I'm not a ballet dancer, but I've had to do similar things in musical theater. It's hard to stay still for so long. Even though you may look like you aren't working sometimes, you DEFINITELY are, so props to any dolls in the Nutcracker! (I swear that I looked away for just a day. How does this comment get 1k likes? Haha, I'll take it!
@Umbrella2.0-ol3cy Both are fun! I've been in and out of ballet over the years, mostly just to improve my balance and flexibility. I was REALLY clumsy for most of my life and ballet helped. Never got anywhere near being en pointe, but what I did was fun. Now I just try to keep up my flexibility. It's funny to see people's reactions when I'm just casually doing a middle split as part of my warm ups or doing a death drop. Honestly, I owe a lot of it to my time in ballet even if I haven't done it in years.
I do musical theatre often and it is so difficult to stay still 😭 It's best when you're crouched around someone in a group while they sing at the audience and get their main character moment
@@waffleaffle231 I've had to do that a couple of times... The director would walk around and smack our arms during practice to make sure we didn't have noodle arms and wouldn't move.
@@rosered5485 it's so odd, like who's gonna be running around onstage smacking my arms during the performance? If they're in the right position, leave me alone smh
@@waffleaffle231 Eh, it was just her way of making sure we had strong arms. It wasn't hard enough to hurt. She'd do something similar when practicing dances too. She'd signal to the pianist to stop playing and we all froze in place, in our exact position and hold still. Then she'd walk around, pushing on people's arms to make sure that we were putting strength into our movements. I just got used to it
At my studio we had a nine year old girl do this part and she was like a professional! You should have seen! My mom said she felt bad watching her stay like that for that long 😅😂
i was the doll this year and we had to stand like this while getting rolled out onto a cart. and my costume was really big! i def almost fell off a couple times
flash back to last years nutcracker when i had to hold up my arms for like 2 minutes while clara said goodbye to her party guests, oh and when i had to sit kneeling with my neck bent in the most uncomfortable position until i had to get up without using my hands with only someone helping me up with my shoulders (i’m pretty young so obviously this won’t seem as bad to you guys) 😂
I’m trying out for attendant this year ❤ I can’t wait!!!! I was a soldier 2 years in a row and it was so fun beside the part where I get picked up by mice…
I had it a bit easier this year as a doll (my second time as a doll but first time as the soldier doll) and I was the last one of the three to dance so I was stood behind the doll box for so long and I had to hold my prop, the doll key for uncle, AND catch the rag dolls when they were thrown into the box before it opened. It was a lot and I got so nervous standing back there but it was so much fun!! The worst part was when they decided to put it on wheels bc it broke and the first tech run with the wheels it wasn’t stable standing open on its own and it started falling backwards in me but luckily one of the party dads caught the one side, I caught the other, and my bsf who was a party mom and filling in for the box part bc her “husband” wasn’t there that day caught the other side after I whisper yelled at her😂
I was the Spanish doll in Copelia (sorry if I’ve butchered the spelling) one year and it was HELL…not to mention during the actual show someone puked right in front of me back stage and I had to go in right after and stand still for like 15 minutes 😭
omg in 2019 i was in the nutcracker and the girl who played Columbine Doll got very ill so i had to learn the choreo and sub for her. With that combined i had to do doll and snow 😭
Bro i just had my arms in fourth with my left leg just bend out in front of me. (Not atitude) and i just bobed like that for a while. Btw you should totally come see the hawaii nutcracker next year. It’s really good
No joke, me and my bff actually had to do this when we were 9 and had no role in the nutcrackers (my teacher couldn’t be bothered to make us something proper) 😂😂😂
No literally though I was a doll this year and I was the first one so I had to wait for all of the other dolls to be done and my arms hurt so bad and I had a runny nose which made everything worse
