities. The weather if you are potty training outside. Iggys hate the rain, change in routine, have you checked for a urinary infection. Is your puppy drinking more water because of the heat. It is 90 for days. If you are potty training indoors, have you been giving your puppy more room. Give me more information and I can give you more ideas.

I just rescued a 4 year old female Italian Greyhound. How many times a day should she pee?
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 3 года назад
Hi Kim, if your rescue dog is not potty trained, you need to take her to the pee pads every 30-40 minutes to catch the time she needs to pee. Wait 10 minutes with her on the per pads saying your potty word. If she pees praise and give treat . Sometimes you will wait 10 minutes and she will not pee. Then let her go away from the potty pads but keep her attached to you so she does not have an accident . Keep a record of when she eats and pees and poops for 2 weeks and you will have a better idea of her schedule and how often she needs to Pee. Of course as a rescue dog, it will take time for her to relax and get into a routine . I hope this helps . Let me know how you are doing . Thank you . Joyce

Thank you for the video, Joyce! I am training a 9 week old girl iggy. Do your puppies sleep in that small crated area? How much time do they spend in that area during the day? -Laura
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 4 года назад
Hi Laura, thank you for your question. In the beginning, My puppy lives in my kitchen during the day which has a tile floor. I put gates at the doorways. He takes his naps in the crate and spends time playing in his play pen when I can’t watch him. When I can spend time with my puppy, I open the play pen and block off a section of my kitchen for play. The pee pads are within the section. Gradually I enlarge the puppy area of play giving them more of my kitchen until they play in the entire kitchen always going to pee pads with no accidents . Then I add a second room to the area. I hope that gives your answer. Is small crated area the crate or play pen. May I use your question in the q and a I am planning

thank you so much for the information! my puppy just broke her leg on a park bench (poor baby) so training has gotten tricky for the time being, but this is super helpful for when she begins to heal

Elle Ess so sorry, I can really sympathize with your baby, I have been through it with a dog I had years ago. Lots of love and cuddling. Confinement and slow recovery and hoping she will be fine soon. Stuffed Kong’s are great at this time. If you have any questions, leave a comment .

I’m having issues with our new Italian greyhound puppy where she’s pretty good at going pee at night on the pads but we are having trouble during the day. She seems to go pee during random times and it’s hard for me to keep her in her potty pen because she’s constantly shaking and whining to get out. I let her out then I keep her on the leash with minimal fun (no food or toys). Then eventually she never shows potty signs and I try to feed or water or play with her and then eventually she pees or poops when she’s 5 feet away. Do I just need to suck it up and put her in her potty pen or crate unless I can be very close to her? Also I’m close enough to catch her when she starts going, should I rush her over to potty tpen? Reward her or no?

I think the first thing we need to do is help her to like the puppy pen. play the crate game tossing the treats in the pen and letting her run to get them. Teach her it is fun to be in the pen, stuffed kongs, raw meaty bones . When she is working on those open the pen door and let her out. She will learn she only comes out of the pen when she is relaxed. and the pen is a great place to be. At other times, spend time holding her close and cuddling her. how long have you had your puppy. When you play with her out of the pen tossing a toy , there should be gates and x pen to block off a small area to prevent your puppy from getting too far from the puppy pen. She will think it is ok to pee and poop because she is far enough away from where she eats and sleeps. then take her to the pen. a treat every time she pees on the papers. Do you have a separate area for potty or is it the puppy pen. If it is the same, keep the pen open so she can run to the pen when she needs to pee. When you can't watch her, yes, she needs to be in the pen. Have patience, it takes time. It is good she is going to the papers at night. If she is peeing or pooping, pick her up and take her to the papers. you can move the poop to papers and soak a paper towel or another pad in the pee and move that to the pen. praise her while the pee and poop are in the pen, but i don't feed a treat. i only feed the treat when the pee and poop are done on the papers unless the puppy just walks a little off the papers, then i move it to the papers and feed treat., You need to compromise in the beginning. Never get angry for your puppy peeing or pooping on the floor. you don't want your puppy to think they are not supposed to pee or poop anywhere in the house. You are paper training . Let me know how you are doing. Best, Joyce

What if they pee on their bed
@DiamondDogTraining
@DiamondDogTraining 8 месяцев назад
if the bed is inside the puppy pen, replace it with an washable mat. Or move the bed to the other side of the pen. Or replace the bed with a solid crate and prop door open so your puppy can play in the crate and walk out of the crate to pee on the potty pads. Keep rewarding your puppy for peeing and pooing on the potty pads. Or Keep the bed for when you are sitting with your puppy on the floor and petting and playing. hope this helps you and your puppy. Any more questions, please ask . Thank you, Joyce
