Jill Lepore writes so much faster than I can read, and now I'm building a playlist of her videoed talks and interviews on youtube to rest my eyes. More than 100 hours, i think.

Jill is very erudite and brilliant, but the aspect of her personality that I like best is her unpretentious style. She's the opposite of the stereotypical haughty gatekeeping professor. If ever there was a subculture deserving of a skewering parody, it's the academic world. When I see her interacting with other over-educated types, the contrast is very noticeable. She attempts to sidestep the vocal fry, the radical liberal politics, and the cooler-than-thou nonsense that is rife among them. Thankfully she still illuminates the rich ideas that come from that crowd without all the divisive turn-offs, which is exceedingly rare now.

Do you have a in-house book club?

We do, but it centers on fiction. Check in with your local B&N store, though. Some have their own book clubs and do cover nonfiction.

What an inspiring woman. I love how she personalizes history and elevates the stories of people’s lives. I’m sick to death of his-story🤷‍♀️
