My grandpa was the best banjo player I’ve ever met. He had the finger picks and multiple high-quality banjos. It was so awesome to listen to him play when I was little.
Roscoe Holcomb, Grandpa Jones, Dave Macon, string bean, Pete Seeger, frank Proffitt and tons of others. Bluegrass is not the only music played on the banjo 🪕
I did this same shit like 10 years ago lmao thought I was gonna be hot shit and do a banjo intro to a thrash metal song and I could NEVER play the sound that I had in my head. That banjo just kinda hangs on the wall to this day. Rarely played lol
When I first started learning the banjo I was at a complete loss. I’m so glad I kept with it though because it is such a beautiful instrument. My family is from Tennessee so I love doing Appalachian folk music
Steve Martin is the only professional banjo player i've heard of. he learned it because he thought it was the funniest instrument, and he's world class at it
As a self taught banjo player i can confirm this is 100% accurate, also try nylgut banjo strings they are wayyy easier on the fingers and sound classical
There's actually a lot of pros, banjos and/or mandolins are used in a few Celtic punk bands, and a lot of Irish Trad or Irish folk bands. The Dubliners are The High Kings off the top of my head had banjos
You haven’t heard of Earl Scruggs, JD Crowe, Don Stover, John farmer, Rick Rimen, Sunny Osborne, myself, Doug Dillard, Eddie Hoyle, Don Reno that’s ten and if you don’t count me as a pro than here’s one more Randy Scruggs. And even though Randy did mostly guitar stuff he was a Pro at banjo too.
Steve Martin. He’s a famous banjo player. Granted, he’s more famous for his movies and comedy, but he plays bluegrass banjo for the Steep Canyon Rangers.
To any string players, sometimes a little of super glue, the one that doesn't burn your skin, may help until you get callouses, so the string doesn't hurt as much the pads of your fingers, just make sure to don't glue your fingers to anything
Look up Bill Monroe Ricky scaggs and Lamb of God for all your west Virginia banjo needs but honestly banjo is actually a really versatile instrument I've used them in thrash songs I've written before and the Celtic sound goes hand in hand with that
As for someone who has been playing classical and electric gitar ever cince 2022 Xmas and 16 year old I shall give you tips... Tip1 when you play, your fingertips will get dinted ans will feel like there bruised, do not worry youre fingies will get used to it. Tip2, before you play stretch youre fingers apart to warm them up. Tip3, start playing something easy like the start of hells comin with me. Go slow then once you get the gist of it, progressively speed up(there are tutorials on how to play it) Hope this helps❤
She’s fantastic but clawhammer style kinda limits her ability in my opinion EDIT: brainfart, I somehow thought you were talking about Abigail Washburn. Was a long day haha
@@canadianguitarguru sorry I had a complete brainfart, I was recently watching a bunch of videos with him and Abigail Washburn and just got done playing for Playing for hours so I somehow my brain thought you were talking about her lol - your correct tho, he is absolutely the best in the world in my opinion, on the technical playing side of things - I have few others that I really just like their style tho but that personal preference
lost brotha from the lousiana swamps- "excuse me do you know how to get to town" kermit playing the banjo and loads up shotgun- " yea is back the way you came" 🐸
