I agree that the mindset has a lot to do with the issue of poverty. Yes, the Mennonites were thrown into the arid, desert-like inhospitable Chaco region, and they developed it well. They fled Russia first, other countries later, and after a long journey they arrived in Paraguay in 1927-28 or so. They were given land to develop in the Chaco region. They brought with them hundreds of years of culture, education, and determination to make them succeed, quite an accomplishment. I salute them!
I wanna correct you about Mennonite arrival in Paraguay it was 1926-1928, few of my grandfather cousins moved there. They escaped from communist Russia to the Baltic first and then back to Germany via ship's the Germans that time had a very hard time, they didn't let them on land and sent them to Dublin and from there one part to North America and another to South America.
@@borispetkau1246 you are correct yes some did and went to the Chaco area. The Mennonites in this area I’m referring to are the group my grandparents and great grandparents were in which was 1948. This group came from Canada.
Hi Frieda, I've been following all of your videos and it's very interesting for me. I was living in Canada and decided to move(back) to Brazil for similar reasons. However I've been finding it difficult, probably because my work experience has always been as an employee ( I'm a software developer). I would love to see more videos like this, about the best way to face challenges, goals and the future. Do you any extra tips. Making things work here was supposed to be way easier since this is my home country, but I've been found it very difficult.
I looked at this a lot since I live in the mountains of Colombia with mountain people. There are some things that could bring in good money here but they require long periods but not necessarily high investment. Immedaite gratification. There is the mind set to cheat in things of money which prohabits associations, organizations. Cooperatives. Since nobody can be trusted with money. The aspect to stick to the tried and true. To not explore options even when the existing isnt paying -- well at least U can eat --Or risk adversion. You are exactly correct , throwing money at these people, gifting cash, will fail. It may seem defeatish but to leave it alone and accept it for what it is, maybe is best. If the Natives want to hold the roof up all night in down pours , spend there money on beer and liquior whos to judge them?
Hey. Hope you guys are finding life well in Paraguay. I understand that you've made the move from Canada right? I'd like to speak to you via email or something if possible. Best of luck and looking forward to hear from you.
Well, I live today in Brazil, Parana State next to Paraguay. What I can say? If you aren't get used with hot climate, forget Paraguay. In summer is very hot every day. If you aren't get used with mosquitoes around your legs, forget Paraguay! There many others different things in Paraguay than Canada or EU but I can say, enjoy!! Amable people, liberty, nice foods, amazing nature, cheap prices and so on. Brazil in this moment is on bad way with corrupt government increasing taxes. I'm thinking about Paraguay.
Yes, the heat is a lot. So worth it though for how much more freedom we have here. Corruption is here too just maybe not to the extent of Brazil. And honestly I don’t know if you can find a place that doesn’t have corruption in some way. Some are just easier to hide than others. Taxes…. a breeze compared to most countries.
Great question, this isn't the same for all the colonies. There are some open colonies, generally more in northern Paraguay and some closed colonies in our area. I'll have a video on this in the next few weeks going into detail about which ones do and which don't.
So, even Winnipeg has homeless encampments these days, like so many American cities? So awful to see. Western "civilization" has so lost its way, it has become unrecognizable. Poverty is most definitely a mindset and I'm sure you will find Paraguayans that make enormous sacrifices and delay gratification to work towards a better future, but also an enormous number that live for the moment and nothing else. Keep striving for the future!
Sad but yes we did see tents pop up in the last year we were in Canada. This is the light version of homelessness in Canada, there’s a documentary on RU-vid about Vancouver that is a whole different level of tent cities for several years already. There are plenty of Paraguayans too that absolutely make the sacrifices necessary for a better future. Overall, it has changed so much for the better since I lived here as a kid. Thank you!
We like your channel .. your videos are very informative and well put together in a lovely informal style..both my wife And I from EU and considering living in paraguay seriously Im guessing you speak both local languages but a big move for 5 of you. we are just 2 . If you dont mind can we e mail you with a few questions , our thoughs for a future there which may even end up being a future video on your channel .
Thank you so much! We don't speak fluent Spanish or Guarani but picking up to Spanish at an ok rate now that we are working amongst Spanish. Yea for sure. email me your questions and I'm happy to answer whatever I can. Paraguay is a great choice for freedom and low cost of living.
Hello Ms. Wiebe! Glad to see that you have started a new life in Paraguay. Even though we have permanent residency in Panama, we have been looking at Paraguay as a potential second place to spend time in our retirement so we appreciate your vlog. We both agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of what keeps certain individuals in poverty. As Mr. William E. Henley, so rightly stated in Invictus - in spite of unfavorable circumstances, I am unafraid. I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. Hugs
Hi, thank you so much for the comment. Absolutely, you can do so much to determine the results. Large part is mindset and choice. Paraguay would be a great option. Low cost of living and untaxed foreign income plus people are generally very friendly. Thank you and well wishes to you!
I'm currently living in Encarnación on my retirement and I'm living well with it. In my opinion, Paraguay is the best place for retirees to come as long as you don't have existing mental or physical health problems. EASY to stay in shape in Encarnación as there are lots of places to walk or gyms to workout in.
@@dennisdow Hello Mr. Dow. Did you handle the process and your own paperwork with the government agencies in getting your residency? and How is Encarnación different from Asunción?
@@alkubbo1291 I had an attorney, but I would recommend that most people just use a helper for $300 - $500. Only if something is really complicated do you need an attorney. I will do my Permanent Residency myself. I love Encarnación. I walk a lot, and the sidewalks are much better than Asunción's. There are 9.5 km of wide sidewalks and bike trails along the river, which makes it a great place to walk.
