Boooo! What is this crap? I wanted to see "Cautiously driving my GT3 on my way to grab coffee with my generationally-wealthy friend who doesn't work and has a GT3RS" with plenty of b-roll footage going 32 mph spliced in.

Everyone thinks they want a GT or RS car for the road.... I personally want nothing to do with them. The goal is never to see how fast you can go, it's just to enjoy the drive. Currently considering a 1960's Fiat 500 or MiniCooper with like 40hp...
@@DasCaymanI bought an M2 CS, and agree 100%, 450hp is already too much for the road. 1st and 2nd gear are useless, and 3rd pull puts me in jail. I’m actually jealous of OG M2 on mountain roads, you get to use the whole rpm range (bonus point; they sound better). I’m often up shifting to be in a less powerful power band. I was looking into an E36 M3 or 964, but you make me consider a base Boxster/Cayman, even an S2000 would be awesome. 400+ hp cars are great for top speed and highway pulls, but that’s not what I enjoy, I love ripping it in the mountains. I know it’s a Porsche channel, but if you ever film the same road with an M2 don’t be shy to post it, would be awesome to see what you can do with it.
@@DasCayman Im an F56 Cooper S owner and its lots of fun, if youre willing to have a less reliable, slower but more fun mini though get the R53 Cooper S, throw on some mods and enjoy that beautiful supercharger whine
I bought a 986 Boxster S in September of last year and it has changed my life. The car has 160k miles on it and I bought it for $5k USD. I drive that thing constantly and do all the work on it myself. Cheap "unloved" Porsches are the way to go. They are the best driver's cars out there, because you can actually drive them instead of worry about them all the time.
@@ridge9066 The mileage probably. I got my 90k mile non-S for $9k and I'm thinking that was a bad price (rebuilt title). But for driving pleasure, it was a bargain.
Sometimes the best cars are the cheap ones that can't depreciate anymore and you don't have to worry about. I have a 911 with 150,000 miles on it and I consider it "free" at this point other than tires, gas, and oil.
@@ridge9066 Mostly the previous owner. Supposedly, the guy had helped his friend buy it, but then there was some drama and he took ownership. He was a big boy and didn't fit very well so wanted to sell it. The car was originally listed for $9,500, then reduced down to $6,000 before I talked him down to $5,000. It looked like it was in really rough shape but after a quick wash it isn't too bad! A few paint chips here and there but it runs great!
@@DasCayman My thoughts exactly! I'll likely never sell this car, but if I do I know I won't lose money outside of the cost to repair things that go wrong. Thankfully, I have a second car and a bit of a stubborn streak so when things do go wrong, and they already have, I just throw it up on jack stands and get to work. I've never had a project car before but the best time to learn is when you have a specific goal in mind. Right after I bought it the car needed a new wheel bearing. Took me forever but I did it myself.
First time here (From the UK) . Just like to say it’s refreshing to see a RU-vid channel with someone that actually has driving ability. And drives safely but on the limit.
This is the thinking that I've taken on board for the past several years having higher HP cars. I always go back to what I love and truly enjoy and that is my 1996 Viper with a full system, tune, bushings, fresh mounts etc. The visceral nature of how this car feels in your hands is hands down the best in my book for what I personally want in a sports car. This varies from person to person. A 3000ish pound 2 seat sports car with 400-500 hp is the perfect amount of power/weight for spirited street driving. The engine noise is key but the feel of the chassis in your hands is what I've come to find as paramount.
Thoroughly thoroughly! Enjoyed this video.I've been looking for this video on RU-vid for so long and no one made it. Seeing a boxster at the top of its true potential as a drivers car is so refreshing to see. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is the best bang for your bucks pure driving experience out there..
