This reminds me of how we painted cherry blossoms in my elementary art class. It was quite amazing. We had a great art teacher. It was with a straw we would blow the paint to draw the tree and it's limbs. It worked very well.

@@marthacunningham2028ou can if you paint the canvas with a watercolour ground (a special type of gesso that turns anything into a surface that can accept watercolour, but is pretty expensive though), or maybe even try gluing watercolour paper onto your canvas? Make sure whatever glue you use doesn’t soak into the paper though so it remains absorbent. A thick paper might work but I’ve never tried it, just wondered the same as you. Watercolours need something to soak into to stick, otherwise they just flake or rub off. “Some canvases are specially formulated with a gesso designed for all water-based paints. You sure can step up the game with our Marinescape 5-colour watercolour paint set from paper to canvas but the question still stands is how to do it? How can we use watercolor on canvas? The only thing you need to consider is that standard canvas is not absorbent enough to hold the liquidity of watercolors. In this case you need a canvas specially made for your professional watercolor paints that can absorb. You can either make it yourself with a few absorbent gesso coatings on the standard canvas or buy pre-treated water-media, or mixed-media canvas, or panel. Pros and Cons of watercolor canvas Professional watercolor paints require more support from the material they are painted on to hold their artistic form as this type of painting is not structured like oil-based painting and acrylic painting. It required a specialized paper to be absorbent and porous enough to hold the colors and it has its own pros and cons. Pros Canvas is environmentally friendly as it is 100% made up of cotton. Professional watercolor paints like Winsor & Newton cotman on specialized canvas don’t tend to wrap the paper at the edges compared to normal watercolor papers. You can undo the work you have done by simply washing the watercolor paints off the canvas which cannot be done on simple watercolor paper due to its highly absorbent nature. Cons It requires re-developing your watercolor skills as both materials are comparatively so different. You might experience pooling difficulties to handle the colors on canvas as they are not as absorbent as watercolor papers. The Best Results requires a Suitable surface Every choice comes with consequences, so you must keep your eye out for an appropriate canvas, basically, choose canvases that are specially made for watercolors. Watercolor papers are much softer and far more absorbent, so choosing the specialized paper which is suitable for watercolor canvas painting is essential.” From: Watercolor!
