I love these scales from AWT for the Para 3 LW. I have them installed on a couple of different LW's and they work awesome. Both of the ones that I have them installed on are using 2 washers. I am thinking your issue might be with the lock bar not being seated all the way down which would cause the scale to have added pressure in the pivot area. Like I said I have these scales installed on two different Para 3 LW's and both are perfectly centered and both are drop shut with zero blade play. You really need to press the lock bar into the scale as it's a very tight fit.
Man, I actually was thinking the same thing when I was trying to figure out the issue. Good lookin out, I’ll have to revisit with both washers after press-fitting the compression liner further into the scale. 🙏🏼 👊🏼
When using the AWT Para 3 LW scales, the black metal piece that was used to fit over the blade pivot and blade stop pin, is not used. That’s why you get the extra washer. One washer under the pivot barrel on the clip side and one washer on top of the blade pivot under the show side.
@@MailmanDownEDC Ah, ok, so it’s basically one washer on each side of the pivot barrel like any other folder in washers. TwistedFootEDC commented that perhaps I needed to press fit the compression liner in further.
Yep. That’s how I have my Para 3 LW with AWT scales. As a matter of fact, I’m going to video the disassembly and reassembly of my Para 3 LW with the AWT scales and upload it in my RU-vid Channel MailmanDownEDC. Oh yea, I Subbed to your channel. Standby…
The AWT Scales look nice. And I was wondering how do you like them color and all? I have been thinking about buying the AWT Scales. But I really like the weight and how the action is just so fidgety. And I don’t know how much weight I’m going to be adding to it.
@@boristheblade12 The color is a bit darker than the stock OD green FRN, but I think it still goes nicely with the overall look. I ended up removing the clip-side washer to get the drop shut action back into this knife. Weight wise, I recall the difference being less than an ounce heavier with the AWT scales. Still feels extremely light imo and overall sturdier.
@@tariqkamil7853 I need to revisit everything including the compression liner that may need to be press fitted into the scale more. Good call though, 🙏🏼 👊🏼
Mm good got my awt scales on the way for my maxamet para 3 can't wait but my new hardware is coming from aliexpress so who knows when that will be here
Very nice! What finish did you go with? BTW, in case you don’t already know, don’t use the extra washer it comes with. I’m dropping a Short in a couple days showing the drop shut action AFTER I removed that washer in the clip side. What color hardware did you choose as well?
If you used one washer on each side, you’re all set. I didn’t see any extra washers? The description on the compression lock spyderco yojumbo I had only said to use the one side. The other side was deleted. One washer each side are used, figured the would be the correct set up, like my yojumbo.
Those AWT scales look good on that para3, they always do a good jod with there scales. Never had a lw para 3 but herd they are a pain to get dialed in. Also i use knipex 5" length smooth jaw pliers for holding spinning pins on knives, they are expensive but some of the best and useful for alot of jobs. I even think lynch nw sells them on there site, but can get them from Amazon as well.
@@chriswebb3018 oooo, good looking out on those pliers, I’ll have to check those out. The drill chuck has been my default 😂. Dialing in the Para 3 LW was PITA, but once I took out the extra washer from the clip side, completely drop shut
I haven’t used knipex on a knife but l love their pliers. They grip very well and do it with light pressure unlike a lot of others that require a ton of hand force and still slip.
@@whatfreedom7 Yes, I played around with it and was able to balance the action out with solid lockup. Key is to ensure the body screws aren’t over tightened. It’s still not drop shut with the extra washer, but MUCH better than how it was portrayed in this video