The Boxster is the best value mid engine car with an exotic engine sound. 👌Totally agree with not needing a GT3 for public roads, though the same can be said about the Spyder; a Boxster S is less than half the price of a Spyder with the same engine and no-stress roof, and you can argue that there's still too much speed so base models are not out of the question. A 986 is less than half of a 987 again, and it's a car that's been raced in motorsport for ages. To be fair, purely on engagement and fun on the road at legal speeds, a Miata is still the answer. It all comes down to what makes a car fun for you.
@@TexasRiverRat31254 I've driven an ND Miata a couple times. They are so engaging due to the swingy chassis and skinny tires in low speeds, it just doesn't work that well at a track. I picked a 987.2 Boxster S over the Miata for the engine, and for track and autocross.
@@stevexspeed7649 Don't think I will ever part company with my 981 Spyder. In the UK, the 718 Spyder prices are only now about £15k more than a 981 Spyder's...But I don't think i would trade mine in even if they were at parity.
I appreciate that! Thank you for the feedback! Just my honest thoughts and impressions. Car is really fun, visceral, and special every time it goes out....
This video had my heart racing!! Hadn’t felt this feeling in a long time, maybe since being exposed to Misha on the ring years ago! Great driving, brother!
@@DasCayman I think its not necessarily a bad thing. 2nd gear goes up to 108km/h in my 987.2 Boxter. Just sometimes it feels very weary to go down to 1st gear in winding alpine roads.
Awesome driving and awesome setup on your cars man. You have found what most never seem to find and it's that sweet spot of chassis, sound, power and capability. Once you find that it's like finding Atlantis for car nuts. I love seeing people that understand it's not all about numbers on a page but the overall package that gives a special experience that HP simply cannot achieve alone.
Wooo man I love that sound! Bought a 997 C2 base a long time ago and USE IT. 97,000 miles now and paint is beat up but I’ve checked just about every bucket list experience with it off. Love the idea of open air mid engine Porsche street monster
Hell yeah! I have a 997 C2S Cab that I daily drive and it has 150,000 miles on it if you can believe! The miles are all "free" now. I take it on 4 hour trips to the beach and back with not a care in the world. Thanks for the comment and sharing!
Just got my first Porsche - manual 987.2 Boxster S for 40k, black on black Cayman R wheels. Not gonna lie, your videos helped me making this decision. Pure driving pleasure.
I get absolutely BLASTED by driving like this on public roads from viewers so I stopped doing it. Good on you for continuing doing your thing without giving into the nerds commenting negative things. That aside, I can vicariously live through you and that’s awesome! Great video!
Thank you bro... it's a really tough balance... like.. my goal here is never speeding... or to show how fast I can go on the road (I'll never advocate for senseless speeding)...it's rather to show what this car is 'actually' like to drive. Too many journalists made us believe that a Boxster couldn't be fun or wasn't a good performing car. I'm just trying to right the ship. My dream car would have all the fun of the Spyder and top out at 40mph... lol. I'm considering my next purchase to be a 1960's mini cooper with like 30HP... Appreciate the support. Most of this channel is 90% How-To videos for car owners and how to work on your own car. Every now and then I'll do a POV just to add to the library. I really wish my How-To's did as well as my POV's lmao
@@DasCayman yeah man, I feel that. Creating content is tough to capture a good audience unless you’re doing sideshows or ‘swimming’ through traffic. I went from an M2C to my Miata and it’s just so much more fun! Yeah, having a fast car is great fun but driving something with less power and less weight is soooo much more rewarding. Really separates the great drivers from the decent.
If I may just jump in… don’t know if you’ve considered a car like a bmw 2002. It’s a small sporty coupe that only has 100 hp base model and can be lots of fun. I recently just bought one and have started restoring it because I really like “driving a slow car fast”. I picked up this addiction from my e30 (kind of a slow car). Honestly a car that is slower and more manageable can be lots of fun in real life driving day to day. Just something you might look into!
