Originally dispatched for a MVA with multiple rolled vehicles including fire and entrapment and involving all four lanes of the interstate. Within 7 minutes of the original dispatch, our Rescue, Tanker, Engine and Brush trucks were out the door, with two personnel responding POV. Within 10 minutes of dispatch, Rescue was on scene. As I approached the exit for our Main Station, Knowing that 4 of our trucks were either on scene or en route, I contacted my Chief (on Rescue truck, which was first on scene) to determine whether I needed to continue to scene or hold at station. The MVA turned out to only involve the southbound lanes but did have two vehicles. A Dodge Ram truck had rolled over into the median and rested on the cable barrier. The second vehicle was a 4-door hatchback on fire in the ditch on the shoulder. Negative entrapment on both vehicles. The fire was quickly extinguished, all patients were treated and/or transported and all units cleared within an hour. Three apparatuses (1 each from 3 depts) from the primary county responded and were on scene.
This section of interstate only has two exits and both are 7 miles apart, with the county line between them.

You definitely drive like someone who has run those runs a thousand times over. Knowing exactly where to speed up, slow down, or stop to be safe. Not to mention great use of the different sirens you have for different situations. Roads like that are definitely a while different breed to run fast and safe at the same time.

You’re right about the wide angle camera. I have had a lot of complaints about driving “to fast” because my pov is a red pickup with a decently loud exhaust which makes people think I’m driving fast. After my first complaint I got a dash cam that shows my gps speed. The wide angle makes me look like I’m going 200MPH while I’m only going 75-85 mph in our 75 speed limit zones. That dash cam made everyone get off my ass. 😂

@@firefightingtexan5860 Sure it seems like a great idea until you are in an accident and your company or municipality bails on you for insurance coverage and then your personal insurance says sorry we don't cover doing emergency response. I have had to drive Code 3 on some mountain “ pig trails” roads. He looked to me to be avoiding low lying tree limbs that should have been trimmed long before. Also, this driver knows his roads, his area of response. If you notice where there were no limbs hanging down low he stayed in his lane. He changed the siren tone for the most at least 200 feet before intersection making a turn and also to help better get the traffics attention. Even with this some still did not pull to the right of the road. You always have to be prepared to go around these people in a SAFE MANNER. I saw nothing incorrect they he did concerning this. There was a couple of times he should have changed siren tones a little sooner. He didn’t change it back until he crossed over the intersection….Over all I think he did a decent job getting to the station. He never came close to causing an accident. With this footage We have to keep Narrow Roads, Low Lying tree limbs and weather conditions in mind when running Code to an incident!

@@spydermedic1769 why as a POV do you run sirens presuming light package as well?
@spydermedic1769
@spydermedic1769 4 года назад
@@colinnickerson4846 I do have a light package along with the siren. In West Virginia, Volunteer Firefighters and Volunteer EMT/Medics are authorized to run lights and sirens with the approval of the VFD Chief and State Fire Marshall. The Fire Marshall issues a decal to that member, which is the same given to all Fire Apparatuses. My VFD also has primary response on 5 miles of interstate and many times members have to go POV to scene. My light package was purposefully designs to have 360 deg coverage so that when on any roads, I am visible and if someone were to hit my vehicle, they wont have to excuse that they didnt see me. With my particular VFD, as with many other VFDs, our response area is large and our members are spread out amongst the area. Many of us do not live close enough to station to make a truck. Most of our trucks are 2 or 3-man cabs, as well. And the size of our trucks is limited to the size of our stations. I am also one of only 2 firefighters that run first response to most EMS calls. Also, state law states that you are required to have at least one forward facing red light with an audible siren.

@spydermedic1769
@spydermedic1769 5 лет назад
All of my speeds were under the authorized limits under WV law and none of my driving was unsafe. The wide angle lens of the camera and narrow roads make it look like I am going much faster than I really am. Also, I have had Advanced Driving courses, similar to police and special forces/security forces receive, so I know how to handle my vehicle a lot more than your typical first responder. I never made a move unless I had good visibility of the road ahead or overtook a vehicle with that vehicle first acknowledging, slowing down and pulling to the right. The camera does not give you the same perspective that the driver has. But thank you for contributing your two cents and keep playing your video games.

I am approximately 10-15 mins from main station and 5 mins from one of two substations. Unfortunately, I am unable to drive any of the trucks, yet, or I wouldve grabbed a truck from the substation. And due to the location of the call and all of the trucks from main station responding, taking a truck from the substation would not be good if we had a call on that side of the response area.

samantha Marcum Rodriguez probably poor emergency lighting. Didn’t see any reflections in the road signs and a siren is only so good. At highway speeds it is easy to outrun the sound and at intersections if there is no lighting to the sides nobody will know where it is coming from.
@spydermedic1769
@spydermedic1769 4 года назад
@@bradwright7109 The emergency lighting on my vehicle is bright and very noticeable. During the daylight, you arent going to see the reflections as much. And on the interstate, a lot of drivers tend to speed up and stay ahead of you or just dont pay attention. They also get confused when any emergency vehicles are on the interstate and then want to use the exit ramps. I see it all the time when driving an ambulance or the firetrucks, drivers see the flashing lights and get stupid.

@spydermedic1769
@spydermedic1769 4 года назад
@@NPNPaganArtistSpotlight By West Virginia State Code, you are required to have, at a minimum, one forward facing red flashing light and an audible siren. And going 40-50 mph on the secondary roads is not outrunning the sirens, especially when you are directly behind someone. On the interstate, that is a differently story and that is what the flashing lights are for. Also, by law, all Fire and EMS personnel are submit an application through their respective Chief and the State Fire Marshall's office to receive permission to have their emergency lighting. You receive a Fire Apparatus decal, same as for firetrucks and most ambulances, and you are granted all the same privileges as any other fire apparatus. All vehicles are required to yield and we are authorized to go through red lights and stop signs with due regard. West Virginia also allows responding units to travel no faster than 10 mph over the speed limit.
