Part 2 of the garden room build, in this episode we are laying the hardcore, DPM and pouring the concrete mix ready for the main structure to go up.
In this series I will be breaking down the costs and showing step by step how I built the 4.5 x 2.9 metre room with side shed which has added sound proof and smart features installed.
Tools used:
Rake - amzn.to/3VKT8cV
DPM - amzn.to/4csW2IR
Timber 2x6 for leveling
I will be dropping weekly videos of both indoors and outdoors renovation/DIY work

Genius solution for inserting the bolts into the slab. Think I'll steal that !

This is very similar to something I want to do. Thanks for sharing a giving me an idea on what to expect. I can’t afford to get a contractor to do it so I’m doing it myself.

No worries mate, the great thing is you can take your time and your not breaking the bank with contractors when you can do most I’ve it yourself, good luck with the build

@@JazzScottDIY you’re right, I’m in the building game myself so have half an idea, but watching your video has given me the confidence to take it on.

Really good. I want to make a brick tall raised garden bed in my yard, but the concrete of the floor of the yard is sloped (towards the house + into the middle).Do you (or anyone else) have any advice about how to make the base level?
@JazzScottDIY
@JazzScottDIY 23 дня назад
Thanks really appreciate it, that's an interesting one, I've not had to do that myself (yet) but I think I would build up the lower end with a concrete in like with the base of the bed to level it off, but I guess it depends on the slope 👍🏾

How did you get the quantity wrong? Was it just calculated wrong or what? Doing a similar project soon and don’t want to be in that position
@JazzScottDIY
@JazzScottDIY Год назад
Well I believe the amount delivered was under as I order slightly more than I needed but the only other thing I can think of is maybe the centre was slightly deeper than the outer corner. If I was doing it again I would perhaps order a little more than I did but was trying to keep cost down 👍🏾

Ow much did you pay for concrate? And what was the amount in cubic meters ?
@JazzScottDIY
@JazzScottDIY Год назад
I paid £357 for 1.3 cubic meters to cover 4.5 x 2.8 meter that was in 2021, the the cost for the whole build is added at the end of the vid, hope that helps and cheers for watching

How high above the ground level did the slab finish? When you did you timber wall, did you add anything other than a DPC? Any issues with damp?
@JazzScottDIY

Hi Alan, so my garden is on a slop so the right side of the slab is below ground by about 2 inch’s and the left side is about ground by about 2 inches so the whole building/concrete slab has a 4/5 inch gap which is in filled with shingles for drainage. I just have a DPC and it’s working great, I’ve been in the garden room for over two years and not a sign of damp anywhere, the walls over hang the concrete by approx 1 inch and is wrapped in the water proof membrane. The only thing I wish I had done is use foil backed tape when doing the roof as it’s a cold roof.

Do you need a DPM for a garden shed?
@JazzScottDIY
@JazzScottDIY Год назад
No not really mate, but I thought I would go over board for longevity and It does prevent moisture transfer to the timbers 👍🏾

No rebar?

No and I don't have anything against it but overkill for a project like this. It's a light traffic area and It's still holding strong with no issue. 👍🏾
