i grew up running that same unit ... great working machine ..brings back alot of memories . very easy unit to flip over ,not very wide and high off the ground .. go with caution...
That’s a very nice old machine! Looks like it was reasonably well cared for. Not all kinds of bubba welds and paint jobs on it. Nice straight and dry rig!
those are the best, simplest, user friendly light skidder for a property as well as small enough to not knock the whole bush down, my father has a 666 Clark with a Cummins and it's so simple to run as a child I hauled logs out for him on my spare time
I had two of those 664s with the screaming Detroit's nice old machines but when I picked up a 666 that's twice the machine 453 turbo charged still the 664s made me a living
About the serial number 514 denotes it being a 664 h denotes the series the number denotes the number of 664 made and CAC is the plant at which it was manufactured namely St Thomas Ont. which was where all Clark skidders were designed and manufactured
the only changes he made was the blade cut off and rebuilt to have an arc so he could pick up logs while stacking log piles and widened the blade so he could build log roads in one pass the tires were wider than the blade before
What’s it have on it for a gas cap? We bought area without one and I’m trying to find a replacement one but can’t seem to find one anywhere maybe someone could help
Awesome little skidder, it is surprising the loads these little girls can pull, has this model got the disc brake mounted on the on the rear drive shaft or has it got the wet brake system?
What happened to that Case 450 track loader with winch? I figured it would have been more versatile...I happen to have one. Skidder is sweet though, especially with that Detroit 2-stroker.
Dan Ryan track loader and dozer undercarriages aren't built for the constant stress of skidding. They'll do it, but when you're skidding to a yard and back into the woods, over a mile each way, multiple times it'll put serious stress on the equipment whereas a skidder is built for exactly that
I hear you...I really like the versatility of having a bucket instead of a blade. The tracks don't rut as much as tires and I can load gravel to fill big boulder and stump holes. I use a winch attachment on my tractor when I'm skidding. He looks like he's got more soil and fewer rocks than I do here on the Bruce Peninsula. Each to their own! Nice rig though...
Dan Ryan if you keep close tabs on your machine id say it'll hold up. Guy I'm going to work for skids a lot with a case 850k dozer but it has an actual log winch. The rest of the skidding on the sight is with an old cat 518 cable skidder. I love that old beast to death
Right on Nelson! My crawler loader cost me $3500 and I spent another $1500 rebuilding the undercarriage. It is only for personal use on my 100 acres of bush...and I don't skid with it. If I could have one of everything, I would get myself a skidder too! Gotta win the Lotto first! Have fun working that cat!
You can the rear just pay attention and don't spin those tires underload or pull hard on corners as the stress on the planateries increase significantly
About your chain steps, use some old cable for two drops off the step (instead of the chain) and weld a solid step to the bottom of them. Much more stable and easy to get in and out, plus still flexible enough to not get hung up or torn off.
if you need help with repairs or welding my father lives just hours from you and has restored two that he owned a 664 and the 666 he owns still to today
That's not loud. You need the hollow box on top of the cab with the 2 outlets if you want LOUD! But that's a good rig. Just keep it wound to get the good out of it!
