In this tournament they have a "confession booth", where the players can go into a soundproof booth and talk to the camera for TV-viewers. At around move 30 Carlsen went into the booth and proclamed victory describing a plan to get a pawn to G5 and there was nothing Aryan could do. The rest of the game we could enjoy the plan coming through, very nice of him explaining it up front.
Jerry with another of his typically lucid, and oh so instructive breakdowns of the deeper ideas behind positions. Does anyone do this better? I think not. Just 1st class all the way!
If I was a millionaire, I'd ask Jerry if I could pay him to quit his day job so that he could upload everyday. He just makes chess seems so logical and enjoyable.
I really liked how u brought up the ideal situation of getting a knight to D5 and trying to accomplish this by removing other minor pieces to get to that square. This is something I'm going to look for in my own games. Thank you very much!
I really do appreciate every video youve put out, past or present. Youre helping me through some really tough times amd im sure im not the only one in that position. We love you Jerry : )
Hello Jerry. Again, great review. I don't know if you're back for good on this kind of format or if you are just taking over Agadmator for this tournament for the time he's momentarily unavailable, but It's really good to hear your voice on matches analysis again. Keep up the good work !
I really like how you showed the board this video when you covered the tale of the tape. It helped me since I am not yet so good at visualizing the board. Thanks for another great analysis, Jerry!
Thank you so much, Jerry. As usual, brilliant vocabulary selection, extremely interesting lesson. You can show the games and ideas in such a manner that it makes me shiver. I do even literally cry out of amazement, but I wouldn't be surprised if you refused to believe in that.
My favorite move from the middle was 25. Qd1 - as Finegold would say, that’s a Grandmaster move. It was glossed over here but if I had two major pieces on the open A file I’m looking for ways to press forward on the queenside. Magnus gives up queenside presence, by demoting his queen back to d1 temporarily, because it’s going to be more effective on f3. Those are the “nothing” moves that are so hard to find for us non-masters.
The knight on d5 is one of the best examples for a "strong knight vs. bad bishop" I've ever seen. Not only is that guy roughly 900x as valuable as blacks dark square bishop, it also cannot be removed. As he is shielded by black pawns, black can't even go and try to give up the exchange because the rook has no way to even attack the knight. Really impressive game.
Jerry, You are the only one who explains the thought process of the great players playing the game. It's like understanding relativity by sitting next to Einstein while he was discovering it. Love your videos.
Small typo in the description: "The critical moments mostly occurred before move 20, and [it] was during..." Brilliant description and commentary as always, Jerry!
I'm subscribed and have bell icon on but for some reason didn't get notification for any of your last 3 videos. I also noticed view count is lower than usual despite videos being excelent. Something is off with youtube algoritm
Thank you for the feedback. There are 3 notification options with the bell: 1. All 2. Personalized 3. None When one subscribes, it defaults to 'Personalized'. 'All' should be selected to receive a notification/email for every upload.
Thanks for a fine analysis of the positional subtleties in this game. How plans are realised is crucial to their effectiveness. This game shows Magnus’ cool side very well. He seems unflappable at the moment.
Thank for sharing your energy. I took a thing and plenty away. Especially the part where you showed, who is in whose territory and where the pieces intersect. I also like the reminders of what happens when you move the pawns you get this...but you give away this and....I love you calm voice and you dry humour and.....
I'd really enjoy a video of masters vs people ranked under 1600. I am learning strategy and don't understand how I blunder so early. Some examples could be eye opening. Love the channel
Anyone that might be interested, John Bathalamew has a couple videos playing against lower rater people and calling out blunders. But this channel is still way better. Love ya Jerry
I was watching the Livestream with Judit and Big Vlad and when Aryan made 14. .. b4 they both just shook their heads and started explaining why they hated the move. The Engine barely budged.
The engine evaluates moves based on perfect play. A player may make a move which not bad given perfect play, but is a bad choice for mere mortals who are unlikely to find the perfect line (especially against a top player and under time pressure).
Hi Jerry. Thanks for another great video. At move 23, u didn't consider black playing d5. U considered between black keeping his bishop on g5 or bringing it to e7. I thought d5 opens up interesting lines. Can u analyse that if u feel it's worthwhile. Thanks a lot.
Jerry is your channel under strike against youtube?? Wait so was this against the.chessnetworks? Or this sorrowtv channel? Love chessnetworks. Been subbed for awhile. Not bashing any channel. Just lost and want to find the way
