Hey everyone, check out my race POV at the Broadway Bomb yesterday!
I came 24th, but excluding those DQed, from not wearing a helmet or not starting at the bottom of the hill, I came 15th. I’m really proud of my place even tho I died a little halfway from a sore back, due to not training much this year. But back to the gym and back to skating we go, shooting for top 10 next year!!!
This was the Broadway Bomb in New York City, NY, taking place at 12:00 on October 22nd 2023.

Cool event, hoping to join next year's Broadway Bomb! Why was this event on a SUN instead of SAT though? I see there was some confusion online and that there were two separate events, one on SAT and one on SUN?

Okay so basically, the short answer is, it rained out on Saturday, and the rain date was Sunday. Historically, the rules are if it rains on Saturday the race moves to Sunday, if it rains on Sunday it moves to the next Saturday, and so on, and so fourth. There was a lot of confusion because it took a while for the founder and subsequently the official channels and pages to announce the rain date. A person/page that is not in charge of the event, but tries and claims to be, threw an event on Saturday. They also have the @ for broadwaybomb unfortunately, leading to a lot of misinformation and confusion. Follow @nylongboardassociation and @nycbroadwaybomb on IG for official updates on future events. Regarding why we don’t race in the rain: it’s a race. People want to do their best in optimal conditions. And it’s a push race, so our method of braking is foot braking. Rain prevents that and prevents turning on a dime, because you’ll slip out. The race is already one of the most dangerous skate events in the world, one of the tag lines is literally, “you could die.” There were hundreds of people there this year, some years there are thousands. That many people already is a hazard, especially at the start, and adding rain into the mix just amplifies it tenfold. Hope I could clear up some confusion!

@linpaul Thanks for clearing up the confusion. Heard about the drama and saw the unofficial race on SAT (but thought it to be too small and odd - giving rise to some suspicion that it may not be official). And thanks again for letting me know what the official channels are, that's really helpful as an outsider who might fly in specifically to participate in NYC Broadway Bomb to ensure I have the correct event. Totally understand about the rain! I have experience in such weather conditions, but respect other racers and participants who might not (or are unwilling) to risk unforseen injury. Hope to see you @ one of the races and/or NYC social push whenever I'm in the area. I've got no socials, but I know yours and will introduce myself again once I'm committed to an event.

@@linpaul That person also has been getting city permits for a "skate parade" the last 3 years so I'm assuming he was basically stuck with Saturday. That person not only creates confusion but I also argue that he actually is putting people in danger. He claims the event is sanctioned with police blocking off roads, but there is no actual "skate parade" and the race obviously isn't sanctioned and no way will the police close off 8.5 miles, for anything! He's also not very smart for his own good because he's making himself criminally liable for any injury or death that may [god forbid] ever occur by putting his name all over this event and getting these permits. He's defrauding not only the skaters but also the city and the police.
