Nice one John. and i agree, clean and polish the roof now so its all clean before fitting more things. and about time someone made the fitting to level off the ridges in the roof, makes it easier to fit and gives a much better finish.

I bet you did a few deep intakes of breath cutting holes in the roof.John. I certainly did watching you cut them. I'm so relieved that everything worked out ok.That fitted plate was brilliant. Makes all those vids building up tape obsolite and such a good job. Glad to see you cracking on and TBH, the less folk "help" the more satisfaction you'll get from doing a fab job yourself. Great work, great video. Regards and respect-Kenny

You can hear your mood lift in your voice in getting the first hole done and right. I know what that feels like. I enlarged the 300x300 hole in my caravan roof to fit a 400x400 rooflight and it’s scary as hell! And yeah I scratched the roof too.

I’m a retired carpenter and and most of my work was making stairs on site for big companies on my own and I was left on my own then checked by the Structural engineer , site manager, and architect, then got paid , when I retired I thought I would do the odd job for a bit extra money , I got a job to do some 9 inch skirting in a house , but with the lady customer at home with the radio full blast and telling me that she would like all internal scribe joints to be mitred as less pencil marks , real carpenters will know that this is wrong , that was my last job for the General public , the people that can’t do it themselves are the people that always say ,DONT DO IT LIKE THIS , DO IT LIKE THAT , 🍺🍺

Good to see things going well. It's easy to overlook cleaning the roof really well afterwards and then getting a rust rash the first time it rains as all of the little metal particles produced by the jig saw start to corrode. Clearly won't be an issue for you. It looks really neat. Only 9999 jobs left :)

Just to add. I don't think there is such a thing as too much Sikaflex 😆. We didn't put quite enough on ours to start with and it leaked through the screw holes. So we just added more! Loved the look on your face when you checked out your first hole. You were like a little kid. Brilliant John.

What a brilliant idea that profile panel is for the roof, it’s about time someone made them. I take it they are available for other makes of vans like the Ford Transit. How many times did you check the size you marked out before you cut anything?

Rather than putting masking tape around the hole, put it on the base of the jigsaw itself, that'll help prevent scratches
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Год назад
No, if you do it your way you drag all the swarf with you on the tape of the jigsaw, so remove the plate and tape on the surface, that’s the best way.

When you fitted the flange did you trim back the masking tape so that the flange was glued directly to the roof?
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Год назад
Yes, the tape was removed after cutting the hole, I cleaned up the swarf and used alcohol cleaner to prepare the area and then stuck the flange down directly onto the roof, the tape you see after is to keep the area clean of sikkaflex.
