austin perkins was at my first local meet. cant imagine the look on the other guys faces that cut weight to be in the open 75kgs 😂.

This was an awesome video. Great information, specially for attempt selection. The first time I competed I had no plan, and my 3rds for each lift were way too heavy. I like the idea of working backwards.

I am prepping for my first comp. I am am 40 yo mom who has been training at the YMCA for 3 years now. I am worried I am going to be laughed out of the place, especially considering how weak I am on the bench. What is the culture like at local meets? Is it pretty elitist? Or is it welcoming to newbs? Especially newbs who don’t fit the stereotype?

I’ve never had anyone express anything other than positive experiences at their first meets. Everyone has fears like you do and then they always walk away feeling like they can’t wait to do more. If you are prepared for the logistics this video covers, that will help a lot but people are almost always nice and helpful.

Powerlifting meets are usually the most chill environments. I’ve done a few now and I’ve seen nothing but strangers supporting each other and cheering for each other. Maybe it’s different at higher level meets but local meets are fun. Good luck!!

The beauty of our sport is anyone can improve. Thats all that its about. If your pr is 60 lbs or 600 we will chear for you.

Loving the videos! What are your thoughts on SBD days and how should I program them if they are worth doing? Should I put the top sets and backdowns as if I were doing them on a separate day? And should I have that SBD as the heaviest/primary day for every compound? Trying it out right now and the workout gets incredibly long and tiring. Thanks!

This isn't really a question that has a clean answer. Do them if they are helping you get stronger. But the issues you mentioned are very common and probably not helpful for training. I don't program them in the way you described for anyone. That's not me saying they are bad, but more so just that it doesn't tend to be the most practical. If you are asking if it's necessary to have these days in order to be prepared for a meet, no, I don't think so.

“You should be taking your last warmup equal to your first attempt” does this mean I should hit my opener during my warmup? Or is that a waste to do it an additional time because the opener should be something I can confidently hit? Preparing for a first meet, appreciate the content!

No that part is talking about timing. Not load. You should not take your opener in the warm up room.
