In today’s video we are looking at the Powell-Peralta Tailbone. I take it for a skate then discuss how this accessory can protect your deck.
Also know as a skid plate or tail guard, the tailbone is a piece of high-density and abraison-resistant plastic. Installing it helps protect your tail from developing razor tail, but there are some drawbacks.

I think for most ppl its just a good thing, when things like these get in your way; then your doing tricks at a whole another skill level.

I think they definitely have their time and application. I haven’t used one in a while now but if I setup an old school cruiser I definitely will!

I just fitted one yesterday , main reason to help me learn manuals , and to learn the basics of ollie and pops , i am 52 years old , and been skating 2 years , i need all the help i can get , and thought that by reducing the angle of contact , tail to ground , i can build confidence , and learn to really lean hard onto the tail.

That is awesome! In my opinion, when you're learning to skate the best thing to focus on is board control and just trying to feel comfortable riding. And you're right, you can work on manuals with these while protecting your tail. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Cheers for the video. Wow! I had one of these and side rails on my first deck bought from Argos in 1987. I prefer my decks without the bars. Don't like the pop with them on. Currently on a Zero 8.25, with Krux and Spitfire 54 radials.

Hey thanks for watching! I kind of enjoyed having the invincible feeling of the tailbone but it hasn’t been a permanent part of my setup. I do really like rails but the bone not so much.

I installed mine 1/4 offset lol i fkd up now I have to own it because I'm not buying another Kendall stranger things deck, it works great tho and I didn't lose pop

lol yeah they're not easy to install. Did you have to trim it or anything? Kendall's have really wide tails right?

Do you have any tips on making the tailbone a custom shape? I got the heron deck and the tail seems to be too small i have no idea how to cut it
@skate_oasis
@skate_oasis Год назад
I used a jigsaw to cut mine. I lined it up on the outer edge of the tail and used an exacto knife to scrape the shape out first, then the jigsaw. I didn't get it perfect, but close enough. Sanding it down would also help make it look cleaner. Let me know how it goes!

Can you still tail slide with a tail guard? Thanks
@skate_oasis
@skate_oasis Месяц назад
Yes but they don’t feel as good and it’s much harder. Thanks for your question 🤙

do these get in the way of tail slides?
@skate_oasis
@skate_oasis 5 месяцев назад
They do yes. They also kinda make it weird feeling to drop in on a QP.

We had tailbones way back n th ‘80’s. They are moving me and are actually stupid.

Lol I think they have their place. Mostly on cruisers and freestyle setups. It didn’t become a permanent fixture on my boards though.

Opinions & elbows. All 3 of my street/park decks have them and more skaters are starting to use them here in Atlanta.
