This does NOT show how to replace the fuel lines, it is meant to show the layout or configuration of the fuel lines.
When I replace the lines, I use .080 X .140 for the thinner line and 3/32" ID X 3/16" OD for the thicker line.

I am four score and one year old. And at best, I'm a weekend warrior mechanic. I recently spent a good day and a half, on-line, trying to find out how my model 2375 Poulon chain saw fuel lines were routed. Finally, after viewing your video, I am ready to tackle my repair and hopefully get my chain saw running again. Thanks a million.

Congrats you nailed the Poulan routing. So many wrong RU-vid vids got it wrong. The primer bulb has two different size nipples. The larger is labeled TANK and is more centered than the other labeled CARB which is closer to the screw hole. The filter goes on the small diameter line on the hole closest to the filler cap. The return line (larger) dia. hose goes to the farthest hole from fuel filler cap and had a small union fitting inside to prevent pulling it out. . The lines to carb depend on the model so right and left won’t help. The diameter of the fittings on the carb MAY match. Generally the top is feed and the lower the return to the tank. The primer assembly is past the carb. If you prime and see fuel squirting in the carb...it’s wrong. I have a Poulan 2150 woodsman. The top came from the tank, the bottom to the primer bulb. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for providing this much detail. I have a Poulin 2150, the routing is identical to this video. The only thing that I would add is don't make the same mistake that I did, I bought a generic replacement kit that had two 1' lines. The thicker one has an interior dimension of 3/32" and an outside dimension of 3/16" and is correct. The thinner one is an interior dimension of 1/16" and an outside dimension of 1/8" and was too thin. I found out from another video that the correct line into the tank has an interior dimension of .080" and an outside dimension of .140. I bought a foot of it at the local Small Engine repair shop for under $2.00. It's a tight fit to get the filter on, I had to use a Heat Gun for a few seconds on low. I'm sure that if I'd bought both pieces from the shop that it would have been about half the price of the kit.

Many thanks for the excellent video. The fuel filter hose inside the tank on my Craftsman 18" saw broke off from deterioration over the years and I mistakenly connected a short piece of new hose (with filter attached) to the "nipple" on the end of the hose coming from the primer bulb, which of course was wrong! So after it not starting I searched the internet on the topic and found your video which set me straight. Replaced the fuel line from the carb into the tank (with filter on the end) and all is good again. BTW, I figured out that the short nipple on the primer bulb (one that connects to the carb) is the suction side, and the long nipple (that connects back into the tank) is the discharge side. Just put your finger over the short nipple and squeeze the bulb and you will feel the suction. So I believe the mechanics of this is that when you push the primer bulb it sucks gas in from the tank, the gas flows through the carb (thus priming it), and the excess gas is discharged back into the tank. You probably already knew all that but this may be helpful for others in understanding how the primer bulb works. Again, thanks for the great video.

That was my question, of course. I replaced the fuel lines the way I figured they should go, but didn't notice the second inlet on the carb, which is on the OTHER side of a 2375 (amazing how much difference between models with the same number), but lower. I also didn't notice the second hole for the fuel tank until after I watched this video. Most people with this problem don't realize that it is ethanol in the fuel that destroyed these fuel lines (try it - you can put certain types of plastic in ethanol and watch it crack in front of your eyes). It irks me that Congress ordered this and nobody bothered to tell people that ethanol would destroy many of our lawn mowers, edgers, chain saws, boat motors, etc. The new fuel lines should be ethanol-resistant. Oh, to get the fuel lines through the fuel tank holes, I cut them at a sharp angle, feed it through until I can grab it with long needle-nose pliers, then rotate the pliers to make the hose wrap around them, which pulls it through. Thanks for the info - I couldn't find it elsewhere.

