Finally completed my latest homemade project; cross and longitudinal power feeds for G0602 type lathe. Also made automatic stops for longitudinal power feed and single point threading.
O_O Just.... wow. I've been following you for a while now, both here and on Homemade Tools. I've been planning on doing the auto reversing threading clutch by Jim Schroeder out of the HSM for my G0602, but it has been on the back burner for a while as I am rebuilding my 1918 Simplex 12x36.... I've ALSO been scratching my head on how to do a power feed for my G0602 as well... I even purchased an additional apron off of fleabay as a part of the eventual project, but that's at least a year down the line, at least. PLEASE tell me you plan on sharing/selling the plans or something like that. Don't know if you're applying for a patent or such, but let me definitely state "well done, sir! Well done, indeed!" Please let me know if there will someday be a way for me to get this (plans?) into my grubby, moderately-sized-but-not-to-scarred hands sometime soon so I can get this done with my G0602. Jim
Thanks for nice words. As my apron is still dismantled, I will do some measurements and correct drawings. Once done it will be posted at Homemadetools.net for free. I am not planning to apply for patent. Too complicated and expensive and I don't believe that I will ever get any money from that.
@@lmmastermariner3859 'That dog'll hunt...' Maybe HSM would be interested in doing an article, as well. I'd love to see the write up on your development. Your project has got me fired up to add more capability to my lathe. I originally purchased my G0602 to support my rebuild of my Simplex lathe, but lately I have found myself limited, both by the lathe, and (as a teacher) dealing with the pandemic. After retiring from the Army, I could have done many things, but noooo.... 'I'll teach at-risk kids, that'll be safe and rewarding at the same time...' (sigh) Thanks for the awesome video!!!! I'd love to hear more on your thought processes and you work out the tricky problems. I am eagerly waiting for the next episode. Jim
Just came across these two videos, what a fantastic idea and so very well executed! Well done!!.....I am in the middle of planning a powered cross feed for my lathe and this has given me some great ideas. One thing I am struggling with is finding a worm gear and worm wheel of the correct size, would you mind telling me where you sourced your from? Many thanks, Stu
I bought my gears in China. Ordered from 'taobao'. You can order that stuff from aliexpress. Just checked now. www.aliexpress.com/item/4001018776047.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000060.2.2b0f7a799OdZV6&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller&scm=1007.13339.274681.0&scm_id=1007.13339.274681.0&scm-url=1007.13339.274681.0&pvid=b6aee71b-6ea3-4345-a7f0-1b5572ffac89&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreThisSeller,scm-url:1007.13339.274681.0,pvid:b6aee71b-6ea3-4345-a7f0-1b5572ffac89,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238115%232000&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2210000013525412865%22%2C%22sceneId%22%3A%223339%22%7D&pdp_npi=2%40dis%21USD%21%218.62%21%21%21%21%21%402101d1b316548171098385883ee2a3%2110000013525412865%21rec This is exactly what I bought, 4 sets; 25, 30, 35 and 40, but I paid much less for that.
Did you alter the gearing of the lead screw, to compensate for the gear reduction from the worm screw?.....The lowest gear reduction I can find for the worm gear set is 1:15 ie, a 15T worm wheel on a Mod 1 worm
@@stuartcox4739 Part two, 13:01 - 13:05 watch again. That spur gear which came off feed screw is metric module 1.5 gear - 18 teeth. It is in contact with another spur gear, module 1.5 12 teeth. That 12 teeth gear is keyed to the wormshaft.
im confused, do you play the trumpet or are you trying to keep secrets. For all we know you bought it with power cross feed. You didn't say one word about how you did it. What's the point? Good idea but wish you would have shared some info.
if you had watched part one ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YX-y0rUBckU.html ) you wouldn't have been confused and you would have noticed that power cross feed didn't exist before. please watch it, don't be confused.
Extremely clever invention,by the way i haven't seen it on any lathe carriage before! although in this days they rather to use cnc to automate certain processes? Still many manual lathe owners would pay for this conversions on their toys. Even its a lot of planning and work hours i'll be expecting to read your instructions to rise my knowledge, i'm not a lathe owner yet ,but as experienced lathe machinist ,right now i have one eye on a Pinachio S-90/200 ,unless ? Someone recommend something alike for less!,any idea?? Greetings from Honduras 💪💪p.d. before offer the invention to any maker? its better patent it, although it involves lot things!!
OK -I'm 2:27 in and i've already seen everything I want to. You basically retrofitted the "big lathe functionality" onto this turd. I'm gonna watch the whole video, butI don't think I'll get answers to my questions. Nevertheless - well done. Even if you don't share it with the rest of the world. Also, I'm only 2:30 in and I consider this a clickbait.

Man this is so cool. I have the same lathe and I would love power cross feed. You also added the brake to the spindle may I ask why you wanted more braking power?
@@lmmastermariner3859 Thanks for the link. I checked it out and I am surprised at how good it works. Good job. I actually don't have the same lathe mine is the G0602. I don't have a guard door. I am interested in checking out your crosslidee powerfeed system. I checked your profile on that website and nothing came up maybe I need to be registered? or do you have another link to a build or something?
