Sarah Brightman used to be a dancer. She married Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote 'Phantom of the Opera' and was the first 'Christine' in this show alongside Michael Crawford who was a great 'Phantom'. This video with Antonio Babderas was for a tribute on the 50th birthday of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
You're right, Antonio did it superbly. And not only sang, but also played. I remember back when I was a child and my mum was obsessed with this opera. Of course I was too young to appreciate it. But listening to it 30 odd years later I have a great appreciation for it. By far my favourite is Michael Crawford's part in it. That lady here has a very unique tone.
This is not an opera at all. It is a musical. It is a Broadway or West End show like any other. Sarah Brightman is not an opera singer, although she can hit notes. Many female singers can. She has never performed in an opera. Just to be clear. 😊
