Come along with me as we start Pouring Concrete Drive at RRHQ 2.0. There is some prep work to do first with underground plumbing for gutter run off and grade work, but it all comes together after we are done pouring the concrete driveway.
I had my guys from Demps Concrete Back to take the lead on this project. If in the Dixon, IL area and you need concrete definitely give them a call
Looking for plans for a barndominium or shop
Check out rrplans.bigcar...
I loved using the ‪@Kubotatractorcorp‬ SVL 97-2 with the ‪@LandPrideImplements‬ Trencher. It made my day so so much easier when putting the underground drainage pipes in.

Much respect to the older man working hard and making it look easy. Watching the crew work through the pour and finish was like watching witnessing a perfectly executed end around go for a touchdown. And your drainage system design was spot on. Awesome video Kyle.

Kyle... I was taken aback at how phenomenal 2.0 is shaping up! The guttering section before this was the best view of how you want your runoff to flow! The concrete work shown here is absolutely incredible... especially with that " ROLLER STRIKE " screed ! That ought to be in every concrete crew's back pocket... what an EPIC twist of simple engineering turned into one of the finest " earth shattering " solutions EVER INVENTED! Thanks again for sharing these mutually beneficial TIPS & TRIX! Respectfully and humbled, Seth

Kyle, not using corrugated pipe and keeping the slope on the underground drainage is awesome and has a really great side effect of not allowing mosquitoes to breed in your underground pipe segments which is where a lot of peoples mosquito problems come from and they have no idea.

My dad was a GC back in the 60's and early 70's. He had a vibrating screed he built himself. The main part was a electric motor mounted on a wood platform that was attached to a offcenter lead weight, that he cast himself, mounted in pillow blocks with an rag joint between them. He would attach the platform to whatever size 2x that was needed for the job. A rope would be attached at each end so it could be pulled along the form. A electric cord ran out one rope to a j-box that had a twist switch on it. The first time that I got to see it was in the early 90's when we poured a pad for my parents motorhome. It worked fantastic and the concrete truck drivers were all fascinated by it as they had never seen anything like it. Dad gave it to me when they sold the house.

Kyle, as a plumber, who came in while we were still using optical survey tools, I was always told 1% was enough, 2% was ideal and 3% is too much. So, if you only had 6" (0.5') of fall in 50' you would be OK- a whole foot would have been ideal and a foot and a half too much. But it is a clear water drainage line, so too fast and running off from solids isn't an issue. But a pipe that is steady on it line and doesn't trap water in sags and bellies is what you want. How is the interior finish going?

If I was doing it, I would have added some wire mesh over the top of the drain pipe in conjunction with some rock so it would support the concrete really well. My neighbor is a concrete guy so with his help we have added additional drain pipe and resolved any problems we could have with a collapsed drain pipe!

In my estimation mesh in a slab on grade pour is useless because it never gets pulled up into the pour and ends up on the ground or all over the place. because it is impossible to pull up evenly.

In the community I live in. If you empty down spouts from a roof into a creek or stream, you need an Order of Conditions from the Towns Conservation Committee. Then the planning board will review that and give recommendations. If approved the building department is notified to make sure that the drainage system was on the original building permit. If not, you may have to pay an additional fee. The Board of Health is notified because you are taking water from a structure and placing it in the ground. If you make it by all of them AND pay their fees you are ok. And if they real want to make it difficult for you. Any one of them can call the Fire Department because you are working near a gas line.

Nicely done, great information. Make sure you put a screen or grating over the end of your drain pipe to keep critters from nesting in the pipe.
@psidvicious
@psidvicious Месяц назад
I was thinking the same thing. Most roof drainage systems just pipe the water out about 3-4 feet away from the foundation and let it spill wherever from there. They took the extra time and effort to send the water all the way to a water source. I didn’t see any clean outs installed along the way, which could come in handy later if critters do end up dragging some nesting material in there.
