I purchased one from Walmart at 3 am, it arrived at my house at 930 am and by noon I had it installed. This thing is awesome I was skeptical about the quality but this thing is amazing for the price! Definitely recommend purchasing . I have it installed on a 68 mustang so not much wiring for me need to be done lol
Thanks for this! Another Portland S2K rocking the Power Acoustik. I was able to retain (gain) dash controls with the Metra ASWC-1. Very easy install. Replaced an old Kenwood deck with no dash controls.
Man those solder connectors are the truth man and they keep the wires from being too bulky! I have one of those kits too. Nice fitment on the radio man! I do like the fact the radio is hidden!
@@ronfromportland just bought the headunit, had to go to different walmarts to find it. Couldnt find the harness but end up ordering it online from Walmart. should have in a couple of days. Hopefully I will be able to install it based on your very helpful video. Now just have to wait for your next video on how DCI works and if you had a heard from Modifry if the Kenwood DCI would work with Power Acoustic HU?
Pretty sure from the manual it says it has steering wheel controls, uses a avi looking plug on the back, you could probably take a dyi controller and use the harness from that to splice onto the controls
Oh yeah, I’m sure it’s possible as others have done it. I decided to wait for the plug & play harness though. Now the controls work as intended ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XznUwjKlEi4.htmlsi=93wB-UZHw83f5CmK
@@ronfromportland Fair enough, I'll check it out, I'm considering putting that radio in my 87 Ford Econoline RV and replace the emissions light with a homemade radio controller and sneak a new bulb into the dash for the emission light
I definitely spent the last 12mins crossing my fingers that i didnt break the door🤦🏾♂️ but im safe👌🏾 But im wanting to switch this harness out for another because the dash controls would be super convenient
@@ronfromportland I just ordered the head unit too! Also emailed the Modifry shop since there's a presale option on the website but it's not working correctly!
Thanks for the vid man. This helps a ton. Im getting the head unit tomorrow. Also emails modrify because when i tried preordering the harness it says: Variant can only be purchased with a selling plan. Also, from what you said, will the kenwood dci work on the power acustik? Thanks again for the vid
I just checked the Modifry link and can confirm what you’re saying. I’m thinking the pre-order stock ran out but I was able to order one successfully. Regarding the DCI, I’ve read from multiple folks on FB that the Kenwood version should work with the PA unit but I can’t fully confirm comfortably until I try it out on my own setup. Too many factors at this point but I’ll do my best to update everyone whenever the harness gets delivered!
@@ronfromportland thanks. i was able to order the wire harness after checking for a couple of days. By any chance, have you heard from them what DCI should be used? I have emailed them several times with no response.
@@hellraisingvtec Nope, I haven’t heard anything regarding the DCI yet. I’m seeing all sorts of answers on the forums and everyone seems to say that the Kenwood dci “should work”. I suggest waiting for the official verdict before buying.
I just bought unit the other day. Followed all instruction on wiring and installed. Turned right on and seemed good but driving to work it just went back for 20 minutes and then turned itself back on when I got to work. At end of day it fired right up but then went black again after a few minutes till I got home and then it came back on. Have you seen that at all? Not sure if there is a loose wire, or if not enough power is getting to unit. Thanks for any feedback or tips!
I haven’t had this issue, mine has been good so far. I suggest double checking the connections. If that’s all good, then I would look into the plug that goes behind the head unit. That one was a B to get on there. Once you push it in, push it some more (carefully) until it’s flush. Hoping this helps!
Hi I’m about to preorder a modifry plug n play harness, and I also was reading through their website that the DCI adapter harness will also be needed to go with it? Is that correct, meaning that I’ll have to get 2 harnesses from them? Just wanting to make sure! Thanks
If I remember correctly, you only need the plug n play harness + the DCI unit since the harness should have a separate wire to plug the DCI into. I’d double check that though!
I’m wondering how your CarPlay is working I just recently got mine for my E36 and it does its job, but it is a little buggy as when I am making calls or doing any basic functions on CarPlay. It seems to lag a bit. I wanna know if any of you guys happen to come across an issue like this?
I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla but every radio I have gotten ( single din touchscreen) none of the holes line up or work for the factory bracket how did yours line up in this one I want to see the side of the unit with out the case to see
Check out @10:27. This is how it looks without the case since I didn’t use it. There’s a good visual of the side. Only one screw is needed but I used two.
@@ronfromportland thanks bro I’m new to this radio install but I want to it myself but it seems like I’m going to have to mod the fit on my car to make it work even for the screen to fit my old car stock bezel
Pretty comparable to my old Kenwood head unit tbh. I’m not really an audio expert but it sounds decent to me. I was more worried about the connectivity and the smoothness of the UI. So far so good.
Can someone please try what happens when you plug in an Android? Could I use Android Auto if I plugged a AI box into the head unit and connected with my phone to the AI box?
@@ronfromportland Supposedly it does support Android Auto, but it's wired only. If possible, can you borrow an android phone and plug it in? That'd be a great update!
