Aaron Dessner (pianist) is friends with Bon Iver. Taylor is a HUGE Bon Iver fan but was too embarrassed to ask him to be on this song. So Aaron asked him and he didn’t even hesitate. He came up with the bridge. Taylor thought she was in an alternate reality where Bon Iver is singing with her. She didn’t want to get too excited about it until it was totally finished. It’s a FANTASTIC pairing of their harmonies. I could listen to this song all day, too.

When Taylor writes a song fitting for a duet, she has a real talent for choosing the right artist.

They filmed this during covid, which is why Bon Iver was in another location. Highly recommend My Tears Ricochet from Long Pond next. It’s about her original & long-term producer who owned her original masters. They were incredibly close when she was a teenager and getting started. He knew she wanted to buy them when the opportunity came up. But to get more money, he sold them to someone he knew she detested (a real industry scum bag named Scooter Braun). Never offered her the chance. And it gutted her that this man she knew so long, someone she considered family, would do that to her. This is why she is re-recording all her old albums and re-releasing them. Basically taking control of her music and the masters. And in the process, greatly reducing the value of her original masters now owned by Scooter. Most people who are aware of this, will ONLY listen to the Taylor’s Version of albums once she re-releases. She has 2 left to do, but it’s a powerful story.

Joe Alwyn wrote the first verse, and was playing piano, singing it. She asked if they could flesh the song out. She then spoke with Jack Antonoff about it being a duet. He suggested Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, which is who she wanted to sing it with but was too nervous to ask him. They sent the song to Justin, he wrote the bridge, recorded it and sent it back. All that ended up in a song that was then nominated for a Grammy. I really hope they sing together again in the future as their voices are incredible together.

Just a hint: When you watch the My Tear Ricochet video, please watch to the very end of the video. Sometimes people stop the song with a couple seconds left and they don't hear the sigh at the end. That sigh has become a bit legendary and lots of swifties will have to post little sad faces if you miss it. 😉

Wow!!! Such a good reaction. A lot of new fans came on board with her folklore and evermore albums. You may want to check out the song evermore from the evermore album. It also features Bon Iver (Justin Vernon). On a personal level, I was having a dark time last year, suffering from depression, feeling hopeless and listening to evermore changed something in my brain- even though I'd heard it many times since 2020. I can't explain what happened, but i just didn't feel alone anymore. I felt seen. It's a testament to the power of music, and specifically the power of Taylor's writing. If you continue your Taylor journey, you're going to hear lots of stories from Swifties that are similar to mine. I'm a near 50 year old Gen Xer and I can't compare her connection to her fan base with anyone else. Very excited for you to discover the versatility and creativity of Taylor's full catalog. You can look at how her album tracks have exceptionally detailed and considered production, how her live performances can completely transition a song and even it's genre, and can vary from stripped back like this, to full on arena choreographed showpieces, and how her videos are exceptional storytelling and movie quality. So much to examine to understand why she has earned her popularity.

One of my faves! Justin Vernon's voice is incredible! Love the Long Pond sessions. I highly suggest "Epiphany" written during the pandemic for heros in war and medical field. gets me crying every time. I am new here. I need to see if you have already done it.

Her range of music is imcomparable! So many diffferent styles and genres. She has an incredible gift of writing songs that in mere words paint pictures for her listeners. She is also an absolute bad ass for overcoming all the hate she got with the kanye dramas and then not to mention having her label sell off her masters. But she is such a boss for taking matters into her own hands and rerecording her masters. What an absolute legend. This is one of my favorite song of all times from her.. if you love this kind of style the album folklore and evermore are your album.. Midnight is also great a more mature record.. Once you start you can’t stop. She’s very versatile, and has an album for whatever mood you want.

This was filmed during Covid hence the masks. Her boyfriend at the time helped write this as they like writing sad songs. In all honesty, I think whether she is doing it consciously or not, she is speaking of her relationship with Joe. They were together for 6 year until early last year. I'm sure they were heartbroken, but the relationship was not going to stand the test of forever.
