So you want to know what electrical system I'm installing?
2 of the major components of and off-grid setup in a campervan, where "leave no trace" is your only way to camp, is to have enough power to stay in the spot you are and then to have a toilet that can take your waste for as long as you want to stay there too.

John it’s your van build, it’s in a very fluid state of build, the toilet you’re fitting is simple and if the instructions and all the cables and brackets are supplied the power system will be a simple “plug-n-play” installation. That’s the way to go, fit the best you can it simplifies things later. It’ll make life easier later if you’re not worrying about power and poo! It will make for an interesting build, you go for it John. Take care.

Had one of these toilets in my van for about a year, best thing I ever did, not cheap but well worth the money, everyone panics about it smelling but I think thetford type toilet smells 10 times worse,

Wow that’s some setup John - looks really simple to install too - be interested to follow and see in more detail (I’ve already got lithium 460ah but did it myself) - the toilet looks interesting and looks like running costs for the bags are about the same as toilet sachets. All the best, David 👍

Awesome, John. Won't suit everyone's budget but if you want the best you have to pay. You weren't deceitful when you said your build is simple - not when the high tech stuff has been SO simplified by the likes of EcoFlow.

Excellent!! Love to see your excitement shining through. I like the fact you're discussing the components one by one, it's so much better this way as it builds the story a page at a time, and leaves the viewer with a "look forward" to the next vlog (as if we needed one). The weight comparison between the Ecoflow system and the setup you had in the previous van would be interesting if you have that. 👋

Oddly enough I recorded lots more, including info on weight comparisons but it got cut in the edit as it went on too long. Overall like for like the ecoflow system gives me 35% more power and saves me 9kg of weight compared to the system in the old Motorhome.

Poo...is a dirty notion...but not everywhere. Consider the countries around the world where they have not removed human waste from the environment. They don't have flushing toilets, or sewers, or sewage treatment plants. They also don't need to slurry their fields between harvests, and tend to yield better, and more often, than us. Clearly an oversimplification here, but you get my drift. When you said you'd build simpler, I reckoned you'd get a big Jackery type thingy. Ecoflow have done a grand job of simplifying the power install system. Looking forward to seeing it up and running. Do you get bells and whistles with it? I'm sure Mandy could advise on fairy lights. Ecoflow kit looks very nice but super expensive. Be interested in your feedback on price review against alternate solutions when you do your later videos. Good luck with the new van build looks an exciting project.

To buy separate parts, cabling, fuses, breakers etc would be the same price is I paid for the ecoflow kit. But I get a lot more power from the ecoflow kit as the 48v system makes it far more efficient.

Interesting - but a separating loo wouldn’t be for me. People I know have put an incinerating toilet in their narrow boat - like you, they run off grid. No surprise about the eco flow system. Looking forward to the next video.

So John, what does that all equate too in equivalent amp hours, was looking at this system for a future project? I wasn’t sure as its a 48v system and didnt seem a lot when i did the math?

I explained in the video, 6000 watts is roughly 500 amps at 12 volts, but it's the better efficiency of the 50v system, watch the video and then newer videos showing more about the system.

One normal Lithium 200 amp battery at Amazon, I brought for 600, and have more power than Eco Flow, 2400 wh! And s lot of cheaper! The sockets I have a lote in my motorhome!. The Eco Flow is just a marketing produt for camping with tent....

Thankyou for information about poo and power..😂 I know nothing when it comes to van conversions...my question is: will this power set up do away with the need for gas...in other words will it be similar to a house which has gas and electric changing to full electric...heating/cooking/hot water, etc, etc...thankyou..

Hi John. I've agonised over what's best....Blue titty 😁, Exoflow, or a full victron install. I've literally just ordered several £1000's worth of victron kit and a Roamer 460ah lithium battery. Just curious how you came to decision on Exoflow Vs a custom install. Was it based on weight, cost, simplicity of install or what? hi john just a quick question about who you use for your van insurance.we have just done our first year full time and are loving it .but the only company we can seem to find is comfort and our policy for last year was £1200 witch seem a lot .Can you recommend one as i am having trouble finding one online. also we took your advice and had the B F Goodrich A.T tyres fitted to our Burstner last year they really help during the winter on the C.L sites that dont have hard standing will you be putting them on your new van?.Safe travels

Do you have a UK address? Somewhere you could spend the night & collect your post? If so then use the caravan & Motorhome club, you’re not living in your van, you’re touring for extended periods of time and they allow 364 days a year of touring.

Ecoflow looks very nice but it's expensive compared to buying core component bits and DIY. I've just bought 2 x 300ah Sterling lithium batteries (300x12 = 7200kWh) Durite 3kW pure sine wave inverter, a victron 100/50 MPPT, sterling DC-DC 60amp charger and 420W Jinko neo PV panel and the whole lot came in at under 5k. Ecoflow are listing 5kW power kit at £6598 plus £1999 for additional 2kWh so that would be £8600 in round figures. For me would it be worth three and a half grand for the shiny boxes and simplicity of install and a one stop shop for guarantees etc? I dunno, they look good, they are simpler to install but £3500 is 6 tubs of Haribo and 500 gallons of diesel at 40mpg thats 20,000 miles. Be very interesting to see how you get on

You’ve not calculated cables, connectors, install labour time, setup time, remote management tools, plus your 7,200 kWh is at 12v, ecoflow is 48v and therefore more efficient overall in terms of solar charging and inverter power. Each to their own, but I’ve been where you are and learnt there are better ways of powering a van. This is my 5th van, years of living in a van, it’s time to stop repeating the same mistakes and move forward.

@@GadgetJohn I did include cables, connectors fuses etc but felt I didn't need to itemise the full shopping list. I do get why you are going this route and I'm not dissing you I appreciate you have a lot of hard won experience. To be fair if budgets weren't an issue and weighing up the final real £ value of the van (rather than the emotional value) against the total build cost I may have chosen the same route as you. But my van isn't as new as yours and so installing such a high value system in my van just doesn't make financial sence for me

@@mattclark7700 If it adds context I know some who runs a dog kennel and all the poo goes in bags, a whole lot of it and is collected by the same truck that collects the regular bins.

The wee goes down the drain or around a tree out of the way, the poo after a week or two will be quite dry & odourless, and I'll drop it into a dog poo bin or a general waste bin as it won't be in a liquid state so won't cause any issues during collection.
