Seen a DIY years ago who a home was totally build out of tires, placing color glass bottles in between, what a neat ideal. Then building code stop the build, but to me seeing it doing better then any stick built.
I think this type of construction is fantastic, as there are so many tyres. I cannot understand why it seems everyone is so fascinated with the manual labour bit. All it does is make it impossible for mass uptake of a fantastic idea, limited only to those who have five thousand hours, or 30 friends to help them.
Is a one hour time budget per finished compounded tire realistic for a first time builder? 1500 tires x 1 hour = 1500 hours/ 8 hours per day = 188 days/ 30 days = 6.25 months
I respect the work but Im over 50 so Im buying about 4 or 5 shipping containers berming 3/4 around with dirt and ground tires and calling it a home . Plus doing the inside be a lot more fun lol
Yep 50 here also, I was thinking something similar - why not just lay out 6 or so shipping containers and fill them with dirt, instant flat level berm and walls to work off.
I'm too lazy and too old to pound so much time for filling a tire. For this reason I made a hidraulic press to fill it. It's much easier and faster. :::)))))😜😁😇
I'm not sure if you got your answer already, but let me try here. The size depends more on your design criterion such as, the soil and foundation type, how deep, how high will your walls, and the load you want them to support. Some people say it best to use tires that can be 33" overall diameter and up. There is a code out there - I believe it is within the New Mexico building code. It is best to hire a professional that can complete your design.
What you learned on your 299 tire is you shouldn't have smoked so much weed to convince yourself that building with tires is a good idea and that the time it takes to do this work you could have worked at Mc Donalds to pay for regular building materials.
Just about my conclusion every time I come back to consider the wonderful, brilliant, "cheap" idea of building with tires. Packing tires is more boring than watching paint dry and unlike the latter, it brakes your back. It may be cheap if you have no other option and a lot of time in your hands.