I have 2 Poulan Pro 42CC and a WoodShark chainsaws and need to replace all of their fuel lines. Thanks to youtube, I'm seeing that oddly to me, the supply line from the tank (with the filter) is actually the smallest diameter fuel line, and the return line from the primer bulb, back to the tank is slightly larger in the ID diameter for some reason. I'd of bet it was the other way around, but that's not from what I found. I can't find the proper, smaller sized line locally anywhere, and I'm very tempted to simply drill out the hole in the tank a bit, and use the line I have found. I'm guessing Poulan's design engineers are way smarter than me for sure, so they must have their reasons for making the saws as they do. Why do you think these Poulan's even need to have 2 different sizes of fuel lines in the first place, and maybe more importantly, why do you think the supply line is the smaller of the lines? Thanks for your thoughts. Dave

Hello sir ! Very informative video. I've purchased a Poulan 2050 2.0 from someone and replaced fuel lines and primer bulb. The old primer bulb just shattered like glass from sitting in a garage so long. My problem is as follows. I press the primer bulb and it doesn't seem to fill with gasoline no matter how long I press it. Isn't it supposed to be full of fuel to start ? The saw won't start. Could this be an indication there is some blockage in the carb itself ? From what I can make out from various diagrams, fuel first goes thru the carb THEN to the bulb. By the way, no blockages NOR kinks in any line.

@RealManSkills

I have never seen any additional tubes inside the fuel line. However, maybe it's something that was added to keep the fuel line rigid or tight through the hole. Can't say for sure. Sorry

My chainsaw had the filter on the large line in the tank from the factory. Every video I watch on this saw seems to show the filter on the small fuel line. The saw in your video is just like mine. Very informative. I have one question. On the large line that has the nipple into the tank, how far down in the tank should the line go?
@RealManSkills
@RealManSkills 8 лет назад
I push the line into the hole until I can get it through the gas tank opening. I put the nipple on it and then start pulling it back out through the small hole. When you can't pull on it any longer, that means the nipple acts as a stop (because it won't fit through the hole). Done! So it's only in the tank a little. That line is just for air flow into the tank, so it doesn't need to be submerged in gasoline like the filtered line. Thanks for watching.
@tomf1930
@tomf1930 7 лет назад
If it was down in the gas, would that keep it from running? I didn't know and pushed it down to the bottom of the tank, thinking it would need to be down there to draw fuel in the primer bulb when the fuel level was low. It starts and runs with full choke but dies a short time later. Or it does if you close the choke. When I get back home I'll pull the hose back to the top of tank.
@robjohnston5292
@robjohnston5292 6 лет назад
That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks! So, does the primer bulb create a vacuum inside the carb which then draws the fuel up the line that has the filter on it?
@iammichaelhughes
@iammichaelhughes 5 лет назад
My primer bulb was cracked and when I went to replace noticed all fuel lines were brittle and cracking. Have a two questions: 1. Does the primer bulb use 2 different size fuel lines? 2. How do you install the primerbulb line to the tank does it just connect to a fitting that has another line that goes into the fuel or what?
@RealManSkills
@RealManSkills 5 лет назад
Not all are the same, but in this case, 1) the two lines on the primer bulb are the same size. 2)The line from the primer bulb to the tank, just goes into a hole in the tank. No other line or fitting.

My Poulan Woodshark's gas cap binds and unless I use a wrench to tighten it leaks gas on the floor or in may car. I was told that this is common for a Poulan and that replacing the cap would not help. Do you have a solution?
@RealManSkills
@RealManSkills 10 лет назад
This is very common for Poulan/Craftsman chainsaws. The only explanation that I ever heard was the the gasoline causes the plastic to swell. I have gotten into the habit of leaving the cap off when not in use (I try to have no gas in the tank if possible). Leaving the cap off to "breathe" or "dry out" seems to work. Hope that helps - Thanks for watching.

Ken Benson Check the rubber seal on the cap, and the rim around the tank carefully. Make sure the seal is still in OK shape, and that there's no wood chips or dirt on the rubber seal or the rim of the tank. I've got one each of the Poulan and the Craftsman versions of this saw and neither leak if I keep these areas clean.

william williams I have since added that info to the video and in the description. Thanks for asking, I know that it's a common question and one that I am happy to answer.

sblg43 Could you use the same size line for everything or is it important to use both? I see home depot has a fairly good size package of universal fuel line for cheap that I'd like to use. Thanks.

Rob F. The chainsaws that I have require two different sizes because the holes that they have to go through are two different sizes. If your line is too large, you may not be able to get it through the hole or it may get squeezed too tightly and restrict fuel. If your line is too small, you may have a gas leak around the hole.

I replaced my fuel lines with copper tubing used in HVAC metering devices. I never have to change my fuel lines again.

This sucks! I have a poulan pro335 that has no primer. Old school choke. Not one video for that old beast. Thing is I have a fuel line going into carb and intake? What's what? Hate to trash it when it's right it's a cutting machine.
