Britain is one of the world's highest performing and productive economies. The real question is, where does all that money go, and why isn't it primarily used to make our lives better?

All China has done is take over mass manufacturing of small items such as iphones because it has a huge readily available workforce. America would have to embark on a program of mass migrant workers in order to compete and that will never happen.

Economy theory is based on a very long history - which levers to pull or release depending on the economic crisis - and why. As humans we often get the timing wrong - with drastic consequences. but the basic levers are known. Another point is that being brilliant means little for being right about things - because of biases. It's one of the first things one learns during critical thinking/logic courses. E.g. If someone has a religious belief in something, it matters not how smart they are - to sway them is nearly impossible.
