Sadly even though I have absolutely no idea of it's origin I still got a clover tat with my sister years ago to represent our Irish side.. my other side is American Indian.. putting those 2 together means one definite thing... Did you know……back in 1950’s and 1960’s, Ireland sent many Catholic nuns and priests to the USA. They came as missionaries. They taught us Irish songs and all about Saint Patrick, and how he used the shamrock to explain the Trinity to the people of Ireland. We always had big parties in school for St. Patrick’s Day, and if you didn’t wear kelly green, you might get a pinch, not that the nuns allowed that at all. Sugar Cookies with green sprinkles where the order of the day. These are all cherished memories.

Im from New Zealand and one st patricks day fall on a friday or saturday, so of course most people didnt have work the next day. We get a lot of tourists and one german guy said to me "you all take st patricks day very seriously" since we were all drinking so much. I had to break it to him that we just have a massive drinking culture in new zealand and if theres an event, we dont just drink. We _drink drink_
My son said, “most people can’t drink a German under the table, except Japanese. Japanese can’t drink Irish under the table. No one can. Most people are mostly water, Irish are mostly ethanol!” Pretty funny for a 15 year old!

In all honesty the only reason I might be traveling to Ireland on St. Paddy's day would be because the airfare was magically cheaper than another time of year and I had the free time to trace the family tree.

They have a huge parade in Savannah Ga for St. Patrick’s day. They are a city that allows you to carry alcohol around as long as it’s not in a glass container. The next day it looks like Jonestown. So many people passed out on River Street that they can’t drive the trolleys down.
Savannah native here, and yeah, the city changes dramatically for St. Patrick's Day! River Street becomes more full than usual and the next day is...less than pretty, especially because some tourists don't get back to their hotel fast enough haha

Sometimes I'd head downtown for errands and then park my car and walk around before ending the day at my favorite ice cream shop (Leopold's, you should try it if you haven't already!)

I'm Mexican on my dad's side, and my birthday is even May 5th. The celebration of Cinco de Mayo is similar to St. Patrick's Day in that it's more important in the diaspora, and it's an excuse to drink.
Reminds me of my Irish nanny. She didnt grow up there just born there. She grew up in Newfoundland. Irish people and newfies sound so much alike. Also Newfies can drink to lol.
My favourite part is the fact you get discount alcohol on Patty's, which is a win for me bc I'm about to turn 18, on St. Patrick's Day, meaning from then on I'll get discount alcohol every birthday

Lol this is so true….I have the American superpower of growing up in Germany. To the American standard I am a severe alcoholic. To my German friends I have a slight drinking problem😂 I’ve had many a fun times in Ireland…. Other tips would be Dont stay in Dublin (it is super expensive), don’t waste money renting a car, know your bus route/ schedule BEFORE getting on, don’t drink Guinness all day and then go on the Haunted Dublin Tour IDC how strong a stomach you think you have. 😂Also American s don’t name your kids Gaelic names please, it’s cruel. My mom got away with it because I was named for my great gran. But without out Google can any American pronounce Saoirse? Don’t worry I’ll wait😂
I live in Savannah, Georgia where they take being "The Hostess City" VERY literally on St. Patrick's Day. So I'll probably just stay home, watch the parade on TV, and crochet the day away. Maybe grab a couple drinks from the bar down the street if I feel fancy and try to dodge tipsy tourists 🤣
I used to live near Savannah. St. Patrick's day is so wild in Savannah but I loved it! I used to get there midday and stay out all night. I miss Savannah so much 😭
I was lucky enough to be in an art exchange program between my college and one in Ireland. Sadly, it's been many years and I've forgotten the name of the college. We collaborated with their art students to create our art in the US with things they sent us, like pictures. I spoke to a lovely girl for a few weeks who lived in Ireland. It was so cool. It was before all this social media took off and didn't have the ability to talk as much and keep in touch as I wish we would have. But we sent a couple students with our finished art to Ireland and my artwork was hung up in the university over there for their art exhibit and their art was displayed in our art exhibit. It was truly a wonderful experience. I would love and I hope I get to go to Ireland one day. Love your videos. Am a huge fan.
Saint paddy’s day is my birthday! But my dad is welsh! I was actually due on March 1st which is saint David’s day (patron saint of wales)! Dad was just happy that I was born healthy but it was a funny story he’d always share. Thanks for sharing these. They’ve been a lifesaver on dark days
3 is so so so real, visiting the US was so weird, almost everyone who realized I was irish SHOUTED top of the morning in my face. Now, violence is never the answer. But, sometimes it's really the most tempting options
I was under the impression it was just one of the many Saints day and was a mass day in Ireland. The green and the drinking and other traditions were things done in US and Canada mostly.
