I had this one boss… he didnt do anything, didnt answer questions. Didnt help. Didnt offer guidance. Would do absolutely nothing. And then would criticize our work so he could look like he was doing something
If they are having you sign off on your hours it probably means the Department of Labor has already been by because of complaints about working off the clock.
Funny that they have the time to gripe about what someone else hasn't done. The same time they're bothering someone else, they could have spent finishing their own job.
I've literally done this and had HR stand up for the employer (we were told to clock out for lunch, but we had patient appointments scheduled over lunch). HR works for the employer, not for workers. Go straight to the state labor board and file a claim for wage theft.

New York City Department of Education would do this to us all the time. They’d either partially pay us or not pay us at all. One year the payroll manager didn’t get the payroll completed so there was no paycheck a few days before Christmas. I don’t work for them anymore.
My son had a manager who would do that crap all the time to him. She would schedule him and then ask him to work extra hours, then deduct those hours from his next schedule, then ask him to work the hours that were left off of his schedule. He went for over a month before his actual money caught up in his paycheck and he got shorted on overtime because she cheated him out of it. He was working 45 to 50 hours a week and was supposed to be paid overtime, but she fuxd around with his schedule, and he was paid his regular hourly instead of the overtime he was owed. When he complained, she fired him and blackballed him from the company.
As an old guy fortunate to never work in the corporate world I had one belief that I kept through decades of work and that was to never work for assholes.
At my job we have to sign off on payroll every other Sunday. We review the hours we worked and signing off says "Yep, these hours are right" so if you sign off and are short, management can say you've approved your payroll so the hours must be correct
Alot of time apps have you approve your hours before submitting I've been in a few contractor positions where the Forman records your hours and you have to sign off before it is submitted
It happens at companies that were fined by the Department of Labor for shorting people's pay checks. So to protect themselves from being fined again they have the employees sign a statement declaring that they did get paid for all the hours they worked. Never sign off on less hours than you worked. You are giving them permission to screw you over.
So when comes the episode where Veronica gets tired of being a wage slave and starts her own business? I want to see her dealing with the public and government and suppliers and employees when running her own business.
Trying to survive as a small business owner while all her employees care about are their paychecks and work-life balance, she will become what she swore to destroy.

I had a boss who was always late for work and departments had to submit payroll by a certain time, especially updates if overtime was worked due to emergencies. Those had to be sent by email from the boss. Our payroll clerk got really strict and informed us if it wasn't on time, the employees would get it next week. I sat down and talked to him about it and he casually said, well they'll get it next week. I got angry, put a little bass in my voice (I'm a woman) and respectfully gave him a piece of my mind. They earned it now, they expect it now. We decided that if he didn't get to work on time, he'd trust me to send it from his email.
Clearly the boss DOES have the ability to add those hours, since she's bothering Veronika about not having submitted it yet. That means it's pending, and while it's pending, the boss can change it. So change it.
Ahhh, Misses boss lady, instead of being on the phone with me now, and wasting both of our time, you could just approve the time I worked, (in good faith that I'd be paid for it) instead of dragging your heels, Because I'll remember this the next time you "really need" someone to work
Dont fuck with 3 things PTO Benefits and most of all MOTHER FUCKING MONEY Payroll is one of the most critical processes for a business. Dont pay your employees who are generating all your revenue and wealth, then they dont work. Pay....your....people. all other projects can wait. Even a call with the ceo or a meeting with the board can wait. Pay your people

I think you're awesome, Veronika! I'll bet you don't live in a right to work state because when we try to stand up for ourselves here, we don't get those kinds of responses at all.
I bet she does and they’ve learned they get away with doing what they do to you to her. ‘Cause turns out, firing someone for pointing a pay discrepancy is actually illegal and thus not a fireable offense.
@@black1917 In my case, it was for raising safety issues in a nursing environment... Not just safety issues, because people were actually getting hurt. But of course, they didn't state that as the reason.
@black1917 I contacted a lawyer. I kid you, not. I was told that if I wasn't a white male, I would have a case. Unbelievable!! The lawyer was very apologetic and understanding. But she told me if it wasn't about my civil rights as a minority... Naturally, I couldn't document anything without them exposing patient data. It was my word against theirs. Reporting, it would have done no good. I have a friend who had a job investigating long-term care facilities. I thought that would be my dream job. Until I found out that he was basically powerless to do anything about their shenanigans. It's all about the money.
I'm actually fine if they miss a whole day of pay on my paycheck. If they dont remedy thos by the end of payday, I get an extra 2 hours pay for that day. Then I get 8 hours every day until I am paid in full. And that includes penalties.
This is strange. When I have done timesheets, I complete the timesheet and submit it and then the supervisor approves it. I have time to review her approval before payroll closes, so if there are issues, I can say something.
Veronica would be fired. Sometimes shit happens and hours worked this week have to be paid next week. You don’t hold up payroll for the entire company for one persons 8hrs. If this happens once or twice roll with it. If it’s a constant issue then act like Veronica. Unemployment sucks.
Here in NZ the employer would be fined by the employment tribunal for unjustified dismissal. 'Shit happens' is not a sufficient reason to ignore legally required procedures.
