Yeah, typical staining = decay philosophy. We get taught colour is not a reliable indicator of decay activity and to go with texture. This cavity could have been alot smaller.
Im a dentist, and the amount of tooth that dentist drilled was absurd and completely unnecessary, in fact from the color of that cavity im sure it was arrested and didnt even need to be removed… 💀🤦🏻♂️
I was thinking the same thing and even though I wasn't scared of dentists before this is giving me second thoughts. They drilled a fkin crater in that tooth, they removed way more than the dark parts
The hole needs to be big enough to give the filling material something to bind on to. So in every case the filling is always going to be bigger than the cavity itself.
Bruh, shut up if u dont know anything. Even if the black part is gone, i bet some of the yellow part is partially decayed. Always use texture for indicator, not color
I’m not a dental expert, but I do recall on several other shorts that she said the dentist can feel compromised tooth structure with the drill head. So even if a section looks okay on video, they still scoop it out if the structure feels softened and goopy compared to the non-rotted tooth structure. Obvi, dentists vary in quality, expertise, and fine motor control of the hands, but I, personally, would rather lose a little extra healthy tooth than risk leaving in some of the infection. Like, if it doesn’t all come out the first time you’ll probably be more at risk of losing the whole tooth when the infection spreads under the filling.
Reversible? No. The only thing you can reverse is demineralisation, not caries. Caries in the very early stages may be arrested (stopped from progressing) but they certainly cannot be reversed. Please get a filling before you end up with a grossly decayed tooth that will end up needing to be extracted.
@@Miss_you_meow Calm down girly I wasn’t replying to your comment as you can see by the fact that I didn’t tag you. I hope you don’t have such bad manners with your patients in the chair.
That ain't small nor conservative, it's drilled wayyyy deeper than needed , there's not a single restoration out there than can replace natural tooth structure so preserve as much as possible for goodness sake
Question: i had a small cavity filled exactly 1 month ago and it still hurts. I went in twice and they adjusted it a lil and said it’s normal for it to hurt for 2 months😐 is that true?
Also the 2nd time a went in was just a few days ago and the doctor flossed inbetween my teeth where the cavity was filled to test it and my gum became inflamed and started bleeding and it was very painful. Is this normal?
Maybe see another dentist? I had large cavities filled and it didn't hurt after it was done. It was sore for a bit but not really longer than a day or two.
I have holes in my teeth on both sides, I didn't realize it because I didn't take care of myself when I was little. Even now I feel scared if I don't have to go to the dentist, I hope I get a fainting injection IM SO SCARED but I need it 😭😭😭
if you have caries and just left it ther,. it'll getting worse. and the worst part is that if caries went down to the root canal, not only more painful but the root canal treatment would cost like 10 times more expensive than filling.
I had a cavity this size once, but I don’t think as deep. They used a white filling on it, and idk what went wrong but it didn’t stick, so it became very painful to chew on that side. They fixed it up a few weeks later, but omg that was a pain 😂😅
I have a question, is it normal for people that have a history with sensitive teeth, or Acid Reflux to develop more cavities? Because I get one every year I floss, mouthwash and brush most of the time. I try my best to eat healthy as well.
Yes, the acid is abrasive on enamel and its easier for bacteria to form cavities and get in deep. Happened with me. Get acid reflux treatment or use antacid often
@@samikshakemwal664 ok thanks for that. I literally had such a bad time with cavities when I was young because of my acid reflux now it’s just sometimes there sometimes not. So it’s a concern for sure.
Just in case you're not aware, it's also best to limit certain foods with acid reflux. Acidic foods like tomatoes, citrus, and coffee. As well as spicy foods, red meat, and very sugary foods (sodas, syrups, etc) are also best avoided. Also avoid eating too close to bed and try to sleep with your upper body elevated a little. Some people are able to go back on such foods after going a while without. Wish you the best :) Both of my brothers struggle with acid reflux, so I know it's tough.
My Doc likes to use a 330 (pear) bur for starting most of our restorations. Its so so cool to watch these videos and see my favorite procedures even closer (and clearer!)
Yes you certainly know when you have a cavity because it feels like someone has stabbed you in the brain when certain foods touch that tooth you also feel pain when drinking hot or cold drinks and lay down in bed at night you get throbbing pain that wont go away
your tooth will either ache for a while or it might hurt to chew on things. Depending on where it is, you might even be able to see it. Consider yourself lucky to never have had a cavity. I’ve had too many. Keep up good hygiene!
Hi doctor I had interdental filling between 12,13. Before having filling i never had pain nor sensitivty but I have been feeling pain and pressure from the filling area to right side of my head. The pain is not like when I chew sth and there is a pain and it wakes me up in the middle of night no it is not like that. I feel like the pain and pressure spreads from the filling area to the right side of my head. I feel pressure in the filling area why?It is like sth stuck between my tooth and it makes pressure. The doctor wanted periodental xray and she said that filling looks fine and it is not close to the nerve of the tooth. Why might I have that problem?
I have a cavity that is this small but not very deep so I went to my orthodontist to get it removed, she said it was better off if I just left it because apparently the filling makes it more likely for the tooth to get another cavity. She told me to “take care of it and brush regularly”. I brush my teeth 3 times a day because I have invisalign treatment but I can see that the cavity has gotten bigger. Should I see a different orthodontist?
@joycethedentist I have a crack in a large filling I had done from years ago and was told I need a crown done ...leery and scared of the pain that may occur...if I bite too hard on the tooth it hurts extremely bad😮😮😮
bro my dentist the numbed me 20 seconds before they started she said put your hand up if you feel anything i felt it all it didnt hurt that bad just felt like someone using a laser cutting my tooth if you understand but i didnt wanna be the person to stop the whole thing and make them wait