@@trevorjordan5349 I’ve always had the opinion that if you can’t have fun in 50bhp then 500 isn’t gonna help you. Pushing a slow car fast is more fun than barely pushing a fast car because of road limitations. I’d say the one exception is track specific applications. I have a 1.8 Eunos Roadster and on the roads it’s the most fun car I’ve driven. But on the odd occasion I’ve driven on track I’ve felt like I wanted a little more power because the visibility and run off areas allow for full extraction of performance of the car. I’m not saying it’s not fun on track it definitely is. But I also think more powerful cars can be equally as fun on track where you can really push the limits without the looming danger of crashing into a tree or another car filled with a family.
also....The 986 S (3.2) shouldn't be ignored for those without Spyder budgets. A truly capable car. Porsche got it so right with the first gen Boxster's....i would though only consider the 3.2 for that N/A Porsche experience.
Porsche got it so right they decided to ditch their best product because they are now a lifestyle brand... Can't afford a cheap high quality for the peasants. Huge mistake. As their EV products depreciate over 50% in a year the older Porsche 718 will appreciate LOL
DUDE! I always said 981 GTS manual Boxster is such a BUY. It's a car with no compromise and really does it all. They are super rare and hard to find, but for the right price I 100% support that decision and would be super jealous!
You nailed the sentiment, that’s for sure! I’ll take the minimalist approach to get maximum fun - all day long! It’s arguable that you don’t even need a Spyder or S or even mods to have a ton of fun. Nice job editing out crossing the Double Yellows - I saw what you did there! 😎
A glitch in the matrix! And yeah, you don't need the S or Spyder if you're not exercising them either...It's crazy how people underestimate how fast they are when setup. Slow car fast > fast car slow.
Love my 2012 Cayman Black Edition, great daily, size is perfect for canyons, I've been able to keep up with Viper ACR, lamborghini, etc because they're too big on smaller country roads. Don't go to car meets events either, I'm here for the drive. Randomly meeting another Cayman and blasting through the canyons was the best time.
One of my favorite things to do is NOT go to c *cks and coffee, but just go to my countryside cafe instead. All the people with Porsches and motorcycles rip these roads all the time and it's just so fun to run into another enthusiast, shoot the shit, have an espresso, make a new friend and go for a drive. It's like our mini version of Newcomb's ranch. Sounds like you're living the highlife in your 987.2, love to see that. We are torn from the same cloth my friend! My freinds in GT4RS' or GT3RS have a hard time keeping up with me. It's all down to the driver. And it's just sad when these rich guys buy these uber performance cars and don't even know how to drive...
Man, i enjoy watching your POVs so much. Great driving, great sound and just a dream car. Its stuff like this that motivates me to keep going. Keep it up!
Bro… the OG Gumball 3000 videos from the early 2000’s were my motivation. Seeing everyone blast across Europe in Enzo’s and Carrera GT’s was my inspiration. Last year I got to check off a 20 year dream of mine. Happy I can add to the drive for others. It’s nice to work hard for stuff, and often the chase can be more fun than the reward. Cheers my friend
Thank you for the feedback and comment! Love me a GT3, great cars. Just too fast for the backroads. I’d be more akin to get the GT / RS stuff if I lived next to a racetrack. Love the red 991.2. Is it manual?
Watching for Europe. You convinced me to do a test drive and maybe buy one. Looking forward to it. Does this car have a stock exhaust? I remember your other video about the flywheel change, looks like it makes the car even better! Thank you for your amazing content! :)
Hey! Currently working with an exhaust manufacturer right now, would you be interested in it? Trying to gauge interest :) The flywheel was probably one of my favorite mods to the car tbh... And greetings from Europe! Was there a little over a year ago for the first time in my life doing Euro delivery of a 4RS and a voyage with it to the Nurburgring. Truly the absolute time of my life. And I have zero regrets on the Spyder... just a few choice mods and it's so good... couldn't be happier! Thanks for the comment, really enjoy reading these and getting feedback!
