Living that dad life and enjoying every moment of it. I started becoming truly interested in knives in 2015 and have finally convinced myself to share my passion through my collection while hoping to provide some useful knowledge I’ve picked up along the way. You'll find mostly modern folding pocket knives featured on this channel, but the occasional fixed blade or automatic will make an appearance. As the channel expands, so will the EDC gear being reviewed - flashlights, pens, wallets, etc. Looking forward to meeting new folks along the way!
@@tariqkamil7853 I need to revisit everything including the compression liner that may need to be press fitted into the scale more. Good call though, 🙏🏼 👊🏼
When using the AWT Para 3 LW scales, the black metal piece that was used to fit over the blade pivot and blade stop pin, is not used. That’s why you get the extra washer. One washer under the pivot barrel on the clip side and one washer on top of the blade pivot under the show side.
@@MailmanDownEDC Ah, ok, so it’s basically one washer on each side of the pivot barrel like any other folder in washers. TwistedFootEDC commented that perhaps I needed to press fit the compression liner in further.
Yep. That’s how I have my Para 3 LW with AWT scales. As a matter of fact, I’m going to video the disassembly and reassembly of my Para 3 LW with the AWT scales and upload it in my RU-vid Channel MailmanDownEDC. Oh yea, I Subbed to your channel. Standby…
The shaman has been my favorite knife for years. I got mine when they were $180. Just bit the bullet and ordered a bodacious. Looking forward to trying it out
@@justinisbell854 my man! Shaman is truly top 5 Spydies in my collection and when I got the bodacious in hand, it just felt right 😂. Price is higher than one would expect and the steel isn’t fancy, but I think it’s the next model that will produce sprints and exclusives.
@@TriedandTrueEDC oh yeah. I don’t buy many knives anymore so the price is ok ish with me. Even with it being over priced in my opinion. Looking forward to alternating between the two when I don’t need a smaller knife.
I love these scales from AWT for the Para 3 LW. I have them installed on a couple of different LW's and they work awesome. Both of the ones that I have them installed on are using 2 washers. I am thinking your issue might be with the lock bar not being seated all the way down which would cause the scale to have added pressure in the pivot area. Like I said I have these scales installed on two different Para 3 LW's and both are perfectly centered and both are drop shut with zero blade play. You really need to press the lock bar into the scale as it's a very tight fit.
Man, I actually was thinking the same thing when I was trying to figure out the issue. Good lookin out, I’ll have to revisit with both washers after press-fitting the compression liner further into the scale. 🙏🏼 👊🏼
If you used one washer on each side, you’re all set. I didn’t see any extra washers? The description on the compression lock spyderco yojumbo I had only said to use the one side. The other side was deleted. One washer each side are used, figured the would be the correct set up, like my yojumbo.
The AWT Scales look nice. And I was wondering how do you like them color and all? I have been thinking about buying the AWT Scales. But I really like the weight and how the action is just so fidgety. And I don’t know how much weight I’m going to be adding to it.
@@boristheblade12 The color is a bit darker than the stock OD green FRN, but I think it still goes nicely with the overall look. I ended up removing the clip-side washer to get the drop shut action back into this knife. Weight wise, I recall the difference being less than an ounce heavier with the AWT scales. Still feels extremely light imo and overall sturdier.
The scales look good on your manix. Been thinking of getting a set for my rex45 lw manix, I know there good because I have them on my 15v manix. I tried a lighter spring but wasn't for me, but the ti or aluminum ball cage and ceramic ball upgrade I got from ocd4edc is a great upgrade. On one of my manix knives I cut one coils off the stock spring and it gave it a medium spring feel, right between the light spring and full tension stock feel.
Thanks brother 👊🏼! Ima need to upgrade that ball cage down the road. The lighter spring is slightly lighter than I’d prefer, think I’ll try cutting one coil on the stock spring and swapping back to it. Which finish did you get for your 15V?
@@TriedandTrueEDC have 2 15v manix 2's and one has brick red ceramic coat and one has charcoal green color ceramic coat. There all good though, but just don't care for there aluminum anodized version as the feel to slick for my preference.
This video will help somebody for sure I watched it done before I did mine @jd4edc channel good video brother your channel has came one of my go 2 and can't wait for each video/short
Man I almost got the Lander 2. I love the micarta and blade length. I’m just not a huge fan of omega springs. Wish they’d start using one spring like microtech does with the new stitch and MSI
I haven’t had any locks with omega springs fail me yet, but I feel ya, haven’t heard the most positive things about them 😂. The way the Ram Lok functions - reminds me of the ball bearing lock on the Manix 2, which I’m a fan of
@@TriedandTrueEDC right on good comparison. I love the ball bearing lock as well. Man maybe it’s just me, and I fidget with them too much. I have notice the bigger knives with cross bar locks don’t break as quick and seem stronger. Thanks for the reply man. Again, the lander 2 looks like a winner and I hope you don’t have any issues with omega springs bud. 👊
Those AWT scales look good on that para3, they always do a good jod with there scales. Never had a lw para 3 but herd they are a pain to get dialed in. Also i use knipex 5" length smooth jaw pliers for holding spinning pins on knives, they are expensive but some of the best and useful for alot of jobs. I even think lynch nw sells them on there site, but can get them from Amazon as well.
