Five years and this video is still relevant and informative. Love your tutorials. The videos are brilliant and have helped me overcome some big hurdles as I build my apps. Question: How do I get a search box to sort through the "all" option of a DropDown filter? I built a drop down filter to sort my data by department and I included an "all" option to show all employees. I then created a search box to sort through the names of employees, based on the drop down selecdtion. Everything works great, except for when I select "all". The search box then stops working.

how would you format the search function if you were dealing with numbers? It appears that search can only work with Text.

Hi Shane, I'm getting a yellow warning triangle when I do the exact same as you.. Any idea on how to fix this?

How do i search a number. for example - PhoneNumber column is number formatted and latitude is Text. so i can search latitude as text but i can't search PhoneNumber, it shows invalid Search Parameter in "items" of Data table of "drive excel file" connection

Hi Shane, I am trying to do the exact same thing as you but it doesn't work. My gallery has 3 fields : Division, Year, and Quarter. When I try to select a column, I can select everything (other columns in my forms) except Division and Quarter. My guess is that it doesn't work because they are Choice Columns in my Sharepoint List. Have you encountered a similar issue and know the way to work around this? Thank you,

As of today (29/10/2020) Lookup Columns still don't work in the Search function......unless you can tell me something different

Hey shane. well i just started power apps and I created an inventory app with power app using excel as my datasource but the search function doesnt allow me search in more than one column, i mean adding more than one column name to the columns to be searched in the search function doesnt work for me, instead it just keeps loading till it returns empty screen. but so far your video has been helping so far

This video has been a great help to me! I know this is an older one, but maybe you can still answer a question for me. I have a ListBox I am using this search method on. If I select items and change the search by searching a different item or removing the search criteria, my selected items are no longer selected. How can I retain the selected items after manipulating the search? I'm heading towards collecting the selected items with OnSelect, but then it still adds an item if I deselect it. :(

My question for you is, if I try to filter (for the purpose of not allowing to see records from another department, but I want to search on those that are left, how can I do that? The two Formulas are like this: Filter(Table1, Department = "FM20") SortByColumns(Search(Table1, TextSearchBox1.Text, "Name","Address1","City"), "Name", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending)) Can they be combined since they are both pointing to the BrowseGallery?

Shane, How do you get exact match is search box? I have list of equipment with similar name like component#1,2,3 but the problem I have is that I got the equipment list starting with corresponding number like when I search for component#1 I get the results for all #1,11,110 & on.

Hi Shane, i'm using a SharePoint list for my data source and it's contain almot 5000 row data. PowerApps has a limitation that only can contain 2000 record data. do you have any workaround for this case? thanks!

Excellent. Do you know how hand the accent in words? I mean, in Spanish or French languages is used the accent in vowels (for example función word), but if I write the word without the accent, the function SEARCH won't find out it. Is there any function or algorithm to solve this little issue?

Hi Shane, I would like to add a Search Box to my app's 'EditForm.' Is that possible? I've tried to duplicate the same information from the Search functionality on the Gallery, but the 'SortByColumns(Filter([@TestCCHoldersList], StartsWith('LAST NAME', TextSearchBox2.Text)), "Title", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))' throws an 'expected record value' error. So, I'm not sure if I can make this work at all. Thank you, thank you!

Hi Shane, is it possible to have search work on a whole Sharepoint list even if my gallery has the GroupBy function. For example, I want to search for every item in Sharepoint and this is the formula I have at the moment- Search(Filter('Knowledge Hub Content', 'Topic name'=TemplateGalleryList2.Selected.Topicname),TextInput1.Text,"Title","linktitle0","Topicname") However the only results showing from the search are only for Topicname not Title or linktitle0.
