So we thought we would show you how to do it, so you can keep your shock feeling plush for longer.
It’s literally a 10 minute job and if done routinely cut can really save you some cash.
🛠️ What’s needed?
- A vice is preferable (although if you haven’t got one you can leave the top of the shock attached to the bike to help remove the air can)
- Plastic pick (to ensure you don’t scratch anything if you are removing the seals)
- Suspension specific grease (we use Slick Honey but any quality suspension grease is fine)
- Shock specific service kit (if it needs seals replacing, these kits also often come with the float fluid)
- Strap wrench (helps to remove the air can if it is on tight)
- Paper towel and isopropyl alcohol
Step 1
Clean the exterior of the shock, this stops any dirt being dragged in as you remove the air can
Step 2
Take note of the current pressure. Remove the air slowly with a suspension pump. Remove the pump then depress the valve with your plastic pick to ensure 100% of the air is removed
Step 3
Remove the air can. Turn it anticlockwise to remove. If it’s tight you may need to use a strap wrench to help with this.
Step 4
Clean the inside of the shock both inside the air can and around the shaft etc. check all the seals for damage and replace them all if necessary.
Step 5
Re grease the seals on the seal head and the air can. Pop a small amount of fox float fluid inside the air can
Step 6
Push the air can back on and thread clockwise to re attach. This only needs to be hand tight. No need to go overboard.
Step 7
Pump it back up to the pressure you desire. Give it another quick clean.
Step 8
Pop it back in your bike and go shredding!