@@chriswebb3018 oooo, good looking out on those pliers, I’ll have to check those out. The drill chuck has been my default 😂. Dialing in the Para 3 LW was PITA, but once I took out the extra washer from the clip side, completely drop shut
Cant go wrong with a bugout as a all around great edc. Never handled a mini, but got the s90v bugout with rock scale design scales and backspacer. Just needs a transparent knives reblade like my 940 and it will be perfect.
@@chriswebb3018 you’ll definitely tell the difference on a mini, but yes, I really like my bugout - great slicer, lightweight, easy to carry. 👊🏼I haven’t checked out his regrinds, but have seen REK do the 940 reblades.
Glad i grabbed one a well, definitely a great knife at a great price. My only nitpick would be is i would have liked it to have thinner geometry like his folders, but all good cause i can regrind it. Also i grabbed a fold over kydex sheath from BP custom knives and like it alot for how i carry. Alot of good options out there though
@@chriswebb3018 oh hells yeah, glad you grabbed one! I’m sure it’ll still be a great slicer EDC. Good looking out on that Kydex option, thanks that’s how i usually carry my fixies.
Mm good got my awt scales on the way for my maxamet para 3 can't wait but my new hardware is coming from aliexpress so who knows when that will be here
Very nice! What finish did you go with? BTW, in case you don’t already know, don’t use the extra washer it comes with. I’m dropping a Short in a couple days showing the drop shut action AFTER I removed that washer in the clip side. What color hardware did you choose as well?
Im thinking about picking this up. Im scared it might be slippery? Do you think the coating will chip off the blade? I have the Manix 2 salt and the ergenomics are just ok.
The handle is extra grippy imo, much more comfy than the FRN/FRCP handles on LW models. As for the coating, it won’t chip off as easily as black coated blades, DLC is quite durable. You’ll get streaks from usage on breaking down boxes, but overall you’re unlikely to have the DLC coating chip from normal uses such as box opening, food prep, etc.
@@bishoplokz6637 Ah, man I’m sorry to hear. I have a lil native REC that I’ve used quite a bit and the streaks I have are from cutting cardboard. I’m usually able to lighten those streaks using rubbing alcohol. If you’re planning to put it to use, I wouldn’t worry too much because you will eventually pick up wear on PVD coated blades.
@@TriedandTrueEDClots of gas stations sell spiderco clones they dont have good steel but if you just want something that looks like that for $9 its easy lol
knife seems like a nice quality CNC. the thick edge with the smile towards the tip just kills it for me. newer ones are even worse than yours for that :/. we want even 25 degree edges wake up its not 2005 anymore.
Ah, are you referring to how much of the sharpened edge is exposed towards the tip? Yeah it would’ve been a nice touch for it to be symmetrical and even throughout the entire edge.
I bought the alpine glow version a few months ago & it turned out to be way too small for me but I kept it anyway. There is a small problem though that axis lock will get full of lint while in one's pocket I noticed this with the mini Griptilian years ago.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 Oooo, that Alpine glow sounds dope! This one ended up being for my homie’s 7 yr old son, which I’m sure he’ll grow into. I have a Bugout and 940, but I don’t think I’ve carried them enough to build up that lint 😂. I’ve heard similar findings from people on forums.
I got the Sniper Green - OD green: appliedweaponstech.com/products/spyderco-para-3-lightweight-scales-cerakote Be warned though, mine is still not drop shut 😂. Maybe I need to just keep working it in or redo with more lube…🤷♂️
Maybe get some extra bronze washers and shave them down with some oil and a stone then a ceramic stone? Idk if it would work but it’s cheap and maybe thin them out just enough to loosen it up a little.
@@whatfreedom7 They provided an extra washer for the clip side scale (if you’re RH carry) and I ordered a set just in case (not knowing the extra one would be included lol). That’s a good call though since I have extras - I’ll probably try sanding them down a bit and seeing how it holds up. Good lookin’ on the suggestion! 👊🏼
I'm starting to become skeptical that anybody can notice any difference between simple carbon steels and these " super" steels. I lve been doing some testing lately and I cant
My sentiments are quite similar - feels like you would need very specific tests to truly determine the advantages on most of these steels. Which tests have you done?
@TriedandTrueEDC I took an 80crv2 blade and ground it to .008 behind the edge and performed a rope cut test but the rope was dirty, like it would be in real life, and tested it against a deep cuts cutlery in 4v that's also .008 behind the edge. I cut paper every so often and I couldn't tell any noticeable diff. Also I have two bradford guardians, one in aebl and one in m390 and cut carpet pad and rope. Again, couldn't tell any difference
@@TheRealDoctorBreezy bruh, that’s a tough one lol. The Stitch takes up more real estate in the pocket, but is a better looking design imo. The MSI has a more utilitarian blade shape. Though I think the CF Signature Series Stitch is right up your alley! Keep missing it by the time I get noticed from NC Blade 😑
20 views and no likes ? Y’all buggin’ I gotchu bro 👊🏼 the mini bugout is just a tad small for my meaty paws but I love the scales…definitely good for spotting it out in the bush lol