@@DasCayman So exciting! Yes I'd definitely be interested in a good exhaust if/when I buy a Spyder! :) Been looking around, supply here is very limited and the majority have PDK. Bucket seats are also very rare in the cars for sale. I could live without bucket seats but not without a manual :) Busy summer ahead so will just keep an eye out for new listings. Thank you for your reply. So glad I found your channel. Most channels like to talk talk but not drive the cars like they should be driven. Keep it up!
Soul Exhaust? Self Incriminating Footage? Driving like hell? SATISFACTORY! This is the content I appreciate. I wish for your channel to grow. I would also like to see these cars gatekept for as long as possible. Only the truly curious and devoted deserve to own these cars. These should not be for everyone so the prices remain low for those who deserve them. Get one of these engines built by FSI or BBI and (hot take) a GT3 is no longer an aspiration, just an easy way out for those who don't want to deal with these gens and their motors (excluding 9a1's ig). Keep it up! 👍
Ha! I'd love for my channel to grow too. Trying to do it in a "holistic" way without the seeminly banzai POV's but...yeah... I agree with what you said though! There are so many of these RS / GT cars at cars and coffee that get turned on, driven 5 miles, turned off, driven 5 miles back home and then put away for another 7 days. I just don't get it... I also have NO IDEA why people would ever want their engine built up by BBi or DeMan? The power even on these non-RS / GT cars is plenty, especially the modern stuff. Maybe those people live in FL or Texas where all they have are straight roads? I'm really appreciating the 9A1 engine too. It's such a cherry. This channel is putting the Dundon intake runners on the Spyder and trying to replicate MotoIQ's rig he did on his 987.2 Cayman S. Would rather the 987.2 Spyder for backroad use over the new Spyder RS (which we are picking up in June!) Thanks for the comment and feedback btw, trying to build rapport with my audience! Appreciate you!
@@DasCayman Right on, GT Porsches are style cars nowadays. God forbid you drive one aggressively. While you have a point that the power is plenty enough on non GT cars. At least for M9X cars I personally would rebuild to address all the failure points. Any power gained would be a bonus rather than a requirement. For 9a1/2 engines rebuilding them just for straight power is redundant unless you are making a killer track car. Enjoy the RS Spyder! Wish those came with mt but Porsche hates the Cayman/Boxster platform. They wait until after the dwb 992 GT3 to release the 4RS/RS Spyder. Gotta make sure the 911 is steps ahead before the rational sports car gets what it deserves.. 🙄
@@stotle263 Really well said. You know your stuff. I agree with the comment on the 9A1/2. I couldn't imagine getting a $20-30k engine rebuild for more power. Just not needed... unless we are all on the track racing for large sums of $$$.
I really appreciate that! I was in Eze a little over a year ago while doing Euro delivery in a GT4RS. Absolutely loved it… thanks again for the feedback / comment. Means a lot to me. These cars are around $70-95k in USA depending on mileage for a manual with carbon bucket seats.
Your picture should say 'Boxster is the answer... IF you have extra money' OBVIOUSLY every Miata owner would have gotten a nice Boxster Spyder (or any Boxster) instead but there is a HUGE price difference. I got my used 2017 Miata for only $18k because that's all that I could afford and I can easily work on it myself and parts are cheap. We would all love Boxsters but the early ones can have issues (definitely won't be as reliable as a modern Miata) and are a bit dated now and ALL Boxsters are more difficult and expensive to work on yourself so it's much more likely you'll need to take it to Porsche for any work and pay insane prices. Miata is still the answer here. Now, having said that, the Boxster Spyder is incredible and you really don't need any more power than that to enjoy on the street. I would certainly have that over any other $100k-ish car. Like, why would anyone buy an old E-Gear Gallardo over this. The Boxster with its rear haunches behind the seats also just looks fantastic and you got it in the best color too. Black, Red, White just don't look as good as silver on this car.
