I also thought this LCD would be much harder to fix. I have a very favourite rare Sony VAIO that has recently decayed just like this. Thanks for this very encouraging video!
@JanusCycle , apply it wet [little soapy water], no bubbles, and you can move it around on the thin film of water. JUST be very very careful since it's a screen in this case, but keep tabs on where the water goes, mop up where you can where it's down well, and slowly keep doing that till done. I know this by pure coincidence, because because I have a stupid skin, and I've had a few [rental houses] that had to be filtered [with in my case UV filters], and they do this. I asked and this goes for all vinyl/plastic stickers, filters, etc. You can push out all the liquid with a little squeegee kind of thing, or just a credit card, just make sure you push it toward the side and put down paper towel so no liquid can actually get into the screen itself [RIP screen].
Put on vinyl [and plastic] stickers on WET [bit of water, little bitter of soap]! You do have to be very careful with LCD's, but it'll make your life so much easier.
When it comes to polarizers on LCD's, I think you should just accept that whatever works just works and not dwell on it. I'm surprised that you didn't get more plastic bits. I might dare to open up my own two PowerBooks after watching this.
Done this before for smaller bad LCD's, i roll the layer on, so i feed the sheet in at a 90 degree angle, let it bend in an arc, and then let it stick to the glass layer. i also do it slowly, and yes several tries will be needed unless your amazingly good at it. i think the stick layer on the sheets i bought were silicone, so its not super sticky, just enough.

In the UK this phenomenon I never see happen, all laptop's and monitors I've seen are basically perfect.... however I hear it's contagious... anything that comes in from overseas will be quarantined
Thank you for shareing,posting&filming , I almost trew the screen in the bin,(then realised it's to small to find a similar panel to fit) I never knew it had a polarizing foil on top of the screen. It happend on my PowerBook 1400CS , now I have some hope to fix the screen (It just sat in a closet for ages , and vinegar smell was present and lines betwen the external foil and internal screen, but screen still shows picture- was not cracked when I initialy stored it away).Is this issue on these older japanes screens endemic? is because of temperature diffrences?(my PB was stored in a closed balconey in my apartment).
Nobody knows why it happens or what causes it. But there is evidence to suggest an affected laptop will trigger surrounding laptops as well, so they should be stored separately. It is quite a widespread issue, but thankfully can be repaired with some time and patience. Be careful with the old brittle plastics on your 1400CS when you take it apart. 👍
Awesome work! Was pretty amazed that turned on at all. It's always nice to see that the polarizers can actually be *repaired*, in addition to replaced altogether. I'd argue that even having the glue spots / bubbles would still be better than the original vinegar syndrome. Did you also replace the gooey front feet on the bottom? Also appreciated the dance break LOL
Thanks! I just couldn’t live with the spots and bubbles 😅 I ended up replacing the whole bottom case off the 520 and the feet were fine on that. When the rhythm takes control, there’s no fighting it.
@@TheBasementChannel Oh, makes sense. glad the other feet were fine. Weird how some seem to be totally fine these days while others have completely broken down to sticky goo - I have a 165c that's totally fine but my Lombard G3's feet were gooey upon acquisition and needed replacing. Maybe something related to humidity or storage conditions! Cheers.
