Power Handle Upgrade for Penn Fathom Low Profile and Shimano Tranx

Penn Fathom Low Profile handle upgraded with the handle from an Abu Garcia Tevo Toro Beast. These are the models that I'm aware of that have 6x6mm handle shaft.
Shimano Tranx 300 handle was upgraded using the Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500 handle. This can be used with any brand reel with a 8x5mm shaft which is the most common.

@@BradHemedes Not exactly sure on the measurements I just tried it and it fit snug with no play I will be ordering one for my low profile 400

@@gcastellon1027 Thanks for the info. I tried the handle from a Penn Fathom lever drag and it was too big. That will be a cheaper option than the Abu Garcia.

You mentioned that the Tranx was hard to turn. If you get the lower gear ratio version it will be a lot easier to crank big blades.

I prefer the line retrieve. The power handle made it easier to jig 150g lures.

Abu need to come out better selection of power handles if they want to maintain the 6x6 shaft reel.

Will the high speed low profile work on the penn lp 300?? Just need a power handle . Maybe ne is the black and gold one.

Yes just replace it with a power handle if you can get it from an Abu Garcia Toro Revo Beast which is not easy to find. Got mine from Ebay for 50 bucks. I would suggest just get a Tranx 300HG come with a power handle. If you need extra cranking power, replace it a longer power handle from a ocea jigger or torium. You can buy them from shimano parts website.

Tranx. Penn is heavier and bulkier to grip.

I got it from ebay. It’s the handle from a Abu Garcia Revo Toro Beast. Unfortunately there are no aftermarket power handle with a square shaft available right now.

Are the fathom 300 and 400 the same size on the shaft?

Yes. Works on both left and right hand reels.

Did you find these upgrades make difference in real life fishing? Did it solve the hard to crank issue?

It depends. This modification is for vertical jigging. If you’re using the reel for casting keep the stock handles.

@@BradHemedes thank you I have the 300 fathom High speed for vertical jig (slow pitch) and i am worried about losing power to the high gear. You think upgrading the handle will solve the issue?

I am not sure. There was a comment here that the size 300 is not a square shaft but a 5x8mm which more standard.