Thank you for the comment! What I like about my Spyder is that it shares the exact same interior as the 997.2 GT3RS. So it’s all the same. Whereas a Miata wouldn’t be. Then you still are in a Porsche with its great suspension and flat six howl. Not knocking the Miata, really love those cars. But for someone who’s already saved $100k towards their $300k purchase I’d ask them to consider hoping off the train and giving a 987.2 Spyder with a few choice mods a try first :)
The 986 S (3.2) shouldn't be ignored. A truly capable car. Porsche got it so right with the first gen Boxster's....i would though only consider the 3.2 for that N/A Porsche experience.
Appreciate what you have. At least your miata is fun at any speed. Here in europe that boxster would be impounded immediately for speeding 😂 Also that parking lot in Mexico is non existent in Europe. I’m always stuck in traffic 😢
@Scifo321 yeah that's how I try to live my life is just appreciate what I do have. The Miata is a sweet little car and good to practice on before stepping up to something more powerful. I always dreamt of owning a nice used exotic but now that I'm nearly 40 years old, I'm running out of time to save up lol. Next best thing would be an Alfa 4C Spyder.
Hi, if you're new to the channel, please consider subscribing! Would really love to review new Porsches at the factory and that would help me get there!
Dang man great video. I have a 981 cayman I spent 45 grand on barely used and I drive it like you drive your spider whenever the right or open road allows. I was gonna spend more on something else and I’m so glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have been dailying a more expensive variant. Thing rips and is still faster than most cars on the road, handles like a dream. Front bumper is peppered and I daily drive it, messed with an e46 m3 this morning on my way to work and we had a blast. All smiles at 5am driving into work… I have no interest in any other car, as you said, why the hell do I need a car any quicker and why the hell would I want a car that would cost a fortune in depreciation to actually use and enjoy and still be worrying about all the time. Good stuff man, u said it better than I could 👌🏼

Wow thanks Joe, I really appreciate that! Thanks for subscribing btw. Trying to make content that people enjoy watching. What did you like about the video so much?
Love the car, nice driving. I had a 2005 997.1 Carrera S manual for a while, 355hp was more than enough power combined with the lightness. Bit of a pendulum effect sometimes and had to get used to how light front end was. My driving skills nowhere near as good as yours obviously. Nice upload.
Hey thanks! I really appreciate the feedback. I have a 997.1 2008 C2S cab that’s my daily and it has plenty of power. Really nice package. I call it my “wine cruiser.” Since it’s a cab the suspension doesn’t like to be pushed as hard as my Spyder. 150,000 miles and going strong!
Your a driver my friend and a brother from another no doubt. Having said that all I can say is your outlook is spot on and you MUST get a Gen2 Viper. The purest of the pure and nothing like it although your Spyder with how you have it setup does closely resemble the drive you get. Just add double the torque and tire, take away some of the interior quality (most of it) and to me the road presence of 7 figure Supercars for 50k. It's why I'm on my 8th Viper at age 38. They have ruined me for driving purity it's impossible to go back. Tried 911 Turbo and even Gen 5 Viper but nothing compares to the great ones.
Man I found your channel a few months ago and I’ve been searching for a boxster since then. These cars seem so nimble and agile while still having plenty power. Your control over the car is super fun to watch as well and makes me really want a rwd car rn. Just wanna say great vids, driving, car, keep it up.
I’m going to print all these comments out and frame them. Thank you so much for the feedback and watching. It’s worth the hunt, and often the hunt is the most fun part! Don’t settle too much for the spec. For example pdk vs manual. These cars ‘need’ to be manual.
@@DasCayman it’s seriously addicting watching your videos. I remember the first one I found I had to go through your channel afterwards. Definitely only looking for manual. I’m going to wait for the perfect spec, 2011-2012 preferably. Not planning on dailying it (but maybe). Do you have any experience with dailying it or is this a weekend car?
