Druaga videos are full of dramatic ironies. We, the audience, are aware that this isn't going to be a simple video because it's more than one hour long but, Druaga is unaware of what he is about to get in to.
I credit Danooct1 in about 2011 for getting me into computers, but Ian and It'sMyNaturalColour have definitely expanded my love for Macs, vintage and new. Plus, Ian really gets me in the happy feels whenever he does really weird and interesting shit that may or may not work in terms of hardware. Thank god for you, Ian.
just remember if at first you don't succeed try try try try try try try try again and try try try some more till maybe something works that's the Drauga1 way
But... but LGR is on at the same time on The WB. How am I going to watch both now. HOW AM I GOING TO DO THIS DRUAGA I DON'T HAVE PICTURE-IN-PICTURE ON THIS TV
Donald Person BuT iF iT’s ExPaNdAbLe YoU wOnT bUy A nEw TrAsH cAn iN 3 MoNtHs! Yeah, you’re right, but to be actually fair to apple, I think their trash cans are smaller than these towers. Still, just put the tower under your desk and you’d be golden, no matter the size.
Late 2005 G5s 2.0 and 2.3 are single CPU dual core models, not dual proessor. Quad G5s are dual core + dual CPU. Earlier G5 models are single core, single or dual CPU. BTW great videos :)
"It's kind of quiet" I've got the dual 2.0 G5 with an 80GB disk running fairly quiet. I think 2GB of system memory and the FX5200. Any idea on what's the best AGP PowerMac G5 video card? Despite the FX5200 being perfectly fine for all my games, any idea on what I can put in there? I've gotta GeForce 7950GT but that's not a Mac card.
Druaga, the dual-processor G5 might have some sort of EFI firmware on it, which would explain why it was able to boot off of the GUID drive, despite the fact that it is a PowerPC Mac.
There is a 6 pin pcie connector on the G5's mobo (atleast on the last revision of the G5s). It's right by the intake fan for the pcie slots -- You don't actually need to remove the fans to get to it.
The Dual 2 core CPU G5 with a Quadro Fx4500 and SSD is very damn good especially if you use Lubunto with it, its obsolete but fun as hell to mess around with and to use
Heh, I still remember when my local UPN affiliate would run Infomercials from like 10am to 5pm on weekdays ;) (not even syndicated court or talk shows)
Druaga, that Halo Launcher had a Timedemo-option (=Benchmark) in it, please check it out! could be so useful. Oh yeah, what type of quadro is it exactly? watching on a quadro 600 here :)
How many videos in a row are we going to get, where a situation requires opening an optical drive, and Hirens boot CD just happens to be in there for whatever reason?
I'm actually surprised Doom 3 ran as well as it did on the 6600le. I remember using the time demo in that game to test out all the various tweaking I did to my pc back in the day.
If you own a PowerMac G5 you should purchase an Apple Systems Diagnostics CD. The CD performs a hardware check on all of your components and if your fans are running on full speed the CD performs a thermal calibration and readjusts your fan speed. This CD will keep your PowerMac running for years to come. The Disk is called ASD 2.5.8 and is sold on Ebay
These is just me being curious about all these "install Windows on it's" These uses PPC architecture, not x86, arm or x64, no Windows version was officially released for PPC architecture
Is a g5/g3 still good for : RU-vid, uploading to RU-vid, twitch watching, Facebook, Web browsing, garageband, imovie, Adobe photoshop, document writing, important school documents, and general apps ( don't care if it need a older version of the app), and games from that time?
i never owned a g5/g3 but i saw a video by the 8bitguy and he says that youtube on the g5 can only handle like 360p and facebook is pretty slow, the rest i dunno
G3s are very SLOW and very OLD and outdated for this time. The maximum OS that they can run is Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger (and not all the G3s can handle it), and it's the same, is very outdated. Although Dual G5s are still good for today, the max OS that they can support is 10.5.9 Leopard, and that is outdated, so i wouldn't recommend it. So you can easily buy a Intel iMac from 2007-2008 that can do easily the same stuff, and with more updated systems. (They can handle to OS X El Capitan)
not sure if it's possible as I've not looked into it but could you flash the firmware from a G5 Quadro onto the Mac pro card in order to use it? it's possible with other cards so I can't see why you couldn't. Could make an interesting video!
Wow that is the ultimate PC, I think the reason that it requires you to insert the game disc is because there is a key on the disc that unlocks the game otherwise it would have been ripped off as soon as it came out.
+Dami Nooki yeah the PowerMac G5 only has an rack mounted version of itself as an server that Power plug is like that because apple changed the look of it in the late 2005 version and Drugs is using an late 2005 version in this video or as I say The last PowerMac
+Dami Nooki sorry I was wrong, the "quad" has 2 cores 4 threads and the GPu part was kinda wrong, the max GPu that you can put in the g5 is the 7800gtx, it didn't come with it stock
There is a standard mini 6-pin power connector on the logic board in PCIe Power Mac G5s. I have a Radeon X1900 installed in mine and it came with a cable to use it.
If your hardware isn't functioning, reset your PRAM and SMC (Or whatever it was called in the PPC gen, Open Firmware? I forget). Unplug the computer totally, hold down the power button for ten seconds. Boot up the computer holding Command+Option+P+R, it will sit at the gray screen for a moment and reboot. Optical drive should now work. This is best to do for *any* hardware change in a Mac.
When I saw that he forgot to put the fan module back in the beginning I thought "this is not gonna end well". But later I saw that he had done it off camera ;)
What about youtube videos? I can watch 480p videos pretty well in Safari and IceWeasel, but in 720p it becomes laggy and always in the Window, never at full screen (1080p monitor here). The question is, an advanced graphic card will help with this?
I recently got a mac Power PC and I tunning it up to 8 Gigs of RAM. But I'm having a hard time finding softwares for it. Any tips? Good games for PPC Macs? Up-to-date Browsers?
Crazy to think that one single little G5 chip required all of that freaking metal to cool it. And now the cheapest of cellphones probably have similar if not more processing power. And it cost thousands of dollars. Mid 2000s was a really weird time for computing, before the Intel Core came and blessed everything.
+MattExzy The biggest factor for cooling in phones is that it is an ARM CPU, so it runs cooler. For sure tech has changed though. It's amazing how refined things have gotten though in 10 years.
+MattExzy The G5 was a beast in 2003, but towards the end of its life it became clear the power to performance wasn't great. Combine that with how it wasn't scaling down well for use as a mobile CPU in the PowerBooks meant the switch to Intel and certain doom for PowerPC on Macs. When the quad-core Xeon Mac Pro came out in mid 2006, it was basically twice the performance for less power consumption of the year-earlier DP G5. Unlike the G5, the first-gen Mac Pro with some upgrades is still a usable primary desktop today. Upgrade it to two of the later quad-core Xeons for 8 cores total and it competes very well with modern Macs.
