I searched for someone trying to hook up a new air compressor and couldn’t find any good videos. Here’s my guidance or wiring an IR SS5L5 60 Gal air compressor on a single phase, 60hz, 30A circuit.
$60 - Power Cord materials:
10/3 SO cord
3/8” Wire clamp
50A Plug
10 Gauge Fork Connectors
$120 - New 230V Circuit (see your local codes):
10/2 Romex Soils Wire
30A Double Pole Breaker
Nail-on wire anchors
2 gang box
230v 50 A receptacle
Face plate
3/8” wire clamp

The strain relief is not appropriate for the cable (or size for that matter), as it is actually for use with NM cable (the orange wire your friend installed from the CB panel). You should have used a strain relief cord connector in metal or plastic.

I just bought one yesterday, 2/17/23 and it had oil in it, new on the floor at Tractor Supply.

Yeah. Looks like they leave some in from testing at the factory as it turns out. Thanks for confirming as well!

Exactly what did you need a 60 gallon 5-10hp motor compressor for??? Thats a beast especially for a rental. Those are normally bolted to the concrete and never to really move again.. Unless 20 years go by and you wanna upgrade. With that tank you can run any air tool out there and never run out of air.. like never, ever.. ever. Never ever ever never. I want one

I’m doing automotive sanding and painting. Eventually, I’ll be installing a plasma table as well. So true. It’s going to be a bear to move, but it came with a pallet and isn’t impossible to move and secure. Lol. It’s great! And actually a lot quieter than most 10-30 gal compressors, especially the oil-less ones.

My first compressor was a 2hp 13 gallon, dismal I know. I outgrew it before I got it, but it was a gift so I kept it until it finally died. It was good for airing up tires and if I wanted to sand something for three minutes at a time.... Then, I finally got something worth using, a 6.5hp 33 gallon. Noisy as hell, and did a bit better, but sandblasting was like sanding on the old compressor. Two minutes or less and it was done. NOW, I am finally about to get a real compressor, one like this. If you're even slightly above the airing up your own tires phase of your life, this is the only way to go. I do my own sanding, blasting, and painting on my project car. I finally started stripping the paint with an electric grinder with a wire wheel. (No it doesn't warp metal unless you sit in one spot, the metal never even got warm to the touch.) Anyway, I should be able to put away the grinder, once I get the 60 gallon installed and running.

They're all tested from the factory and then they drain the oil so there's always a little bit of residual left in the engine but believe me there's not enough oil in there to run it more than a couple minutes without it actually doing some damage but I are always tests their equipment before they send it out that's why you had a little bit of oil in there

Lowe's Hardware Store with the spools of cut-to-length electrical wire.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I bought one used for a steal ($250) I didn't get to verify that it worked and don't want to spend the money having the electrical work done if it's no good. Just want to try it off of my dryer plug first

Does your dryer plug have color coded wire?

Mine didn’t want to start. Voltage is there. Ground. It just make some electrical noise.