@@benhamann9610 Hell yeah! I don't daily mine only because I have like 5 other cars I can drive. I tried to make this a point A to point A car. I have a Lexus LS and a 911 C2S Cab that I take to work for my highway commute. But if you get a non-Spyder then the roof won't be a faff (I don't mind it). Really all these cars are daily-able unless you put a crazy stiff suspension on it and slam it. I'll try to keep making more of these. The people love them idk why though! Any insight?
@@DasCayman haha that’s fair! If I had a quiver of vehicles like that I would have a hard time deciding what to drive lol. Glad to hear about the roof and suspension. I’ve heard these are fairly reliable as well, not sure if that’s been the case for you or not. I love the pov driving and chatting while whipping through the country side. I’m having a hard time wording this because I think the quality is good in your videos already. However, sound especially is something that could really transform them. Binaural audio, etc. Audio stuff has such a high ceiling that you might be able find something not outrageously expensive. That’s really all I can think of off the top of my head.
This is exactly how I’ve grown to be at 30 years old too , each passing month I appreciate my 318i e36 more and more, it may be slow but as long as it handles fun which it does it’s on coils and as long as it climbs the power band with no hiccups I’m insanely happy haha just to appreciate it as a slow fun driving machine , although I bought a 6 cylinder e36 out of my wrecker last week tho for 300 Canadian and drove it home 😅 I still want to keep and spruce up the m42 though
I can definitely say that this is great just seeing people enjoying their cars and not leaving them in their garage because they are afraid of a rock chip or a bug getting squashed on their windshield. Have fun rip it enjoy it that’s what cars are for.
It's weird because all of these one-takes that Farrah does in CA are mega speeds... but never any POV of what it's like to drive. Then Tedward and Topher do POV, go over 100mph but it seems like we never get a feeling of what it's actually like to drive.... Appreciate the feedback!
Awesome video! When the R35 GTR first came out, a friend bought one. I went to go see and drive it one day, pretty cool! I got back in my car a 2007 WRX STi, I realized that GTR is not for me. It felt heavy, numb (I probably wasn’t going fast enough). On the other hand in the STi, I just wanted to do point a to point a drives all the time. It was a blast every time.
0:00 "at what point do I need to go faster than that" Jeremy Clarkson's review of the 928 gives me a general reason why I would. People forget why some build fast cars.
I love my slightly modded 600whp C7 Z06. The problem is there is so much traffic anymore that I can get on it MAYBE once a month. You're at straight to jail speeds in 10 seconds. I miss my STI where you could get through some gears.
Dude, you are one heck of a driver. Those downshifts are very crispy, and for some of us, we use cars as intended. If I ever get the chance to own a GT3, no one will see me, they'll hear me instead.
Thank you so much for the feedback. It’s always my dream to be hiking in these areas and hear me approach from a mile away and then hear it go by…. Super fun car to drive. I grew up on Euro 997 / 996 GT3 Cup rally videos
fun watching you drive the car. I feel the same, I still cant afford the Porsche, but I bought a civic SI that I've been thrashing at the track and street. easy and cheap to work on, and who needs to go 150+ mph when your ripping through turns using all the gears.
You get it! I used to have a little Fiesta ST back in the day... gutted it from the driver seat backwards and tuned it. It was 2500lb and 300HP/TQ. Absolute riot to drive on the backroads... sold it for $10k. Miss that car a lot. I even put WRC spec rally lights on the front so I could drive at 2am when no one else was on the road. Good living.
That is one, no many giant buckets of unadulterated FUN! ... & it looks like you know your car 😁 I only had enough for my IS350 daily & needs more than a few mods to feel right in the triple digits! One day I'll have a weekend car.
the power output of cars from the early to late 2000's is perfect, I own an E46 M3 and that thing is still doing a 4.5 0-60... compare that to a lot of newer entry level sports cars and its faster or as fast. the ~300hp and ~300ft lbs is a general sweet spot for a sports car and a lot of the cars from two decades ago in that realm are at a good low, sure the maintenance costs are higher but you are getting a hell of a deal for the performance
