Exactly. The two games have unique gameplay styles compared to the traditional fighting games which are extremely fun to play with friends. Add cameo characters and stages from different titles like Smash did, and you have a party brawler that can potentially go toe-to-toe with Smash.
I know. Why capcom hasn't released these games and all their other older awesome unique titles (licensing issues I'm sure) but online play would make these old games new again. And newbto a new younger audience
I really loved this game back in the day. Much more than Smash Bros. to be honest. Nowadays, my Dreamcast is fucked... but I still enjoy a match or two from time to time on the PSP. The PSP version is actually pretty good and has some bug fixes... it's just kind a hard to get a multiplayer round going.
@Uncle Brotha well personally for me I prefer 1 over 2 because it is just one on one and sometimes in all out fight with a 3-D arena with 4 characters all over the screen it can get tricky at times to keep track of everyone and everything but don't get me wrong it is fun!-but the thing that clinches it for me is that in 1 when you transform you get alternate music until the transformation wears off and a lot more detail and effort has been paid to each characters special when activated! But if you're the sort of person who prefers making and trying to get *ALL* the items and stuff like that and prefer playing 4 V.S. 4 matches like a big brawl over a one on one then maybe two is for you? At the end of the day I would say it's all personal preference to what you like out of such a game but if you want my totally truthful honest opinion, *GET BOTH!* eventually! Lol, but start with 1 I'd say then 2 because both have their merits! 👍
@Uncle Brotha I don't think so at least not human players?? Computer maybe but I'm pretty sure you and 3 friends can't play story mode with 4 of you in total? I might be wrong though?
Play it with other 3 friends and you wont be able to turn off the console... It's a legal multiplayer Drug! Capcom HAS to make a sequel (even a remaster) with online mode!
Good luck at getting it now. It sells for around 200 dollars or more for a complete copy. I doubt it comes down in price much unless you find someone selling it for a deal. These Dreamcast games are only getting rarer and harder to come by. Remember when people had these as kids they treated them poorly so that means not many working discs are left. They were either thrown in trash or scratched up to the point that even resurfacing them doesn't fix it. Collecting Dreamcast now a days is only for the rich or people making a lot of money. Games are so expensive right now and I don't think it has anything to do with inflation. I agree that the government is responsible for overpriced gas, goods, and food but Dreamcast prices were even expensive under the previous Administration.
Surprised it's so expensive in the US. Here in the UK, you can get a complete near mint copy for around £45 on eBay. Not sure how much that converts into US dollars ? I bought both Power Stone 1 and 2 from a seller, complete, pretty much in mint condition on eBay for £64.99
Hi everyone. I got the Japanese version and was trying to navigate the options menu. Can't Can't to find any pics of info about the option menu translates to english. Any info would be appreciated
Does the item store make or break the game? I have a copy of this game but sadly my dreamcast won't load the item store for some reason. Everything else works fine though
Wow, I had no idea this game goes for so much in the US. Here in the UK you can get a complete, near mint copy for around £40 on eBay. I just bought Power Stone 1 and 2, complete, pretty much in mint condition for £64.99 on eBay. Bargain. Also the cover art of the north American version is ugly compared to the European cover art. Noticed that with a lot of the Dreamcast game's, actually it seems to be the norm with most systems actually. Just look at Resident Evil 4 and Icon on the PS2, the European cover's look so much nicer.
I personally hate the sequel. The first PowerStone's combat has much more depth. Each character has unique grab combos that can be performed in mid air, or on the ground. (So 2 separate / unique combos, depending on where you performed the grab) All characters also have three moves they can perform while in their supers, on top of the two special moves. I also love the diagonal air kick all characters have access to in their base forms because it helps close the gap between you and your opponent quickly, making the game feel much more fast paced. Now compare that to the sequel. Grab combos are completely gone, and instead, are replaced with simply picking a character up and throwing them for almost no damage. They also have only a single move that can be performed in their super-form, and of course, the diagonal kick has been stripped, forcing you to slowly walk up to your enemy and perform your standard 3 or 4-hit combo that every single character has in the game, making all characters feel rather 'samey' The first game was a legitimate fighting game. The sequel feels more like Mario Party. Don't get me wrong, Mario Party can be fun... but that's not why I liked the original and I was severely let down by this game when it was new. If you play this game on the psp / vita, the sequel characters become playable in the first game, and OMG, do they suck in comparison to the original characters... No ground grab combo, no air grab combo, no diagonal kick, one base move while in super compared to 3. It feels like you're playing with a controller where half the buttons don't work compared to the AI you're facing. The combat is just awful... but hey, that's just my opinion =P
having recently played both of these I have to agree. Power Stone 1 is much more fun as a simplified fighting game, while 2 takes what complexity 1 had (which wasn't that much in the first place) and completely guts it in favor of making it more of a party game. Once the novelty of the dynamic stages wears off (which admittedly are pretty cool), you're left with a rather shallow fighting system.
Yes, i hate the fact that is NOT LIKE THE ARCADE VERSUS 1 ON 1, Now is 4 players and it really Sucks, hard to tell what's going on, i played about 35 mins haven't tried everything yet Power Stone 2 😢😞😣
I know this game is universally loved but i can't get over some of the goofy characters and stages in this regard i think the first one is better for me.
Dan here, if you wanna see some video reviews from myself, I'm also now working over at Destructoid! Here's my latest review for Pokemon Gold on the 3DS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1bMpy01CBOQ.html
From a stranger in the Siliconera comments to Destructoid, nice one. I'll try to keep up with your stuff there at least. Never checked out the Power Stone series but been curious for a while. Perhaps I'll check it the PSP collection (got it as a part of a sale) when I get a Vita or something.
Thanks! You can follow me on Twitter or my profile page on Dtoid if you wanna keep up with my work: www.destructoid.com/?name=Dan+Roemer&a=314556&start=0&chaos=ok
