Square / Robertson ... the strongest of the bunch to torque on. Invented by a Canadian 🇨🇦 by the name of Larry Robertson. It tends not to slip and damage material, it can be used with one hand, and it is much easier to remove/replace after weathering

that a nice upgrade to a trailer! I have 1060w of solar on my trailer 4kwh of batteries and a 3000w inverter for work and its amazing when power is down! that inverter is very nice, I would upgrade the wire between your two 6 volt batteries as it is now very undersized.
@wb2ire
@wb2ire 3 года назад
Cody: Leaving the ground lead from the inverter off the negative terminal did not make it safe for you to touch the wrench of the positive terminal to the chassis. The negative terminal of that battery was grounded to the chassis through the other 6 volt battery and would have shorted if the wrench touched the chassis.

Inverters are very handy to have. I've been using a 1000w pure signwave paired with a 12v deep cycle battery to power things in my house during the snowpocalypse in Texas. I recharge the 12v battery with my generator. This setup kept me from running cords through my house which would let cold air in. Its also more efficient on my gas generator. We used my 1500w inverter at my inlaws hooked up to one of their cars. They lost power in Monday and regained power yesterday. For those that don't want the hassle of maintaining or storing gas for a generator should consider a quality invert as an option to use with a vehicle during an emergency. Very affordable and will give you some peace of mind.

Cody... it looked to me that the negative side of the battery was still hooked up to the chassis so you would have had sparks if your wrench had touched the chassis. It looks to me your jumpers between batteries and the batteries and the chassis lug should be upgraded to number 4 as well. Hmm when did 6 volts and 6 volts equal 24 volts? Yes Im poking fun at you... It's nice to see they are putting two 6 volt golf cart batteries in series. This is a much better way to do things than two 12 volt batteries in parallel. Because in a parallel system if one battery goes bad it will damage the good one. With a series system you just need to replace the bad battery.

CODY!! THAT INVERTER HAS SOME REAL BIG CAPACITORS THAT YOU NEED TO CHARGE BEFORE YOU CONNECT TO THE BATTERY! If you don't have a power resistor to charge them through, you can use an old soldering iron for the load to slow charge them. If you just touch the cable to the battery you are going to get a pretty hefty spark, and you know how dangerous that can be. CHECK THE DIRECTIONS FOR PROPER METHOD FOR FIRST TIME HOOKUP.

Why did you not tie the inverter into the existing 110v circuit with a transfer switch? The outlet is right next to your inverter. You could then mount the inverter inside the corner triangle protected. The inverter in that location is very vulnerable to getting wet.
@ujmchris

@alexandermenzies9954
@alexandermenzies9954 3 года назад
A very basic understanding of heat transfer will help you orientate an inverter. The buoyancy of heated air (heated by conduction next to the thin visible black fins of heat sinks) will cause it to rise (called "convection"); hence, align the heat sink fins vertically so those same fins do not hinder its upward movement. If there are ventilator slots/openings/louvres ensure those openings face upwards, too (hope your unit is well designed!). The ventilation fan should help push the warmed air upwards too, in the same direction (vertical) as the convection currents so that the warm convection air is not battling the fan. Judging from the Arctic conditions, this will not be a huge problem for Cody.

Noticed that too; pretty sure he'll get to it directly. Was also thinking: I don't have to be in the shop to kneel on the sharpest thing on the floor. If I happen to kneel anywhere, the sharpest thing within a 10' radius is likely to be right there at the point of contact. When the kids leave out 1 LEGO block after cleaning up two 5 gal buckets of them... I find that one piece while barefoot (which is the "Dad Corollary" to Murphy's Law). And no complex wiring. Just connect to battery, plug in and go. You need to put a DCDC charger in your truck so when you plug the trailer in you can charge the batteries as you're driving a minimum 25amp DCDC will do all though you can get bigger ones up to a 50 amp. REDARC is a very well known respected company 100% Australian made backed by ARB and may many other companies pretty much the bee's knees here in Australia and take off world wide. I would look at getting rid of those 6v AGMs and swapping them out for lithium batteries either a single 100amp or go twin 100amps for a total of 200amp in 12v. Further more just to be cheeky Mr Wranglerstar I didn't know 6v in series makes 24 volts.... yes we know you meant 12 Volts.
@davedev927

Did he tell you the truck has TWO alternators?!
@coreydark8795
@coreydark8795 3 года назад
@@davedev927 Clearly you have no idea when it comes t vehicle and battery management just because the truck as 2 alternators doesn't mean it will charge the trailer or duel battery. The DCDC allows the truck battery to fully charge up and then send a full charge at 25amps per hour vs a trickle charge of maybe 1-2 camps per hour. The DCDC is what EVERY vehicle with a duel battery system and or trailer battery system so they can properly and fully charge. Now he doesn't have to go with REDARC but it's pretty much the best of the best out there. There are other brands such as projector etc also the good ones have a MPPT solar regulator there for you can run solar to charge the batteries when the vehicle isn't being used. Now he has 2 options. Either run a DCDC in the truck and have the camper and trailer plug into it or he can run one in the camper and one in the trailer. .

Ah! I was looking for this question. I just assumed you could charge things while on the road and there was an inverter in that system already. Thank you for the reply’s 👍👌

The outlet is a little bit close to the inverter... if ever you want to use all the plugs you might have a problem

With your crimp method- you can either pop the terminal on the wire and slot it into the jaws or you can apply some pre-load on the application tool so it holds the terminal while your inserting the wire..

You should check out the Klein 63050 wire cutter for large Wire. They work great for stripping the wire too.

Hi Cody, I’ve been listening to your channel , off and on, for years. I’d like to point out that you spend a lot of time explaining yourself. You could record the whole video and narrate over it. In your earliest videos you barely spoke and, very effectively I might add, used body language to explain the process. The timber framing you did is a good example. You came off as very seasoned. You come off as anxious and wordy. Read, pray, and put on the seven pieces of holy armour. Keep going.

Great addition. Why did you feel the need to install it, however, when you already had a 110v outlet already there? I’ll postulate that the existing outlet is exclusively shore power, but that’s just my semi educated guess.

My father has that same inverter in his RV. The phone jack connector is for a remote control panel (I think it does a few things, but we were mostly interested in remote turn on/off). After a little internet sleuthing, we found some sort of schematic for the official control panel and built our own remote turn on cable. It's nothing more than a piece of Cat 5 with a phone plug crimped on one end and a momentary switch on the other. Basically, it just shorts a couple of pins together for a second or two to toggle between on and off. Another thing is we used a breaker instead of a fuse. That way, we could easily disconnect it from the battery. Probably not really necessary since that inverter has very low standby current when its turned off, but still nice.

Cody, now we’re talking about something that I am interested in for off grid using parts if you want to get into solar you’re 2/3 there with your batteries and an inverter. At least according to my understanding of turning DC power into 110. I hope you will show us how to install the 100 watt fuse. God’s blessings to you and your family Wranglerstar 👍

umm/ they make 12v battery tenders so you don't waste the energy by inverting it even though its already 12v.

Those outlets are shore power. You either plug into an outlet on a building or plug into a generator
@kaffenoizen
@kaffenoizen 3 года назад
Those outlets doesn't work when the trailer is not connected to a landline, the inverter takes power from the batteries and makes it 110v when they are camping.

Just a recommendation, if you are going to draw power with 4 gauge wire, the batteries should also be wired to that ground and together with 4 gauge.

Cody, you used #4 wire for the inverter but the ground cable to the stud on the chassis and the link cable between batteries is still far smaller.
